Do you still have a VCR? Do you still use it?

Our VCR is still in use. But actually very rarely. We mainly use it to tape an occasional TV show if we are going to be out. But with TV episodes playing on web sites now, we are cutting down on even that now. Occasionally we will bring home a video from our church library too. Are you still using your VCR? Do you even still have one? What do you mainly use it for?

Yes! We still have our VCR and we still use it. We have quite a lot of VHS tapes around and it's still fun to watch old movies on the VCR although some of them already have poor quality and there are a quite a few distortions (much like static) when I watch them. But it's still ok. I just don't like it that much anymore when you have to wait for a few minutes to rewind the tape.

ahahaha. Yeah, it does seem at times. But it's ok. That's how it works anyway. But i do miss it sometimes when I want to watch a certain scene and I had to take down the hour/minutes/seconds where it is and rewind or fast forward to it. Take care.

Doesn't it seem like forever when you are rewinding?! I think we are getting a little spoiled, don't you think? Thanks:)

We actually have a couple of them and yes we still use them. Most of the time though the only things we play on them are kids videos that we have and never bothered to transfer to DVD. I don't actually remember the last time I watched a movie for myself using the VCR. I did buy a bunch of videos last year when the store was going out of business. They had videos for 1.00 and I couldn't pass them up. I have since transferred many of them to DVD but for the price I was happy to get them. Maybe I will go and watch one now.

Yes, I do still have a couple of VCR's and use one of them on a daily basis. I love my VCR!! I have many home videos from vacations and such that I do plan to eventually transfer to DVD since I purchased a DVD recorder. Maybe I'll make that a winter project.

No we no longer have a vcr, I do not think that we have had one for quite a few years now. I liked the vcr better than dvd players, it does not take much to break a dvd, the slightest scratch and they do not play anymore!

We do still have a VCR, and we still use it. I have many movies that are rare and only on VHS- and so that's when the VCR comes in handy. In fact, I have a rare claymation Christmas special that's on a tape, and I know for a fact that it won't be on DVD (it was from the 80s), and so, if we ever got rid of the VCR, i'd have no way in watching it.

The Christmas special would have to be Will Vinton's Christmas Claymation Special. You can try finding it on YouTube.

yes, we have a vcr, but only in the kitchen. in the living room where we have the big flatscreen and entertainment center and all that, we just have the dvd player. we took the vcr out of there because we just didn't use it enough. but in the kitchen we have a smaller color tv with a built-in vcr. my 3-year old uses it sometimes to watch videos we rent him from the library. i think my hubby has one down in the basement hooked up to the old tv, as well, but that is really never used. :)

I was fortunate enough to see betamax when I was a kid because soon after, it was replaced by VCR. Now, we have DVD player to do the job. In our storage room we have a VCR but we don't use it anymore since there are no more tapes available for it. Most of the movies that we want our now in CD format or can be downloaded from the net. However, in our school, educational tapes are given in VCR format so we still use it in our school.

Did you know that Betamax was actually a higher quality of tape than a VHS was but for some reason, the industry went with VHS? Probably a political type thing. Thanks:)

Hello rocketj1 Well I will tell you a funny story, well it's not that funny but it was funny to me at the time. I got rid of all our videos to a charity/thrift shop and made a note of the one's I wanted to get on DVD but just a few. I then went to visit my friend and her kids during the summer holidays and when I got home my son said to me, look what she gave me. It was a pile of power ranger and spidermen videos they no longer wanted!! Aggghhhhhhhh. I rang her later and told her off for off-loading her unwanted items onto my son hahahaha. Now I have to keep the machine a bit longer now!

There's no getting rid of them! My mum was trying to offer me some of her old ones that she didn't want, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I don't want anymore I am trying to get rid so I can get rid of the bulky video/dvd player and buy a small dvd player to replace it. Maybe the machine is cursed!

Yes we still have a VCR. We put it in our sons room long ago as we don't use it at all. He still has a few tapes and the odd tape from the church library but that the only time it is ever used.

I probably told you before that I'm the church librarian. We accept donations and therefore have oodles of VHS tapes. I'm wondering about the legality of having them transferred to DVD. We don't charge for the use of them and some younger folks may not even have a VCR. It would also save soooo much shelf space. Thanks!

Already I think that the phrase "like a broken record" may mean nothing to them. Maybe they would think first of an athletic "record".

We still have a VCR and use it to tape sports events or even TV shows. Yes you can watch them on the web, but our computer monitor is much smaller and it's less enjoyable to sit in front of the computer than lounging on the couch. We also still have some videos in our personal collection and our library also offers videos we can borrow. Mostly kids stuff, which is good. But we are in the market for a new DVD player after ours seems to be broken. We can hear the audio but nothing but black appears on the screen. It's cheaper to buy a new one than to pay somebody to repair it. The problem for us is to find a region free one that's cheap as we have European DVDs we like to watch on occasion.

We still have a VCR. We mostly use it to watch movies we'd either taped off of HBO years ago or the movies we'd owned and didn't feel like buying the DVDs for since we already had them. The VCR is still in great condition, too!

Our VCR is in pretty good shape yet too, except that it makes this strange noise while recording that always sounds like people talking in another room. Creeps me out if my husband has it on the timer and I can hear it running upstairs! Thanks:)
