God wants full custody, He doesn't just want weekend visitation.

I just saw this phrase on a church sign tonight on the way home from a wedding. Pretty clever, I thought. If you're a Christian, what does this mean to you?

Hi ya rockej1 How was the wedding? Good I hope! Well I am not a practising Christian but I can totally see where they are coming from and I think it is really well thought of. The chu rch near me had some message written once in like text language, I didn't understand but I dare say the younger guys did. I feel like the church is just trying to open it's arms and reach out to everybody in all sorts of situations and walks of life.

I do understand what the churches are trying to do but I think it is hard for them especially in England as it is kinda uncool here for people to go to church. I am glad you had a good time at the wedding. My weekend was ok bit damp. I took the boys to see the baby gineapigs we are getting in a couple of weeks time. They are so excited but they are too young to be taken from their mum yet.

Oh, how fun! My older brother always had a guinea pig. He is blind and it was a very nice pet for him to take care of. Later though, he realized that he was kind of allergic to them. Bummer!

Lots of churches are trying to be more "culturally relevant". Lots of people have never even stepped foot in a church building (not like it was 50 years ago anymore)and they need to know that they will be welcomed. They need to know that church is not a club, but a family. The wedding was a blast, by the way! I got to hear a little more about their background thru the ceremony. The pastor gave a little background to their meeting. I guess that the bride had a crush on the groom when they were kids (we live in a town of about 9,000). She said she had waited 20 years for him. The pastor said "Well Beckie, I hope he was worth the wait!" We all laughed The daughter of the bride was the flower girl and the groom's son was the ring bearer. They were so cute. The groom's daughter (12 years old) was the maid of honor! The girl walked down the aisle by herself. I'm sure that this was just fine with a 12 year old girl. I'm sure she did not want to be on the arm of some "old guy". At the reception, one of the sweetest parts was when the best friend of the bride (one of the bridesmaids) read the step daughter's toast to her new mom. It was lovely! The best part was dancing with my husband to a couple of songs. We have not danced in YEARS! Hope your weekend is going great!

That is a pretty good line. To know that we have been adopted into his household and he wants to fight for us so that we are His All the time. What a wonderful picture this puts in my mind that my father wants me. So many times we think that going to church on Sunday is doing God a favor. The truth of the matter is; He does not need us, He wants us.

God soes not want our attention. He does not want our resources. He does not want our time. He wants US. For instance, I have 4 children. I don't want them to give me attention every once in a while. I don't want their money or toys. I don't even want their time. What I want is for then to know that I just want them. In a world where so many families are falling apart I want them to know that they are mine 100% That is all God wants. He wants us to realize that 100% of our lives belong to him. Not as a master to a slave, but as a Father to a son. We live in a world where people are lonely and feel that no one cares for them. They feel as if they do not belong to anyone. God wants His children to know that He cares and that they belong to him. That is why we have been given the ministry of reconciliation. So that we can reconcile a lost world back to its creator who loves them. Ok I better stop before i start preaching. :)

Most responses have been pointing out that God wants our attention during the week as well as the weekend. You are the first to point out that God wants us to be his all the time. I think I like this emphasis even more. Thanks:)

Christianity is a relationship with God. The sign emphasizes on just one of the manifestations of that relationship. We may not be in the church everyday but it is our hearts in everyday which God wants. We are told that in every thing we do we work as if working for the Lord, and not for men. We may be busy during weekdays but we can still be busy working while praising God with anything we do. God wants us to experience Him every time and wants us to know that wherever we are, there He is also.

I think what it means to me is God doesn't want you to just pray to him or go to him on the weekends but on every day. He wants you to visit him and pray to him on a daily basis much like you would see a parent with full custody on a daily basis.

Our Heavenly Father loves us very much and does the best for us at all times. All we need to do is surrender ourselves completely to him with no restriction. We need to be in constant communication with God , at all possible time. 24/7 if possible. Most people these days just have that during the weekends esp on sunday for an hour or two when you are in the Church. after that everything is forgotten and they go back to their lives. This is not what our God requires of us. BTW it is a beautiful verse

Hi rocketj1, Depending on what denomination the church was, I guess it could have different meanings. I would certainly agree with the statement. If a person claims to be a Christian he should be following the teachings of Christ, everyday, not just going to Church on Sunday. Anyone who studies the Sermon on the Mount knows that to live as Christ taught is a full time job. Blessings.

Wow, what a thought. I think it is the difference between pew sitting and actually living the relationship everyday. You know kids who visit parents on the weekend only really have to follow the guidance of that parent on the weekend, then it is back to the rules of the full time parent. To many times I have returned to the other parent "the world" all week then visited my father on Sunday. For me it was confusing and unsatisfactory.

To me it means that he doesnt just want to hear from you on Sundays or whenever you need him. But he wants to hear from you all the time especially when you dont want anything. Thats a cool phrase. I like it.

God wants you to want Him all the time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Weekend visitation means going to church on Sundays. You may include other weekday church meetings with that, but that would not be enough for God. Weekend visitation is just a show of your religion, but daily relationship is the manifestation of your faith.

I think the meaning is obvious. God wants to be a part of our daily lives, not just when we go to church on the weekend. He wants us to look towards him for guidance and direction each and every day of our lives.

To me it means that God doesn't want some of you. He wants all of you. Not just on Sunday but everyday. Not just when times are good, or when people are watching. Not just on Easter or Christmas. But all the times in between.

I think that it means that god wants our full devotion to him, and to his people. That he wants us to love one another and to be good people. That he wants us to stay away from the Devil.

To me it means that God wants to be involved in our everyday lives. He wants to be included in the decision making on even all the little things we do, not just on Sunday. He wants to sit beside you while you post on mylot. He wants to spend time with you every day. Sundays Included.

Hi! That's a very good phrase. Very catchy and it can make people think about God. For me the phrase simply means let God handle your life. He wants full custody and that's how it should be. Let Him be your guide and you will never go wrong. Have faith in the Lord!
