five children unattended in the home of a day care

Five children were left unattended from age two months to four years in a day care home just a ten minutes drive where I live. The mother of one of the children arrived at the home to pick up a six month-old,knocked at the door for five minutes with no response. The parent then phoned the day care provider but did not receive an answer. After walking to the back of the house, the parent entered an unlocked door and found the children had been left alone. The provider was found about 30 minutes later walking toward the home in a back alley. Wonder what kind of person would leave children stay home alone? Wonder how many times she did this before? Do you trust Day cares?

That is so scary! We have to be so careful who we leave our children with. I have more issues with licensed daycares than private run ones. But that's likely because you hear so many stories in the news, like the one you've shared here. I'm just happy that I was able to stay home with my children for so many years. The boys are now 7, 7, and 9 yrs old, and although I cannot leave them home alone for a few years yet, at least I know they're old enough to tell me what's going on around them. I feel much more secure leaving them with sitters now.

You are so lucky that you were able to stay home with your children. You just never know what happends in day cares, especially when the children are so young and they can't tell you what going on.

I've made numerous sacrifices so I could be home with my sons, and I don't regret a single moment. We don't have a lot of anything, but at the same time, my sons are in want of nothing.

They should loose their license. I am thankful my kids are all grown and married now but I do still worry about my Grand-kids. However, thankfully they are not ever left in a day care. I was a stay at home mom so my kids were never in a day care center. No I do not trust them. I think it is great when family live close together so they can help care for the kids. Much less danger that way.

Oh that is so sad. What is wrong with these day cares, dont they even care. All they want is the money.

That is one day care that will be closing it's doors. Just don't understand how someone can leave young children like this. I could possibly see if at least one of the kids was over 10yrs old and was just watching them for 10min. but not this. My daughter was forunate to never see inside a day care center so never had any problems. There are a few in our county that are very respectable and others that are very questionable.

yikes!! I foresee someone losing her day care license. Now, I know that at least in Texas a person can have up to 5 children without an license - and honestly, I would have a problem with the unlicensed daycares unless I knew the person really well. When my brother had his daughter, I went to the licensing section of my office - then the people that licensed both day cares AND nursing homes - and got the name of someone for my bro to contact in his area for the good day cares.

Wow..unbelievable. This is why I don't trust daycares, or babysitters unless it is a family member. I have heard to many of these awful stories. Some people just don't have any common sense. What if something would have happend to one of the kids while they were out doing god know what. uuh...people like that disgust me. I don't see why they don't get that you can't leave children alone. If i was the parent of one of those children I would have been fairly heated and would've demand to know why she wasn't there. I personally don't trust any kind of daycare. I only let family members watch my baby.

I feel the same as you. With all the abuse that is going on in day cares, it's best to have family menbers watch the kids.

I became a day care provider because I could not stand the idea of other people taking care of my kids. Some are very good, some, you never can tell. I am glad that nothing worse came of this, it is scary.

Glad to here that you were able to take care of your own kids. Yes some day cares are really responsible when it comes to taking care of your children. But its hard to fine the right one.

I'm not sure how keen I am about in home day cares. I trust state regulated day cares more than I trust in home day cares because state licensed day cares must abide by rules, the workers are usually educated far beyond highschool. State licensed day cares are more apt to be walked in on at any time to make sure that regulations are being followed while in home day cares are not required to be licensed as long as they only have a few children.

I do agree with you on the state regulated day cares. They do have lot more experience.

That lady is so lucky nothing bad happened to those kids while she was out doing whatever it was she was doing. She has probably done it many times before too. It is hard to find a good daycare anymore. It seems like they will give just about anybody a day care license anymore.

Having a daycare license certainly doesn't mean you have brains. If more people knew what was involved with getting a license they would be much less likely to think it is always the best. You reminded me of what happened when my oldest was in daycare. I went to pick her up on one day and there was a note that the kids were next door. The neighbor told me the babysitter had to rush one of the toddlers to the hospital because she had fallen in the pool. Not my child, btw. Turned out while she was inside watching soap operas the kids were outside by themselves. No gate on the pool. Unbelievably the parents of the toddler who almost drowned because of it were so grateful she saved their child's life. Bear in mind these same parents kept feeding their kid tainted baby formula. This was back when the formula was found to be missing a key ingredient. Not the current China formula issue. That was the last day my daughter went to that daycare.

Sounds like it was more important to watch soap operas than watch the kids. And not having a gate on the pool. The law here is if you have a pool you have to have it fenced in. I am glad that was not your child that fell in the pool, but there was no reason for this to happen to any child.
