a friend and i were comparing our key chains today at work. hers has 50+ items on it ! a bingo troll, a lucky stuffed dove (for good luck),lots and lots of keys (some to cars no longer driven), a friendship heart, 6 mini cards to use in stores (walmart, gas), a braided leather coin purse for exactly 4 quarters for the pop machine, 5 years worth of rabies vaccine tags, a folding knife/screwdriver, and a photo of her daughter. i think she needs a purse just for her key chain ! besides being so heavy (and very loud, too), i worry it might be too heavy for her ignition. i have a large circle of brass (which hangs nicely on my door knob and i never lose it). i have 1 car key, 1 apartment key, 1 key to my mother's home, 1 key to john's summer home, 1 leather etched "fob" of a hibiscus from hawaii (from when my daugher lived there). when i asked judy why she doesn't keep all the extra stuff in her purse or glove compartment, she stated she lost things in there......wow! no kidding what a surprise ! how about you? do you carry lots of "necessary" items or just the basics?

I, like Judy, carry ALL the necessary items I have my car keys on a seperate ring which I hook to all my important mementos. That way I don't upset my friends who are just positive I'm ruining my ignition. In Judy's defense, I've been doing this for over 40 years & have NEVER had to replace an ignition. It's only been in recent years I kept my car keys detachable. Can I tell you why I do any of this??? NOOOOOO

On my key ring I have a plastic flat Elmo (as in the Elmo from Sesame Street), a key to my apartment, a reusable grocery bag that stuffs into a tiny pouch that fits on my key ring, a library card, a few store cards, and a swipe card that I use to gain access into my secure apartment building.

Hi, Mommasam! Your post made me think, so I went and got both keychains (one for work and the other for life), and I can hardly figure out how I carry that many keys! My work keys hang on a long chain around my neck, and the students are forever putting things on them, just for giggles. Right now there's a tiny gold football to remind me to go to the games, and a little silver crown, because I teach high school seniors and, as they never stop reminding the world, "Seniors Rule!" There are also keys for my wing, my classroom, my mailbox, the book-room, and each of the many cabinets in the room. My "real-life" keychain has car keys, house keys, the key to the back gate, a key to my friend's house in case there's a problem, a key to the locks on the hurricane shutters, and one key that I can't figure out what it's for, so it stays in case it's something important that I've forgotten! Oh, I forgot about the key to the gate of the pol fence and the mailbox key. Now I feel like a jailor! Woudn't it be nice if the worrld were such a nice place that we didn't need to lock everything up!?

it appears you HAVE to carry a lot of keys for work. i think it's cute that the kids are putting things on your long chain and it will surely remind you of them when they graduate ! yes, it would be nice if you could install (cheaply) a keypad and only key in the code !

Unfortunately, in classrooms, we are required to allow free access to all, so keypads wouldn't e allowed. I don't see how that jibes with all those keys! They also read everything in our computers and listen in on our lectures. Thet's not great, and it makes me angry, but I have nothing to hide, and I have to accept it.

I have a ridiculous amount of keys on my keys ring. I have 2 separate key rings that I only connect when I need to(IE at work, I only carry my work keys around, and leave my home/car set in my desk and at home and on vacation, I leave my work keys on the key holder). On the work set I have a key to every door in the store(I work at Macy's so that alone is a reasonable amount of keys). I also have a key to my safe in my office, and to the safe in the basement. Just those 2 things alone weight probably 5 pounds to carry around. On my home set, I have a Soul Caliber key ring that we just got(to make my boyfriend happy and so I don't lose it), and a bottle opener key ring. Other than that, we have our apartment key, keys to both of our parents houses, our storage unit, and our mailbox key. I don't keep a ton of cute little key chains on there just because I have so many keys on there at the moment. Once we move into the house we are building, the keys will go down dramatically since I won't need 5 keys to go get something for the apartment and bring it back.

Hi there, I have three car keys and three house keys. They are quite important to me. I know I definitely would encounter lots of inconvenient and trouble as well if I loss any of them. To avoid losing any of them I use a key chain to hold all of them in one. I prefer key chain which is light and handy. I pick a simple key chain which is a simple stainless well designed big ring which could hold my keys firmly. I have been using it for more than ten years. Whenever going out I just tuck it in my front jeans’ pocket. posting and have a nice day.

I have 2 sets hooked together by a latch. The set for my house has a lot of keys and a mini-leash from the company that makes dog toys and stuff(it came from my vets office). My car keys have a blue metal Kokopelli keychain/bottle opener, a keychain that has events pertinent to my birthday on one side and things about my birth sign on the other, and a neat chain with charms that came off my daughters jeans(better on my keys than lost in the toybox). My keys don't easily get lost.

Hi I carry far too much, and even so, not nearly as much as your friend. I do however, get comments that I am wrecking my ignition! I have, from memory, 1 car key, 3 house keys, a window key, and a few old keys that I can't remember their use .. and about 3 keyrings - all interlinked as well as a few shop cards (Tesco, etc). I won't get my key ring, I will try to go by memory, there have been lots of things that has fallen off of it. But, I have two keys to my house, a key to my son's house, two keys for the car, a bottle opener, an aspirin vial, I had one of those little things with the nail file, and a little knife, but when I went to jury duty, they spotted it through the x ray machine and took it from me. I used to be like your friend, I had so many things on my key ring it was ridiculous.

i'm curious. did it urge you to clean out the things you don't need or put it off for a while ? some people never pick up their car keys until they are leaving and that's not the time to clean it out .

I did have a lot on my key chain, I took my car to be serviced and the serviceman told me that a lot of keys are heavy and they will eventually damage your cars ignition. Having said that my ignition was making a noise when I started it. And that was the cause. I now have my house key my ignition key and a hook on that key chain. My other key ring I have keys I don't know what some of them go to. I have my uncles house key, my daughter's house key. a finger nail clipper, a kroger and CVS savings and reward card. Keys, keys keys, old keys, locker keys.

i've heard very reasonable stories for both sides: it does and it doesn't damage your car ignition. i don't know if that's only for certain makes and models of cards. maybe they have a maximum weight which some key chains go over ?

Besides my keys I have a chain that has the letters AVON hanging from it (Avon Lady here), I have a cross with the serenity prayer inscribed on it. I used to have a little croc but it fell off. I figure the bigger my keychain the less of a chance it will get lost!

Wow it sounds like she has a little bit of a pack rat problem. I keep my key chain pretty simple. It has a clip thing on it so i can hook it to my purse or diaper bag or belt loop depending where i need it. I have a key to my van, my front door and back door on my house and one to my parents house. There is a small key for our little fire safe. Then I have two heart key chains that you can put pictures in with pictures of my kids in them.

What's on my key chain? A key to our house, a key to our room, a key to my filing cabinet (important documents), a key to a cabinet (storage for valuables), and a key to my office drawer. I also have a swiss knife and a mini decorative stuffed animal (a panda). I think I carry only the basics in my key chain, except for the stuffed panda of course.

My key chain is a simple looking one not wit any fashionable designs and stuff. But its a very nice one. It can be clipped to the pocket, its like a hook kinda key chain. And yes it has some keys attached to it. Thts but obvious Hehehe... My old key chain looked fancy. It was in the shape of an elephant with some coloured water inside it and small tiny beads and rings floating in the water. Looked pretty cool. But it fell down hard one day and broke.
