An amazing story of survival.....

Last night I watched a programme called "Untold stories of the ER", it is a hospital programme that does not show actual footage but recreates certain stories of people that were treated etc. I expect some of you may have seen it. Anyway I watched it last night and there was a woman on it, she had been out with a friend when they had been mugged at gunpoint, her male friend had been shot in the front of the head and his lady friend had phoned for help. When the ambulance arrived at the scene, they found the man had died. Well, they were asking the lady if she was OK, and she was saying that she was fine and to just help her friend. The ambulance crew noticed that the woman had a cut on her temple, and then they also noticed around the cut was gunpowder burns, they realised that she had been shot through the temple!! Well she was talking and she appeared fine but they quickly got her to hospital and they discovered she had actually been shot at point blank range through the temple not once, but twice! Well once she got in hospital she quickly went downhill and she had to have surgery where they found that her skull was in pieces, they removed the bullets and also the dead brain tissue which was apparently a fair big chunk of her brain and they sewed her up. Well the prognosis for this woman was zero, they said that if she awoke from her coma she would probably be a vegetable and so the family needed to consider switching off life support. Well the family went to see their daughter/sister and they decided not to switch off straight away and bless me, this woman who had been shot in the head twice at point blank range with no prospects of life in front of her, not only responded to her family but woke up and spoke normal and made a full recovery! She was blind in one eye, but was fine other than that. Now how amazing is that? How on earth did she survive this? Does anyone else have any amazing stories like this to share?

Wow that is amazing!! I think its amazing when people prove doctors wrong. it makes you wonder what if the parents had turned the the life support off when the doctors said they should!! I think she was more concerned for her friend to actually realize she had been shot!!

It is amazing. I once read in a news paper about a police officer hit by a bullet in brain and they had to leave it as they could not remove it without affecting his brain cells. He is living with the bullet in head about ten years and had no problems at all.

Sometimes life is unexplainable. I am glad that this brave woman survived all this. It's not the first time that someone who is diagnosed with a terminal illness manages to get out of it in an explainable manner. Miracles do happen!

I did not see this show, but I once read a book that many ER doctors had written. Some of the stories were funny, such as a young girl finds out she's pregnant, the doc asks if she knows who the father is, and the girl responds "No, do you?". There were also some miraculous stories such as a child born at 5 months gestation, the size of a peanut, survived. Also a woman shot in the back of the head, but her bones were so strong that the bullet only lodged in her skull and caused no other damage.
