You have your Daleks and your Cybermen, but there are a host of other baddies in Doctor Who out to take over the world/universe/what have you. Which one have you diving behind the sofa, or sleeping with the light on? For me, it was the weeping angels from "Blink." They can only move when you aren't looking, kill you by sending you into the past and forcing you to live out of time, and they're everywhere. The final cuts in that episode were really unnerving. The whole episode had a very horror film feel about it.

I liked the weeping angels too (modern "Who" seems to be at its best when the stories are in the same vein as "Sapphire and Steel") but for me the classic monsters are the Autons. I remember when I first saw them as a kid of 4 or 5, I was nervous of shop window dummies for a while afterwards!

Shop window dummies make me nervous, regardless. I remember being in a mall once and the "dummy" moved. Turned out it was a model, but that first moment when she broke pose, I nearly shrieked. Not the coolest thing to do when you're twelve. But, dummies just stand there, staring at you. Who know what they get up to when we're not around?
