granite_butterfly started a new discussion called Exercising One's Rights or Homegrown Terrorism in life.
[em]thumbdown[/em]Recently, I read an article about people protesting and a new legal right to arrest protesters and detain them in military facilities as potential terrorists. There was a disturbing picture of a young woman involved in a Pro Life protest and being arrested. In the article, there was a lengthy list of things that people could oppose and be arrested for, such as taxes. After rea...

granite_butterfly responded to a discussion called Does Anyone Actually Use MSN Anymore? in msn.
Personally, I have not used MSN for a long time and found that when I used it, I had a lot of problems with it. Like yourself, I use Facebook instead. There seems to be significant decline in MSN usage amongst my friends as well.

granite_butterfly responded to a discussion called Can we help someone who will not help themselves? in life.
I agree with you fully. People have to want the help they are being offered and be willing to help themselves as well. Even if we think we can help a person, the person themself must agree to it. As hard as it is to understand, some people don't want to be helped and this can be heartbreaking to witness. Still, it is best to help one another, when it is possible.

granite_butterfly responded to a discussion called I think facebook games are addictive! in facebook.com.
My partner is passionate about Puzzled Hearts on Facebook and plays several times a day. Sure, it is an addiction but a harmless one. I think it is the social component that makes Facebook games so addictive. Playing games on Facebook is almost like an alternate reality that people can escape to. As long as someone's real life is not deteriorating from playing these games, really, what is the h...

granite_butterfly responded to a discussion called I've Found My Own World in life.

I think that couples need to have individual hobbies to enable personal and relationship growth. The only time this would be harmful would be if the hobbies were somehow breaking down the relationship. There are many of us who feel more comfortable facing a screen than facing the life outside of it. You are not alone. I, too, feel comfortable on MyLot. Maybe your husband is feeling threatened b...

granite_butterfly responded to a discussion called Have you ever been arrested? in life.
[em]thumbdown[/em]I have been arrested on more than one occasion for non-violent offences and for mental health issues. In my country, people who are mentally ill can be arrested and taken to a hospital, for those wondering. Firstly, I would say that it is humiliating, no matter the situation. The police can be rough if they perceive you as resisting arrest. If you are apprehended for mental he...

granite_butterfly responded to a discussion called How to deal with your step mother?.
Well, I may not be of much help to you but I will share anyway. One of my parents is gay so I have two stepmothers. One I have absolutely no contact with and the other is such an amazing person, I really don't find myself having to deal with her. I enjoy having her in my life and love her dearly. Step parents can come with challenges or can be absolutely wonderful...and everything in between. Y...

granite_butterfly responded to a discussion called What are your main reasons in helping other people? in help others.
The reason I help other people is that I am naturally kind and generous person. I like to do deeds that make a difference in people's lives, no matter how small. When I help another person, I am not thinking about the benefits but every time I do help someone, I gain from it. Giving of ourselves makes us better people and we have the comfort in knowing that we are helping humankind. Those benef...

granite_butterfly responded to a discussion called younger kids to join contest shouldn't? in people.
I am against beauty pagents for children, particularly after the death of Jon Benet Ramsay. In my opinion, pagents are far to competitive and steal away childhoods. Really, we should let children be children. Not dress them up like miniature adults for our own entertainment. It is sickening.

Slips Of The Tongue-A Blonde Haired, Blue Eyed Rant.

Don't It Make Your Brown Eyes Blue?

Recently a doctor in the US has found a laser technique that turns brown eyes blue. Am I alone when I shake my head and say "What?" This may be vanity gone too far. It is one thing to wear coloured...

Self Injury And Youth-A Silent Epidemic

A recent study released in the US has revealed that 1 in 12 teens cut or otherwise hurt themselves. To me this is a staggering number. It is tragic to learn that so many youths are suffering in this...
