What's one thing that the law says is illegal, but you think is not wrong?

My husband and I got to talking about this last night. He thinks pot should be legalized because it's not a "real drug" and I say that it is a drug and should stay illegal. He says ppl used to smoke it all the time in the 60's and it was legal back then and I say the weed of almost 50 years ago, was alot different then the weed of today. I watched a report that said it is now ten times stronger than it used to be. That got me thinking of any laws were illegal, but that I personally thought were not a crime. The only one I can really think of was wearing seatbelts. I think it should be up to the individual. I never wore seat belts until I had my kids. I was always afraid if I got into a car accident, the seat belt would jam and I wouldn't be able to get out. But once I became a parent, it just seemed more important for me to make sure I was taking every precaution to keep myself as safe as possible. What about you? Any laws that you think shouldn't be laws?

In the UK, it is illegal for shops to be open for longer than a certain number of hours on a Sunday. I think that this should be changed. If the shops are allowed to open at all, they should surely be allowed to be open all day. I often find that I need things from the supermarket at 4 o clock on a Sunday, just minutes after the store closes!

that's true, i think that law is because people go to church on sundays, right? not 100% of the people in USA go to church on a sunday, so that's ridiculous that it's not allowed, however, i think there should be a restriction, that employers can't force an employee to go to work if he/she is going to church..or something like that

The government can keep you tied up in proceedings for decades just to keep it there way and though i agree that it should be legal the possibilities are slowly being pushed beyond our grasp

Well the only thing I can think of is I live in Canada and I never got my license when I was younger. We have a graduating license system here. I have my Learners, and I am allowed to drive with a instructor and one person in my family. I am a mother of 4 kids so this makes it hard to get driving time in. I have to find other people who can teach me so my husband can watch the kids or get a babysitter so my husband can take me. I understand why they wouldn't want 16 year old's driving with a bunch of people but I wish that mothers could drive with their children.

I have to agree with your husband on this one. Pot is a herb and doesn't really do too much at all. The only reason why pot is stronger than what it used to be is because it is laced with whatever nowadays. If you take away that component it is still the same plant it used to be. As well there are different kinds of pot and so many new ones over the years. I also agree with the seatbelt laws as well. I was actually really lucky to be alive. I sliced my hip pretty bad from the seat belt when I was in my accident and the belt itself broke. So who in their right mind is going to tell me to wear a seatbelt. It didn't save me in anyway and completely messed up my hip even more than if I wasn't wearing the seatbelt.

If any thing is declered as illegal we should accept without raising question. Legal authrity did it ,because they find some thing harmful in it. We should abide by the law . Law is for the welfare of the society and individual. 50 or 60 yers ago and now is not the same. Once in America slevary was not illegal. But now slavary not only illegal, it is crime also. With the change of time, law is also changed.I think laws are always laws. If we think it should not be a law,we can create public opinion. Then we can place it to the government for their consideration.

I would have to say that I can not think of only one thing mention,as I beleive that 89% of the laws right now,are only there for the lawyers to have somthing to do to prove they are needed and the government to steal money. We,both the citizens of the United States and Canada for two,are supposed to be "free" countries, and at one time probably were, but not anymore,we have lost to many of our freedoms to the above. The unfortunate part to all this,is that it is now impossible to find any honest polititions, only the rich can afford to run( and this of course are the lawyers and judges mainly).

I think pot is only illegal becuase the government can't tax it. I've done it personally and dont care for it all that much, but I know alot of people that do it on a regular basis. I dont care whether or not its legal, but if it were legalized there would obviously have to be restrictions. But we all know whether pots legal or not, people are going to smoke it everyday, and everywhere, so theres no stopping it.

First I want to say good for you on that conversation with your husband ,my husband would say the same stuff to me! Yes, it was legal but so was heroin, so should that be legal again as well? Now, as for the question you are asking, I think it is stupid that here in Pennsylvania,U.S. we cannot purchas fireworks from a store that is right her in our city. Yet, people from the state of New Jersey which is right across the bridge are allowed to come and purchase them if they want! What the heck? I think that is really stupid!

Yeah and they have done studies that shows that overtime and with continual use, pot has an affect on your body and your thinking process. I agree with you... I think that eating while driving should be made legal, though many do it anyway. I think that as long as people eat when they're stopped at a stoplight, it's fine but other than that one I think that all laws are made for a purpose and they're good ones to have around...

I have to agree about the seat belt law, my brother (who is 6'8" tall) has been in 2 different accidents that if he'd had his seat belt on would have killed him. Even beyond that, the only life you are risking is your own and what right does the government have to take choices like that away from you. The only other one I can think of is not really a law yet but keeps getting pushed and if brought up here would probably end up with harsh words and lots of negatives.

For one thing i think weed should stay illegal period. Also the law that I think should be legal is piracy because basically its like they barely enforce not doing it. So many people put songs and stuff on the internet and people download it, probably even the police officers do it. Maybe they just want it there as a "cover" to make it seem like its their for justice?

Here in Ontario, pit bulls are banned. It is against the law to own one, and has been for the last 4 years. If you owned one before the ban went into effect you could keep your dog, but you had to "legalize" the dog according to their terms. I know there is alot of controversy over this law, but you never heard all the good stories about this breed. I have owned my pit bull for almost 14 years now and she has been the best dog ever. People are shocked at what a good natured and affectionate dog she is. She just wants to be loved. So to me, I think that this law is pretty messed up and should not be a law at all. Hopefully one day things will change and the people who own these dogs will learn to change as well.
