Kids with attitude

Our head is a tough guy, maintains school discipline but although he is firm with children he is fair and he really loves them and do things for their own good. Whenever he shouts, nobody ever dares to question his authority (including us teachers). Today, a 12 years old new student challenged our Head in front of the whole pupils. The more the head shouted the more this student shouted and made his voice heard. All of us teachers remained in utter disbelief. We can all imagine what is coming for us during the coming scholastic year! Why kids do have such attitude towards authorities?

I think that it's because their parents let the kids walk all over them and never set up the fact that the parents are the head of the family, and the kids are second class citizens who must earn all rights, gradually. Not to say that their needs are not met and lots of love, but to me, it's true love of your child to take the time to handle the tough job of disciplining. It's so easy, and lazy, to dole out none and call it love. I found, in all my years of teaching, that once rules are set, and broken, there are consequences. Luckily, for me, teaching dance is a little different. We don't have to teach anyone we don't want to, unless the owner or director of the school is a whimp, but the first school I taught for, for twenty years, loved discipline, and the next 15 years, I ran my own school. When I retired from my own business, I started teaching part time for a school that also supports discipline. In all cases, if a child does not straighten up and fly right, they can be tossed out. It all comes from the parents, plain and simple.

The fact that you teach in a private school makes it easier to select your pupils. Being a teacher in a public school is harder because you cannot refuse anybody.

Absolutely!! I could never teach in a public school, other than as an independent contractor, which I have done many times. I go in, do guest teaching, get paid and leave. I give a lot of credit to teachers in public schools. It's not easy to fight the system.

This is happening all too often now my friend, what ever happened to respect your elders? It never used to be this way, so we have to question why! I used to teach in a Primary school but I wouldn't teach children older than 7, once they reached 8 they became awful and unruly and disrespectful. I hated it and fortunately I only had to do it for a term. Teaching is no fun any more and discipline has really gone out of the window, they know they can't be disciplined so they know they get away with it! No one dared talk back to the teachers least of all the head when I was at school! Sad times my friend and it will never get better sadly.

Hi ronald, wow..I never encounter like that but I guess this kid has a problem at home, maybe shouting in their house is a normal sound everyday and they are not being taugh how to behave and how to pay attention! Maybe it is necessary to know this kid deeply, I am sure that you can impart good values even if maybe in their house, he grow up being brat and rebellious!

Hi ronald I still put it down to the parents and how they have brought their child up...there are so much of children and teenagers having bad attitude at school nowadays but also the fact that parents are also limited to how they displine doesn't help...littleowl
