The Job We Are Here to Do

I have just responded to a post by another myLotter who stated that they skip long posts. What that person needs to understand is that this is a discussion site, and not just a place to make several one or two line posts each day in order to make the money and run. I know that all of us veteran myLotters understand this but I've noticed that some of the newbies don't get it. Has anyone else noticed this trend? I'm pretty sure the poster I referred to won't be reading this since it is more than one or two lines, but just in case they are I hope they will reconsider what the site is all about. It's not just about making money for many of us, but a place to interact with friends and discuss timely issues.

I am new but I read posts depending on their rate of interests and also the ones from my friends even if they are long..And as muchas I know mylot pays you less for one or two lines discussions or responses..So the ones who are here to make money only will lose out there also..They will understand when they see that! I have made many new fiends here and I am having a great time here..Have a nice day!!

I'm happy that you're having such a great time here on myLot, arthi, and I hope you will make lots of new friends. I believe that is what sets myLot apart from similar sites.

I have noticed alot of one or two word replies. I try not to do that to any of the discussions. I may not have a very long response sometimes, but I do read through the discussions and try to give my best reply to it.

I always try to do that too, stephcjh, except in cases where I see no reasonable response .

i totally agree with you and i never have any problem reading and responding to long discussions here... in fact, i love to read other people's story and give my opinion... i don't like to read short discussion as it is usually very boring and didn't have a useful content... take care and have a nice day...

I also love a good story, lingli! An added benefit of such posts can often mean that we get a chance to learn more about our fellow myLotters.

I'm sure the person that posted that wasn't referring to a discussion of this length, but those that are very long, many paragraphs. I don't mind the long ones, as long as they are broken up into paragraphs and not just one long sentence that is very difficult to read. I've tried, but I just can't wrap my head around those and usually close out of it after reading just a few lines. I agree that in order to make any earnings here, we need to post more than a line or two, but if what I have to offer to a discussion is just that, then that's what I'll post. If I can add something longer, I will. We each have to do what works for us, but it does help if we pass on to the newbies how it works so that they don't become disillusioned.

I truly hope that my criticism was taken as it was meant to be, Ldyjarhead. Of course there are different people here who have different goals as to what they want to achieve here on myLot, but I was referring to some I've noticed who habitually post one-or-two-line discussions and avoid any post that goes into some detail. I'm not a big fan of those over-long posts myself, but everyone deserves a chance.

Oh no, not at all. I know what you're referring to, and I'm in agreement. Those that post the short responses are definitely losing out, but you can't teach some people. Like I said, there are certainly times where I what I have to say will only take up a line or two and that's fine. I won't add 'filler' just to make an extra penny or two, but if I DO have something lengthier to add, I will.

I agree with you . you are right . we not only making money at the website , but also and it is very important that we talk about everything that we don't understand . For me , i like mylot very much , because it gives me more ..... I am not good at English , but after i knew mylot , and i read other veteran myLotters , i feel i should learn English harder than before . And here i am interested in Engish very much . Because i have to use English at here . So i wish newbies should not post one or two lines each day for making money . You should learn more and read more ...

It is very admirable of you, cindy, to want to improve your English. You will find it a great asset in the long run. From your response I would say you are doing very well.

I always believe that it depends on the discussion. Some discussion is answerable by just yes or no only, but since we cant get any pennies out of it, I make sure to add it up by writing my own experiences just to make it long alteast minimum lenght to make to earnings. And as long it describe the discussion above. I also appreciate long post as long it has a lot of details on it which is very important for the discussion. Infact i have read one of the member here who post almost the whole page in his started discussion and he got more than 400+ responses and still increasing for it is very informative and very useful for evryone here especially the newbies.

Personally, Margarit, I would hate to post a discussion that generate such a huge response! Why? Because it would take me amny hours to comment on all of the responses(which I always try to do).

AMEN... From someone who has been here now almost 2 yrs. I have seen so many people come and go on here, and most of them that choose to leave are the ones who come here only for the money, and then when it does not come, they often leave and complain that this site is BAD never learning what it takes in here to earn some money as well. I know that for me, it depends on what the person is talking about and trying to get across that works the best for me, but since I earn more from longer answers than one or two line responses, I would think that is what works for the best on here for others as well.

Having been here for some time myself, KrauseHome, I understand exactly what you are saying. This is a place to share knowledge and to learn. I think that is what makes it work so well. I tend to like deep discussions myself, and I have noticed that many do not last very long here as you stated.

I get a bit turned off by a real long post. Somehow I lose interest but will continue to read it to the end. If it's a subject where I can contribute something to it, I will definitely respond. It's not about the money in my case, it's about if I understand the question and do my part as a member to answer responsibly. Technical computer questions or some programs I just don't understand.

I believe we all have our strengths and weaknesses, carolbee, in regards to the category of discussion we choose to respond to, but I think some are really just here for the money.

I know of a few people here on myLot, shana, who can become quite wordy in their posts, but if you give them a chance you find that their topics are usually worthwhile.

Oh well they may not be in any of my discussions either..I have been posting some really longs one lately.. I think if they are new, like when I was, they are kind of lost on how this site works, I would just give it time, they will learn..But if they have been here a while and still don't get it, well then I don't know what to say..I do know a well written post, as long as it isn't pages deep probably does make more money because it has details to make others think about different things and learn different things..So maybe they just need someone to explain, to try to make their posts and replies more than a few words, to go more into detail like I feel like I am doing by going on and on..

I think some are only trying to increase the number of their posts as fast as they can, carmelanirel, and I don't have a problem with that so long as the material is worthy of some type of discussion.

I think that a lot of people know this but they just don't care. We can tell these people night and day that it's not going to make them anything, but they'll be the ones whining on their own discussion about how they only made 0.10 opposed to what they wanted to make, wherein someone with 100 posts just the same as then made $1.00

Hi there, I don't like responding to long posts as well. It feels like a waste of time to read one long post when I can do two short ones for the same time. However, unlike the newbies you are referring to, I don't find your discussion long at all. This length is fine for me. I don't like reading just one or two lines it lacks input and the author just seems to lack effort.

I do try to hold my discussions down to an acceptable level, mimico, but occasionally I can get somewhat long-winded.I have often gone to a post in order to respond to it and found that there just isn't anything there.

I'm new here. I guess not many people come to this forum is just for money. The money is just an encouragement to me and the amount is not big almost can ignore. Maybe someone really wants to earn a lot but when they found it is wrong they will leave. And to me a post is good or bad is not depend on how long it is . I'll accept just one sentence if it is meaningful.

I am also a newbie in mylot, but i've never thought of skipping long posts. I choose a post that interested to me, and i dont care whether the post is long or short. but, if you look to my post, you can see i often make a short post, not because i want to, but i cant express my feeling through english word

It doesn't always take a long post to generate a good discussion, iman, and I'll be the first to admit that. What disappoints me is seeing some who can't be bothered with anything other than something frivolous.

I skipped that post because I felt it was too pathetic for words. I couldn't see the point of explaining things to one with such a simplistic outlook. The whole point, as you say, is to discuss our ideas and opinions in an effort to get to know one another, broaden our outlook and our mind and to foster good relations with folks from far away. That's what it ia to me anyway. I'm quite tired of people asking silly questions that produce a few words by way of an answer. It's not just the newbies that don't get it. A lot of the oldies still do it and lots of them post a discussion and don't return and comment with their responders....how is that a discussion? We can explain till we are blue in the face my friend but there are people here who think they are producing lots and lots of discussions and that it's quantity that counts not quality. They may or may not read the guidelines, they interpret them in their own way and don't care what anyone thinks. They get away with it too. It makes the site rather dull for me these days, unfortunately.

I actually tend to skip shorter posts in favour of longer ones. You get a better idea of what the poster thinks, and the reason behind there thoughts in a longer post. Short posts don't tend to tell you anything about the person posting, or what they're thinking, or why they have that view.

hello friend,i always respond the discussion in mylot depending on its topic whether or not i am interested.i think it is the foundmental condition.if i see a thread which is attractive to me, whatever it is long or short line,i will respond it.I think we do post our opinion here to get some funs, not to choose something.lol good luck

I see that my objective has been misinterpreted by some, successlog. Of course I am aware that each and ever discussion doesn't require a lengthy response. I simply wanted to point out that sometimes those lengthy discussions can be quite interesting.

This site is what people make of it. One of the things I like about this site is that just about anyone can find something that interests them. No one that comes on the site HAS to spend their time reading lengthy discussions. Some people may be here looking for short question and answer type posts. I see nothing wrong with this. I can just as easily skip over the short little one and two liners as they can skip over the lengthy discussions. Oops, I just went over my two line maximum response length.
