I lost a star point...

A few minutes ago, while responding to topics, I noticed that my star was a red 9, it used to be a blue 10. I know it isn't a big deal there, but it felt kinda sad for me, doesn't it mean someone marked your discussion or response a negative? Anyhow, did that ever happen to you? How did you feel about it? Likewise, how did it feel when you received a bonus on your star? For those who didn't get what I mean, as a mylot rule, when you reach your first 100 posts, you get your star points. The more people who rate your discussions or responses positively, you get an upgrade, so I think 7 was white, then 9 is red and 10 is blue (the highest is 10). And when a person does mark your responses negatively, then your rank moves down.

hello laydee, sorry to hear that you are sad about your star, dont worry it is just a star number it is not your worth and value out here really coz everybody (ok majority) here knows that the star number fluctuate a lot every now and then. star rating goes down for different reason. * like you said, it could be someone rate you negative in one of your discussion or a comment you posted to one's discussion. * it could be someone sees your post alarming so the poster gave you an exclamation rate (!) * someone may not like you and will give you negative rate no matter how great your post is. * you might have posted to a discussion that is sensitive and have posted something that most didnt like and that gives them a reason to give you a negative sign. * the discussion you take part with got deleted. * a discussion where you earn a best response got deleted. * one or more discussion that you started got deleted (remember some likes to rate the discussion it self so if your discussion got deleted such plus rate will be gone too) anyway, when i reached my 100 post i got a 9 star on it and the next day i got a 10 (i think) the highest rate i got is 98 and that is something coz i thought having such rate means i am really well appreciated by most. then over time i have read a lot of discussion that got hit by trolls and that made me realize that our star number is nothing but a mere colorful star right next to us. the meaning of it is tarnish already and shouldnt be used as a tool to measure one's credibility. if you have a lot of friends out here who supports you all this time , then you have earned their respect, friendship as well as the worth of being a great part of the mylot community. cheer up, see the beauty of it. we are all here to enjoy each discussion as well as the friendship - that is all that matters. have a great sunday! takecare

Oh thank you for that clarifying response. I think my drop of star points got something to do with a post recently deleted when the topic itself was deleted, and I think I got a best response in that topic. Hehehe.. Anyhow, that's a lot for the clarification, and indeed we should not be judged with our star points but as to how we interact with people here in mylot.

hello laydee, you're very much welcome and i appreciate the honer of having the best response out here - it is very kind of you indeed! i have experienced the same thing a few days ago when a friend of mine have his discussion deleted and i am the BR there and that pulls me down to get a 9 but that is ok coz despite the fact that it is deleted - fact is i have conveyed my thoughts regarding the subject matter and have heard the OP's response as well. it is a great way to communicate with friends and get to know each other out here no matter what haha! good night!

Yeah you right. Seeing our rating from 10 fall to 9. It very hurt us. But we can't jaded. We still can increase by making a good respond and hope other myLot members give rate prositively to us. But for those who respond use negatively, I think they have a reason do it. This is thing is haven't happen to me before, but I ever happen is my reputation is dropping by 90/100 to 88/100. So a few day later I try to make as good as to got my reputation. This is life, sometimes we are in the high place, sometimes we are in the low place. So face it and receive it. From that we can make an improvement. I hope you soon can get back your blue star. Keep post Happy myLotting...

Yeah I guess. But as for the question on the 'impact' of these stars, I don't think there is an impact on bonuses. I think it's like the time your teacher gave you or marked a star in your paper, or the time when your parent said "nice job". It brings about good feelings inside and somehow motivates you to doing better. All the same, a drop in the rating is like the feeling when you did something nice and it came unnoticed or when you unintentionally hurt someone's ego, and you had to pay for it through gossip. hehe.. But all the while, things wouldn't be changed anyhow ~ I guess. Thanks for participating in this discussion guys, at least I see that stars don't really matter as long as there are people here who shows you that you don't need stars to belong. =)

hehe thats why innocence is bliss no worries here when I hurt someones feelings haha jk! So what is the point of having star points? do you get an extra bonus?!? I just want the cool star, I mean then I can feel all warm and fuzzy inside, like people on mylot actually do care about me =p

thrree yellow stars - three stars
When I first got the start it was an 9; then about a week later it changed into an 8. Then I got a best response, and my number went from a 8 to an 9.I felt kind of bad went it dropped down to an 8; because I thought all my discussions and comments were good, and I couldn't think of any reason anyone would want to give them a negative vote. Then it dawned on me. Maybe my rating went down because no one was voting on my discussions or comments.

Oh, when someone isn't voting on your discussions is that one of the things that could make your rating down? I actually didn't understand it, because as far as best response is, knock on woods, but I get at least 1 best response rate every week. But oh well, maybe there are those topics when one didn't really get what I meant or was insulted (well, I'm sure it was unintentional on my part).

Thank you for your input I did not know how the star system worked. I also did not know how the ranking system worked. I would never give someone a negative respone unless it was an especially crude post. So far it seems like most discussion on here are sincere posts and aboveboard.

I've just posted my 100th (this would be my 101th) and just got myself a star with a 10. I was really happy about it that I thought I'll share my happiness with all my friends here and everybody as well. Now you're telling me that that ranking or rating can actually go down? I know what you mean when you said it felt kind of sad. Its like you've been punished or penalized for something you're not even aware of. I just hope mine will remain as is for at least of couple of days, at least after I've settled down from my excitement....awwooohhhoooo!

Oh yeah, it's kinda sat truly because you didn't know what wrong you did, nor did I realize I wronged someone. Anyhow, I guess your star is where it should be and hope you could retain that far longer too. Just remember that stars doesn't really show who you are as a person. =) Happy mylotting!

Oh yes of course, laydee...I'm just expressing my excitement here about something that I got for which I wasn't really expecting at all in the first place. I'm so happy that somehow, someone...whoever is responsible in giving these star ratings, have kind of appreciated all my effort here. But you were absolutely right, not because I got a 10 means I'm the best nor the greatest. Luckily, I still have both feet firmly on the ground...hehehe.

Wow, thanks for the lesson, as you can see, I haven't gotten to my 100 posts yet, actually joined a few days ago. This mylot idea is really great. It's reminds of yahoo.answers except you get paid at mylot. Although, plus people get to vote on your answers for you to be able to do a lot more. A question, I have is do I have to start 100 discussions, or is it a combination of starting and responding or is it just responding to them? Thanks for the opportunity to express myself on your post.

It's actually 100 posts. I don't think starting a discussion counts (well, I'm not sure of it, but I may be wrong though). But as far as I know, it's the posts that counts, meaning how many your respond to. But one tip I could give you is, don't just respond with a few lines, express yourself further and deeper. The points is higher for quality posts. So refrain from posting single liners. Use the opportunity here in mylot to say everything you are thinking. Here in mylot, it pays to be talkative. Of course in this sense, it pays if you type a lot. Good luck!

It happened to me a while back and I have been waiting ever since to get back to 10. At first it bothered me but not anymore. Not everyone will like what I have to say sometimes so if they rate me a negative, that's their problem. Don't worry, you'll get it back eventually and I will too! :)

well, we just can't please everyone here. it's really up to them if they'll give us a negative or a positive in every discussion that we will make. our stars rating isn't consistent so we should always expect that we'll going to get the highest and the lowest. I know how it feels to see our star ratings decreasing, but we can't do nothing about it. we should just accept it. you'll get used to it.

Yeah I guess, I got used to it already and now I noticed my 10 star was back, anyhow, it's okay, no biggie, now I know and experienced how it felt like losing a star ~ it felt a little bit sad, but I'm glad that there are people who support you when you're 'down' here at mylot. Thanks for sharing your time.

Hello there laydee, welcome to the club..~ Not that I wanna mock or anything, but I have felt exactly like you before. I was a perfect nice bluish color when not more than a few months have I lost it and I've been stuck at a red until now. I think it's not really a big deal but just like you said, it is a wonder to know that there are people marking - for you. Don't feel sad my friend and let's just get in on in mylot with a cheerful and positive banter.

Hehe.. Yeah I think what caught me off guard was the fact that I don't recall having insulted anyone thus I was left speechless when I noticed that my mark was lower. I've always thought I've done my part of being courteous enough. But oh well, that's the mylot life I guess. I hope sooner or later you regain your bluish star soon. And yeah, life isn't really about star points, it's about how you could enjoy your time here at mylot. Happy mylotting!

hi laydee, sorry to hear about that. the good news is..you are not alone. i think it is happening to everyone, at least most of all. i just lost 2 point, which doesn't affect the star color. well, you are right that it's not a big deal. it's just a game. like in the game, you loss and get the points. so, i think if we keep post quality post, everything will be ok.

hi laydee it happened to me really bad, someone was trolling and stayed on negating until he or she had moved me from a ten to a six, and now I am back at an eight. I had done nothing to deserve that but because I declared smoking was bad for your health some nasty troll really took out after me. mylot caught the p ersons but I did not get back my ten so am still wo rking at it and hoping someon will be positive on my discussions and responses too.I felt really sad and upset about it.

Oh yeah, what happened to you is worst than mine, I think I lost my points for several discontinued or deleted topics wherein I was named best response. Anyhow, back to you, it's really tough that some troll really made it their life's goal to take out your star points. But I'm glad you didn't really feel the need to quit on this thing and that you are slowly regaining your stars. Indeed star points are very fragile, as I see it, a few people's negative rating could immediately impact it. It's sad because these ratings are not really accurate and easily vulnerable to pranks and revengeful acts.

The only problem with the rating system is that anyone can rate your discussion or response negative just because they don't agree with it. Which is contradictive to this type of forum. We are here to discuss and/or argue our own opinions, and the fact that my opinion or facts are different from another person doesn't make it negative. You will find a lot of misuse of this privelage here.

You are right with regards the rating people negatively just because they don't agree with what you are saying. That's so true, I think mylot should somehow look into this abuse of power so to speak. But I don't really know how they compute these things, maybe there are percentages as to how many would mark you negative before it takes effect, isn't there? Well, for now I have no idea. You were definitely right about that point. And I'm glad that people around here (well, I'm speaking to those who are in this thing for fun and not to mess around people) that stars don't really stand for who you are. =)

Yeah, mylot is indeed human so to speak, there are mysteries about it that pop up suddenly and we are left with questions. But yeah, I'm ok about it and not really disheartened, even noticed that my blue 10 star is back. Anyhow, that's for the support and the response.

It happened to me right after I got my star. It bothered me because I wasn't used to it and I wondered what did I do or say to someone did I offend anyone. I tried to stay away from discussions that I would have to be negative with and then still it happened. It only last a day and it went back up. I don't think it is a big deal now.

At least yours came back up. Until now I'm wondering where did I offend anyone. But I don't think that points should be a basis though of sharing ones opinion. In this life, I have come to realize that though it is good to be agreeable, but it's not healthy to be agreeable all the time. So for that someone who took my star point away ~ get a life! hehehe.. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the matter.

Yeah, I guess there are so many discussions which got deleted that's why our star rating went down a while. But as they said, remember to understand that a star rating doesn't matter in this world, credibility always comes from how people view you personally, it's not the star mark that makes your mylot life go round!

Hmm.. I didn't quite get what you meant, but if I understand it correctly, you were asking if I ever did give someone a negative mark? Oh well, I did, there was once when I saw that someone was too stiff in their arguments. The person couldn't accept the fact that each person are unique and each have a different understanding on a matter, thus most of the times, people's ideas and preferences clash. Well, the person started swearing and forcefully insisted that his/her idea was far better. So, in order to keep the person's feet on the ground, I gave that person a negative. So that he/she would understand that no matter how 'great' you feel of yourself, you are just human still, and should learn to adjust and keep your perspective to yourself instead of lecturing people and forcing on them your ideas. Thanks for participating.

Hi friend,After my 100 posts I got only 5 on my star.I got depressed and sad, after 2 days it went upto 6 and 7 and suddenly from 7 it went upto 9.Am having 9 on my star now,but I dont think it goes down bcoz of mylotters rating,I feel its your partcipation or the more activities you take part. When your activities reduce star also goes down.I feel so.Dont worry ,your star will rise back to 10.all the best.happy mylotting.
