How long do you sleep for each night?

August 27, 2008 5:17am CST
I am having problems sleeping and was wondering if other people have the same problem. Once I am aslepp I am fine and will sleep without waking up during the night. However I am having a problem where I always wake up at 6am. It doesn't matter what time I go to bed. During the week I go to bed at around 10pm, so its not always a problem. At the weekends though it is often after midnight or even 2am before I go to bed, but again I wake up at 6am. Does anyone else have this problem? Or can anyone suggest a way to help me slepp later? Thanks James

It seems that your body has adjusted to that timing for u to wake up ^_^ It's nothing serious, just lie down on your bed and u will doze off soon ^_^ It's like a habit to u, thus it's more or less fixed to your internal body alarm ^_^

I dunno what's up with you...I sleep for about 9 hours every night. or maybe sometimes even 10. I'm a student. I often sleep at 9:30 pm and wake up at 6:30. At weekends i definitely go to bed a little earlier, so i can sleep for up to 10 hours But i can't understand why you always wake up at 6:00am. I think it's kinda weird. You know ..ah, for example, if i stay up late,(just an example) you know, if..i go to bed at 2 am. i will wake up very late. maybe ,.. at lunch time. Lol,i am just a sleephead. And i believe that your problem is with regard to biological clock. My that is always set regularly. If i break it, the time of going to bed and the time of waking up are both different from before. I suggest you go to the doctor. Of course,i don't think it's really a big problem for anybody. Just ..you know...maybe seeing a doctor can set your heart at rest. Good luck, anyway!

yes, I too, have trouble sleeping. On an average night I get about three to four hours sleep. For me it just seems to be the way my body has trained itself. Your body seems to be in tune with your schedule throughout the week in a similar way. If you are finding yourself excessively tired because of this, you may need some sleep aids, whether they are ear plugs or over the counter sleep aids. Perhaps, you would consider addressing this with your doctor at your next appointment. I am an insominac and probably not one of the most appropriate source to take to the bank. Best of luck.

i usually sleep late at night. this past few days, since i just finished my training job, i always get late to bed. but like you i have a fixed time in waking up. i usually wake up at around 7:30 in the morning. and i believe it is called body clock. we are already used to it that is why even if we sleep late or early, we still woke up at the time our body is already used to wake up.

Yes I think also that it is due to my body clock. I just wish I could reset it!

Well, for me,I can sleep till my alarm wake me up at 7:00am and will not wake up during the night, say my average sleeping time is around 7 hours or less. For my wife, she may suffer the same problem just like you in the recent 2 weeks time, she always wakes up at 6:00am or even earlier, then can not fall asleep again.I'm worry about that and am planning take her to hospital to see if there's any way to cure that problem. During weekdays I sleep about for about 7 hours but on weekends I go on 8-10 hours. I also wake up at the same time everyday. I wake up at $am everyday. maybe I just got used so much to it because I have been doing it since I was in High School. Well at least I have the time to do exercise before I begin my day. My advice for you is to relax when you sleep so that you would always feel good as you wake up. Try to take deep breaths after you have lay down and closed your eyes. Then breath slowly and surely you'll get relaxed.

i have had problems sleeping for a while, and unfortunately it is not only a problem of getting to sleep but also of staying asleep. My doctors started me on a med called seroquel, unfortunately my body desided it wanted to be stubborn so they had to pump the dosage up to 600 mg in order for me to sleep. I sleep good on it however, it makes you extremely hungry right before you are about to sleep, so you end up getting up to eat, and it stays in your system even after you have woken up in the morning so it keeps you kind of sedated throughout the day. I have tried to get them to change it, but with seroquel, after a while your body gets dependant on it, and the other meds just don't work, to get it fully out of my system will take about a week, so i won't sleep much for that period, and i always get frusterated and so bored that i end up taking the seroquel again to sleep

The same thing happens to me, it doesn't matter how tired I was, or how late I went to sleep I always wake up around the same time. I usually wake up at 6:30 on week days and it doesn't matter how much i worked the day before or if i came how and slept at 3 or 4 in the morning I always wake up at that time. on weekend when I always go out I try to sleep more but at most I get 45 minutes more of sleep, and that is it, I just stay in bed watching tv or something because i cant go to sleep any more.

i have trouble falling asleep and then staying asleep. i also wake earlier than i would like and then cannot get back to sleep. sometimes when i wake earlier than i want i just stay snuggled up under the covers and rest. sometimes i just need to get up because laying there makes me nuts. if i wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom i usually cannot fall right back to sleep but i force myself to rest with my eyes closed and eventually i drift off. the worse thing you can do is get up and do things or watch tv in the middle of the night because your body gets used to waking up and being up in the middle of the night and it will just keep happening. sleep cycles go along with the circadian rhythm and that is why you wake the same time each day. wish i could help you to sleep later but i have no advice to give on that one.

Unfortunately I don't have a set time to go to bed. I do try to get at least 5 hours a sleep a night. Sometimes I get more depending on what time I have to wake up for work the next day. That is the other problem is that my hours at work differ every day by about 1/2 hour or so. I just find something that calms me right before I go to bed. Like I enjoy reading so I curl up with a book in my bed and start to get tired. Also, if you exercise during the day studies show that you are more likely to fall asleep earlier and get a better nights sleep. This is because you have used energy during the day for your activites. So I also go for a jog or a walk if I have the time. And any excuse to use the stairs instead of an elevator, or park a little further away so you can walk adds to this.

Once my head is on that pillow I am out; usually. However, over the past year I have been up at weird hours of the night, at least once every month. For some reason, I just can't shut my brain off and instead I end up in front of the television watching the sports channel. Once I am up it takes me hours before I feel like going back to bed. I have had a rough year, so I do know why I am up 'til the AM. However, you have to understand why it is that you are up on the weekends like that. Maybe it's because they are the only days of the week when you are free to go to bed whenever you choose.

In a way it is a good thing that your body is accustomed to a regular cycle, which is the way it should be. And also you don't have to depend on alarm clocks which is a plus. You can try to catch an extra wink or two in the afternoon but it will lead to a different kind of sleeping problem on monday. I suppose just lie in and try to just relax yourself and you will get sleep if you are the right amount of "Tired". I try to catch atleast 6 hrs in a 24 hr cycle during weekdays. But the timing of the sleep is very sporadic and is in no usual pattern.

Sleeping a big part of our life, we need to sleep atleast 6 to 8 hour a day so that our body can recharge and do all the activities for rest of the day. It is something to do with our body clock that always wakes you up even you sleep in a few hours.I myself always experience it, i usually sleep at 12 midnight and wakes up at 7.30 am, even i sleep at dawn like 4 am i still wakes up at 7.30 am, even if i sleep very early like 8pm still i wake up 7.am. It is very normal.
