Have you ever been a member of a gang?

Or has anyone you know ever been a member of a gang?
Gangs are a big part of the world today, they exist all over the world. Some gangs are more frightening than others, I always thought that gangs were something that some kids got into, but that is not so, some gangs are massive and contain members of all ages and some are really scary.
I have never been interested in being in a gang, and my children as yet are too young to be impressed by any of that and my eldest who is like me has no interest either. Also the area I live in has no particular gang that makes everyones lives a misery.
But what about everyone else. Is there a gang that operates in your area? Are they frightening? Have you ever been in or wanted to be in a gang?

where I grew up there were lots of gangs like the latano kings , the bloods , an the crips I did join a gang but it wasnt like the ones I just listed it was like if we had a problem with someone from another street we challengeds them to whatever the season was hockey , baseball , footbal , or basketbal I didn't do the football part I would of got slaughter lol

they were thats one of the reasons why i don't live there nomore there was a drive by while I was pregant with my youngest daughter an my 2 year old at the time was standing beside me it wasn't worth living there knowing your baby could get shot by mistake while some idiot was aimming somewhere else

It is always the innocents that get caught in the crossfire, and they do not seem to care. I would not want to live anywhere like that with my children, I hate the area I live in, but you know something? The one thing I do know is that in terms of violence and gangs it is pretty safe and for my kids that is the most important thing for them.

Ahhh the gangs you mention are indeed the ones I have been hearing about on the tv. I am glad to hear that you did not join one of those, they sound quite scary!

No. There is no gang in our area. We are staying in a very peaceful location. Very calm, very beautiful and people always offering their help whenever there is a need.

Not in the truest sense of the word, no. But I have had very tight groups of friends that would always look out for each other so it is sort of the same thing but to a far lesser degree. In my home country of Australia we don't really have a gang culture at the same levels as you see in countries such as the USA. Sure there are biker gangs and many ethnic groups that end up in gangs of sorts but again it is nothing like you hear about in the US.

I think it would be good to see more gangs like what you describe, where instead of being horrible they go around looking out for everyone instead!

Hi there gemini_rose!
I have never been a member of a gang. I don't think that I would ever consider being a member of a gang. They are such a waste of time (no offense to those who are here and are members of a gang... this is just my thoughts on gangs or being a member of a gang). I do know of people who are members of a gang. I also know some people who lead certain gangs. Although I do not approve of most of their activities, I respect their decisions about being in a gang. Personally though, I wouldn't want to get involved with any gang.

i don't know if i consider these people around the block as gang . but they are some quite lived up to the definition of a gang in some ways. i have never joined any gang or group that are notorious for creating discord and wars in the community. i am peace loving people. but in my country there are many gangs in some part of the city. i think that they are not only limited to the streets. there are still some gangs that does not hang out in the street. these are the higher class of gangs. children of rich family members. i hate both of these gangs. i don't want them to be part of society for obvious reasons that they do nothing but create violence in the city.

Yes the violence that they cause is quite frightening. I do not know why they cannot do good for the world instead of bad.

well i know somebody how was a member of a gang. she was a cousin of a friend. they steal money and they have killed someone (rival gang members). but now she quit the life of being one. she has a stable job now.

She is lucky she was able to quit, some gangs do not allow members to leave easily. But it is nice to hear she has changed her life.

I live in a small town so we don't have the 'gang' problem. But we did have a group of people that liked to call themselves a 'gang.' They were just a big group of kids thinking they had what it took to be gangmembers. If they had gone to the big city they would never have made it. I have never had the urge to take part in such ridiculous action and neither have my kids.

I have never been a member of a gand and do not know of anyone personally who has either. I would be so scared of gangs if they were in my area. Alot of them are very violent.

H[i]i gemini,
I was always invited when I was in High School and College but I never had any chance...Since some will meet night time and they always go out and I cannot do it since my allowance was very limited good only for what I need every week and there are no extra for whatever and when they go out, they always spend money for food, drinks and ride! LOL!
PLus, when I was in College, they said that there will be some initiation and I was scared! LOL!
So, I just focus myself in various organizations at school not a gang of a particular group of friends![/i]
