I was thinking today how much this stuff costs??!! Not bad if you just need one jar, but if you buy for a child to eat several times a day, times a week, times a month..this stuff really costs. I was wondering if anyone makes their own baby food. Is it truly cheaper than the jar stuff you can buy in a store?

My kids are older now but when I had babies in the house I would make their food from scratch. I would buy things on sale like carrots and making a big batch at once. I would cook the food, then I would mash it up really well and freeze the mash in ice cube trays. When it was frozen solid I would put them in a ziplock bag. Just thaw what you need to serve and save money.

This is exactly what we did. It probably was a bit cheaper, but the main benefit was that you know what you are feeding your child. If you are making the right choices then it's a lot healthier...

I made my youngest two baby food. I wasn't aware w/ my oldest as I was working then how easy it was to make. But I puree everything I could get my hands on or was cooked down soft enough to puree. You can even buy canned veggies w/o salt, puree them and put them into ice cube trays and use as you need them.

i used to when my daughters were younger. my family passes on kid stuff when they are finished with it and with the usual clothing, i got a small hand crank grinder and i used to cook carrots and other vegitables and fruits and put them into ice cube trays and freeze them. then i could take as many out as i needed. all it took was time.

i dont quite understand what do you mean by 'babyfood'... i used to make rice porridge, or mashed potato (with some fish meat), or simple mashed banana... i usually make one batch a day.. dont jar them or keep them for more than a day.. and i do think it is much cheaper..

You can make homemade baby food very easily. All you need to do it cook up some fruits or vegetables and mash them or blend them up and add a little water or formula to thin it out to the right consistency. If you make a lot at a time you can freeze it in ice cube trays and take one out shortly before you need it to allow it to thaw. My daughter preferred homemade baby food to the jarred stuff.

I don't see why anyone even needs to buy baby food. It's like dog food. There's no kid food and adult food. Babies should just have food like everyone else! I would make my own if I had a little one.

I never made my own baby food, but I do have a friend who did. She would get all the veggies and fruits and puree them. I actually do think it is much cheaper and probably healthier for the baby too. She would make enough food on Sunday for the week, so it wasn't something she had to do every day.

I don't know, but this is a good idea. I'm going to look up more information on it. Anything that can save money will be helpful.
