My hubby made muffins yesterday. He mixed in applesauce. They came out so moist and wonderful. I was really surprised. And they stayed moist. They got eaten more quickly than any I ever made. What recipes can you substitute apple sauce with?

You can substitute applesauce for the oil in most recipes when baking. Try this cookie recipe. It calls for no sugar either. I know you don't like to give your daughter lots of sugary snacks. OATMEAL & APPLESAUCE COOKIES - SUGARLESS 1/2 c. flour 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. soda 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. cloves 1 tsp. allspice 1/2 c. quick oatmeal 1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce 1/4 c. cooking oil 1 med. egg 1 tsp. vanilla Mix flour, cinnamon, soda, salt, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, oatmeal and raisins. Add applesauce, oil, egg, vanilla and mix just to moisten. Drop on greased sheets. Bake at 375 degrees for about 12 minutes. Best served slightly warm.

I've never used applesauce in an actual recipe. But, often I've added applesauce to plain oatmeal as a natural sweetener instead of sugar. The unsweetened variety is especially good for using with oatmeal. A dash of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg along with some milk makes it a complete meal. I love to add slices of banana to the warm oatmeal-applesauce mix. It's divine!

Hi, ersmommy1. I have never baked with applesauce before. I think that baking applesauce in a pie or a cake would taste very yummy. Especially for an apple cake.

I heard applesauce is a way to cut back on the oil you use in cooking. With cakes, I have also heard of using pudding to make them moister. Glad you enjoyed the muffins.

Yes I have used applesauce as a ingredient when I am cooking things to make them lower fat. There are many different things that you can add applesauce to to make it healthier. In most baked goods, you can substitute applesauce (or fruit puree) in place of up to half of the oil in order to reduce the fat content. For example, if the recipe calls for 1/2 cup of oil, use 1/4 cup oil and 1/4 cup applesauce. You can use it in cakes, muffins, brownies, cupcakes, breads and more..
