Do you prefer canned or frozen?

I grew up on canned vegetables, I guess because they are cheaper. But now I use frozen and they are So much better. Not only do they taste better, but it is nice to be able to cook as little or as much as I want. Sometimes I cook only a small portion for my son. Sometimes I cook a whole bag to go in a recipe or when we are having a big meal. Which do you prefer?

I LOVE frozen veggies. I have canned on hand because we go through alot and my freezer doesn't hold that much, but I have always preferred frozen. I tastes so much better, and all the vitamins haven't been cooked out of them. We used to have a deep freeze when I was a kid, and my mom grew her own veggies, so every canning season, we would prepare our veggies, bag 'em up and put them in the deep freeze. We always had enough to get us through til next harvest. I think my favorites of all time were fresh frozen sweet corn, and green beans. Yum......

We grew and froze some, but there was never enough to last all year-- big family. We mostly had canned. Now I have a small family and our freezer holds enough for us.

I grew up on canned veggies and wasn't a fan of them. Still can't eat a plain pea. My grandparents had a farm so she froze a lot of her veggies. So every time we visited we would bring home all the goodies. Frozen is good! We grow a lot of our own veggies too. This year we tried corn, but we think we left it on the stalk to long. Oh well there is next year. We also tried Japanese eggplant and that is very good. I don't think I would want to try canned eggplant, if there is such a thing. LOL

I've grown my own, too and made a few mistakes. It's all trial and error. Someday we'll get it right.

Frozen vegetables have much better taste and I'd be lost without them now. After I had my heart attack the dietician advised I used the frozen because apparently there is a lot of salt in some canned vegetables and I was told to Not ever eat canned soup, way too much salt in canned soup, not that you're asking about soup but I thought I would just mention that. Hope you don't mind.

Don't mind at all. You are right about the salt in canned veggies and soup. I read somewhere that one can of condensed soup has 3 days' allowance of sodium. That's scary. I do use it once in a while, but not often.

I prefer fresh or frozen vegetables over canned vegetables with the exception of green beans. I have never really liked frozen green beans. We do not use many frozen vegetables either though. We mostly use fresh veggies.

We always had frozen from the garden veggies when i was growing up. Carrots were from the root cellar as well as potatoes. I like the frozen ones because it just freaks me out that the canned ones sit in water/juices for so long before we eat them and you have to open the whole can...and cook it..frozen you take what you want.

Yeah, and sitting in the juice made them mushy. Frozen is definitely better-- closest to fresh.

Sometimes i think the cans add an odd flavour to the canned veggies too.

I like you prefer frozen or fresh but did you know they are the just as good for you as canned veg as long as you eat enough five a day of canned, fresh, tinned fruit and veg all the same just as good. You can use as little as you need with frozen and it goes back in freezer with no waste.
