If science ever gets to the point where you could have wings...would you --

get them? Or how about a tail? Whiskers? Animal-like eyes? Honest-to-goodness scales or different colored skin (purple, blue, green?). For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to have wings. I realize that I'm a bit heavy to fly with wings even if I had them (even though I'm a tiny girl and don't weigh alot for a human being, my wings would have to be huge in order to lift me even an inch, and I'd have to develop huge muscles -- which adds to weight -- that'd make my back look weird to go much higher. Because human beings were never meant to fly in that way.), but all the same...I've always felt that, if I was ever missing something as a creature of this world...it was wings. Thinking about it further, I've realized that a tail might not be that bad either, especially if it was prehensil. Eyes, however, I'd have to think about. I kinda like my own eyes, but to be able to see in the dark -- better than I normally can, anyway? It'd be tempting. Nowadays, science is advancing in major ways. Already they're devloping mechanical replacement eyes for the blind, and for those who've lost their own. Mechnical limbs are gradually getting better and more like the real thing, and they're working on the science to be able to grow replacement organs for the dying. Exoskeletons for the paralized, for soldiers, for everyday workers. Robotics is quickly advancing, and now they're talking about giving computers DNA. Concievably, science could someday take body modification to the next level -- maybe not in our lifetimes, but it's within reason. While all the examples I've given are more organic, if you could get a mechical body-mod would you? Like enhancing your arms or legs to be stronger, camera-eyes to record what you see so that the world can see the way you can? I know alot of folks like their bodies as is, and I'm not displeased with my own either. But something like this, someday, seems like a wonderful option.

i don't think i would go for any modifications. god made us this way, and that was surely for a reason. having eyes with cameras and very strong limbs have their side effects. extra power, or power that we weren't naturaly endowed with is not of much use. it would be far more safe and handy to carry a digicam with you, and protect your limbs by wearing a metal cover or anything like that. i saw on discovery once that humans use only 7% of their brain's power. i guess we should first concentrate on using more of our brains, that in turn will introduce to us the powers that we already have.

as far as wings part is concerned, it srely is very romantic and cute.. but i guess we have a solution for that as well. you can own a glider, as wings would be quite fragile, and suppose if they start disfunctioning, then you might get in serious danger. anything that's not a part of your body shouldn't be trusted too much.. or still if we ever have wings for humans, we should never forget to carry a parachute ..lol!

I don't think that I will opt for an extra fitting.I may feel very odd and uncomfortable in many positions in my day to day life. And I won't be knowing where to keep this thing or things while I sleep and doing other things in bed.It will be a great inconvenience to find a dress to accommodate these new appendages. And I can't stand the sight of me looking neither like a human nor like any animal or bird.

Thanks for remembering that.Yes I asked something like 'where would you like to fly to if you have wings'?

I'm not sure, those are things that I could think about, imagine, but in the end I would prefer the human body to be... well a human body :) I can see/understand some improvements when it comes for things that will actually be crucial for a person to move around or hear, see, organ replacement etc, but not just because one likes it or it looks good. I mean I can see it happening.. heck there's already people changing their teeth to look like a cats or another animal, there's a lot of different things happening already, but I still say if we were meant to have another shape , appendixes or anything else that we don't, we would have been born with it. That said.. sure it would be neat to have wings :):)

Wiskers and a cat tail - that'd be interesting. Honestly, cat wiskers would be one I'd be interested in.

Why would a body mod make you less human?
