Are goals required for a successful life?

Do you believe in the statement " That you need to know where you are going, to know when you are there", and that you need to have goals to be successful ? Is not having a goal is more fearful than reaching the goal ? OR Do you believe that there's only "now", and when this moment passes,it will be replaced by another one

We most definitely need goals; no matter how big or small. How can we possibly achieve a sense of accomplishment or grow as a person if we do not set ourselves standards or goals to aspire to? A lack of goals ultimately means a lack of potential achievement as far as I am concerned! And yes, there is only one "now" at a time..... It is how we deal with each "now" that determines whether the "now" will grow into something resembling what it once wasas better or worse, or whetehr it will disappear forever! Either way, the control of the outcome is our responsibility and ours alone.

Thanks James, What you say makes a lot of sense. A sense of accomplishment does come only when we set out to to reach a goal.

Hi Alok, We all must have goals in our lives. Without it we are but lower species living yet another life on earth, don’t you think so? Humans have a purpose of living and whoever it may be or whatever little he may do - we all set targets in our own terms. Otherwise, it’s evident that we would lose interest in living. And it gets even more important if you want to be a Name in the society, be successful in life. This is a definitive purpose that leads us to our dreams. Living for the now is beautiful! It gives us a pleasure but I am afraid it’s but momentary and we soon get frustrated with it. A fear of facing the unknown grasps us soon. We lose trust in ourselves. ‘Living for now” soon becomes dreadful! The planning for future gives us strength to brave the odds I guess. It makes future secure, safe and peaceful. Having said this, I do not think that we should go overboard with setting goals, reaching targets, meeting deadlines. Today we have all the knowledge on earth but little wisdom, all information but little processing, all ambition but little conscience and all success - little enjoying it!! This shouldn’t be it anyway. Thanks.

Wonderful response Mimpi, I totally agree with what you have to say, especially the part on going overboard with setting goals. We tend to spend our lives in "striving" so much so that the joy or meaning of "arriving" or reaching our goals looses its value. I guess Living for now gets to be beautiful, once we reach those goals and I suppose once we reach a certain age. Thanks a ton.

We must concentrate on the things that we can achieve. Motivitation helps too, does it not ? It keeps us focussed on the goals. You'll be successful in all that you have set out to achieve , I'm sure. Smiling

Alok Thanks for the appreciation - it motivates me like anything. And yes enjoying the success that we make out of goals is very important. And also, I feel, we should know our limitations. Dreams are good but they lose their purpose when they are too high or too out of the way, may be unachievable. Like should I ever dream or set a goal to become the president of our country! Or should I ever aim at being the richest person on earth! I guess No. I should rather concentrate on something that I know I can achieve....and no points for guessing that! *grin*

I think life is a journey and on a journey you need a roadmap...and part of the map is the destination....the biggest part. The highways are different routes you must take...and the bumps in the road are the challenges....of course life is more enriched when yoi have a goal...

To be able to have a best life you should set a goal because that goal you have will pushed you to achieve them. When you have a goal you will strive hard to reach them, without a goal you will not be successful because it is your goal who will bring you to the right path.

Hi, i believe that to have a successful life what you need is to work hard, but if you dont have any goals to work hard for, then why would you do it? we all have something we want or need, i think everyone has goals, even if they realize it or not

in my case i think so. there are very few people so lucky that they achieved success without any goal. without any goal how can we progress? or can we do it aimlessly? i guess no.

Goals are very important. For me, they help shape your dreams. They are the backbone of success. You need to plot your goals first and reach for them one-by-one. Goals are our guides and outlines, organizing all the things that we are doing and achieving.

I would suggest , to do what ever your doing , with zeal , honesty, be faithful in your work. If you do this , you will achieve goals , either you set it or not.. But , if you only look at your goals , are worried , just to achieve them...you should be careful , not to miss the basics...I mean, be honest and faithful.. How many of MYLOT members agree with me ?

Hi,alokn99.In my opinion, goals are important in our lives. We can have a better plan for our future by setting goals. When we try to reach our goals,we have to work hard and constantly improve ourselves, thus making us better.Without goals our life will be aimless. But reaching the goals is not just only thing, what is more important is we learn something when we are trying to reach the goals. So we should have goals in life, and keep working to reach it.

I always look at things as "in the now" because you never know how long anyone is going to have and I dont want to be the person that wished they did something but the time passed by too soon

i believe both. i know that sounds unreal. i think that for most of your life....no matter what decision or goal you have, you will end up where destiny takes you anyway. there are also small goals that determine your path to whatever destiny has in store for you. i believe what makes you successful in life, is your own outlook.

No, it may not sound that unreal. There are a lot of people who believe strongly in destiny and though unconciously or conciously are setting out their goals, tend to live in the concept of now. Thanks

I think goals are somewhat necessary to have a sucessful life. yOu have to want something in life and go after it. You may find out when you get there it's not what you want but you have to have something to try for at least. I thnik it helps you to get focused on doing something.

First of all congrats for raising such a heart toughing discussion... Well I think yes it is must to have goals in life ....else you would never know which direcion or for what are you working . For example if you are going to market you know what you are going to buy there .If you go to market without knowing what you want to buy ...you still probably would buy somehing but that will waste lot of your time ....because you would be doing in market goal setting I mean what you want to buy. Similarly in life we must have goal....to achieve .....achieve else lot of our life would go as waste roaming here and there . Yes your second question having goal is really fearful at times because it require us to be tied with them and executing them with investing our efforts .... Once we set some goal we become attached to it ....we have fear of loosing it .....we have fear of not getting it right times ....and so on . But out of these fears we cant live our life without goals..... SO I end yes goals are must and if you still dont have one out of fear ...try to set at right times before time/life bids you goodbye Thanku Ganesh

Where are you going? That is the big question. And your answer is "I'm going up there, going through this ladder of success." "I'm going to ..." this phrase already expresses future plans. Plans have goals, direction and a map of desired results. I do believe that goals are required as a guide to have a meaningful and fruitful life. Success doesn't mean you're always a winner. I believe that nothing happens by accidents. So whatever we are doing now are already planned. Our goals are just guide for our journey in life. We re given the chance to decide so we need to weight the circumstances by planning and making goals in all our activities. Happy posting ... take care

I think it goes more like this, first you need to know what you want to have, then you do what you have to do for it. I believe in setting goals, using statistics and all that, it is just a way to make sure you are not forgetting any detail. I think that what you do in present is what you will get in the future, that is for sure!

Well I wouldn't consider them to be required I think it's more of a choice really, Even though I think having goals in life can lead you to success and a successful life as well. I think it's good to have goals in your life without goals people will really have no purpose. Nothing to achieve and they will feel empty and useless. So I don't think Goals are required for a successful Life but I would think more likely needed and wanted and better for a Successful life. Everyone has a goal some hard some simple Goals but it makes a person wake up and realize they have something to achieve something to do and it makes them go on with there day and life. I would recommend goals for everyone even if it's a goal that seems just impossible. Well yeah take care and keep posting. Happy Mylotting Payout

I believe that having goals set for your life is a good idea, so you know where you would like to go in life and what you have to reach for. I think having goals set for your life, can make life even more exciting. I think everyone has goals no matter what they say. You have a goal on whether you want to get married, have a baby and go to school and so on. But to have a successful life, nah, but I believe everyone has goals no matter how they put it.
