Do you ever just feel "blah?"

United States

I find myself wanting to stay home and surf the internet, knit, or watch tv rather than going out to dinner or shopping or whatever. I even get annoyed when I feel I have to go out. Just in case you may ask, no, I'm not depressed or anything like that. It's just that I'm not in the mood to do much of anything. Do you ever just feel "blah" for a few days then get over it? What helps you get through it?

Hi PearlGrace, I know exactly what you are saying here, I tend to call them my 'world go away days' they are days where I am quite content just vegging rather than having to get ready and go out so I chill and just mull around indoors maybe read a bit of a book, watch a bit of TV or just stay online for a while. I just go with how I feel and don't fight it and am fine again usually the folowing day. Huggles. Ellie :D

Oh, Ellie, that is so cute--"World go away days!" You've pretty much summed the whole thing up, haven't you? And it's true for me also, I'm usually fine the next day. P.S. Wow, your myLot number is really getting high up there! You go, girl!

Hi PearlGrace, I even ignore the phone and think if it is important they will leave a message on these days. Yep my numbers are adding up but I have been very inactive this month really as I hit 5000 in the last week of last month. The puppy is keeping me pretty busy at the moment so a lot less computer time LOL. Been to the beach for two and half hours today, great fun. Huggles. Ellie :D

I am feeling blah right now but it is allergies kicking in with the high winds and the change of weather, I am planning in going tomorrow for groceries and making chili for the weekend and reading and I am planning to learn how to knit by myself. If I need help I know where to get it. Making plans helps me get through it.

ShellyB, Sorry to hear you have been feeling blah with the allergies and weather change. Your chili sounds so great! Plus, it's so fun to learn how to knit. I've been knitting now for over 40 years, I learned as a kid, and it's so much fun. I hope you stick with it. You are gonna love it and it's going to bring you many hours of relaxation and productivity. Enjoy. Thanks for emphasizing the importance of making plans to shake the blahs.

Yes...but I am a homebody anyway...I travel alot during the summer etc and find by fall I really like staying home.....unfortunately I still have a ton of travel ahead of me. When I feel blah.....it means I need sleep.....and give me two nights of seven hours of sleep and I am a new woman!

Travel can sure be tough on a person, can't it? It can also be fun but if it's for work, then it probably isn't very enjoyable. Sorry to hear you have alot more coming up. You sound like one busy woman! Hmmm, you make a very good point--when you feel blah, you need to catch up on sleep. At least, you figured out what helps the blahs for you!

Blah is the story of my life. I hate having to go out anywhere, I'd just as soon stay right here and play on myLot or elsewhere, watch TV and crochet, whatever. I dread the days I have to run errands, groceries, etc, but once I'm out everything's fine. I don't go into panic attacks, not agoraphobic or anything, I think in my case it's more laziness. I live in my sweats and see no reason to change it if I don't have to.

I am liking the time I spend at home lately. You sound like you are quite the home body. When I was younger, I didn't really know what that term meant, but now, I find myself saying, "I guess I'm just a home body." Your sweats sound pretty comfortable. Bet you are saving a bunch on gas if you're not going out and about much. Guess I just have moods when I want to get out and about and moods when I want to stay home and do nothing.

Hi pearl! Yes, I do get like that and there is no real explanation why. Sometimes I think it is about the change in the weather. At least that is one reason that someone here at the lot said in a discussion she started. I unfortunately have clinical depression so with me it could just be that so I never am really sure. I get into those kinds of moods where I don't want to do anything but sit at the computer and mylot quietly for hours at a time and not even answer the phone!

Opal, I'm truly sorry to hear you struggle with clinical depression from time to time. That is a tough ordeal for people. I know that some people get the blahs in the fall when the weather changes. That would be pretty difficult to deal with. I can get caught on this computer for long periods of time, too. Lately, I've been more successful at using my time in a variety of ways, so I still get done what needs to be done and have some time left for reading and writing! Thanks for your response, Opal26. I look forward to them. Take care.

and i thought i was the only one! there are a lot of times that i find myself in these moods. and a lot of times it's just that i want to be by myself. sometimes i just want everyone to just go away and leave me alone for awhile.is this depression, or just being fed up? as far as anything to help me through it? i haven't found it yet.if you get a good response from this, and you think it might work, let me know, ok?

Hello glenl62. Well, from the looks of this discussion on myLot, there are plenty of us who get the "blahs" once in awhile. Mine usually last a day and then, they're gone! I sure hope you are not experiencing depression. Check out the responses to this discussion because mylotters shared what they do. Someone mentioned just relaxing and resting for a day but planning to go out the next day. I thought that was a good idea. I'm usually a go-getter so having a "blah" day is not the norm for me. Hope you are already out of your "blah" mood, glenl62. Take care.

I do, and since we don't have money, it is more often.

It seems that plenty of myLotters experience a blah day here and there. I suspect that the economic downturn might be affecting alot of people's moods. In my case, it passes in a day and I am fine. Sorry to hear that you are struggling financially, that seems to be what alot of people are saying on myLot. I guess we all have to keep our fingers crossed that the economic situation will improve.

Yes. I hate blah days. It is sort of a restless feeling, but I don't want to go anywhere that I need to. It is the kind of day I just hope goes away once I fall asleep. Then I hope the blahs will be gone when I wake up the next morning. Doesn't always work though...

That's just it. I have a list of things to do but just don't feel up to it when I'm having a "blah" day. Usually, I wake up the next day and snap out of it. Hope you don't have any "blah" days for a long, long time. Take care.

some days I am just not a people person. Im not depressed its just that some days I like to spend some quiet time at home enjoying well myself, doing thing I want to do, or nothing if that is what I choose. There are days when I am sitting here doing surveys and enjoying it and tha its time to go for an apt or someones wants me to pick up so and so and I do sometimes say to myself why cant they just leave me alone.

Hello mrsbrian. I know just what you mean, I'm not depressed either. Just feel a little lazy once in awhile. All I want is to have a day just to hang out and not be productive. Hope you get through your blah days. Thanks and take care.

Going out into public means dealing with the heat and crowds. And that can be draining. Maybe you really do need a rest from all that. So, why not just stay home and relax? Maybe in a week or two you'll feel more up to going out to shop and such.

I like your "stay home and relax" advice. Thank you. It has already passed, so I guess patience figures in to the picture somewhere. And I definitely am not a fan of the heat! Take care.

I had one of those days today. I could not get my butt motivated to do anything. I did not even cook dinner. My son asked for a Hot Pocket for dinner and I was too blah to argue with him about it.

Hi lilybug. Guess we all have those days once in awhile. I remember when my son was growing up, his pediatrician would tell me, "If he's hungry, he'll let you know." Take care.

Oh yes, I get like this a lot, and feel just the same as you. I would much rather stay at home and just knit and just stay at home! I get "blah" days all the time, I sit and think that I will do something and go somewhere at the weekend and then as soon as the weekend comes I do not want to do anything.

MyLotters have had some very interesting responses to this discussion. It seems that perhaps I feel like I need a "lazy" day to do nothing and not be productive. It's nothing like depression, it's just an "off" day. I love to knit also. That's a great way to spend an afternoon! Thanks and take care.

I have days like that too, when I just feel blah, and I don't feel like doing much of anything but staying home. I don't know what it is, my husband says its the medicines I'm on, I'm a heart patient and I take alot of medicine everyday. He thinks they have my blood pressure too low, and thats why I don't have alot of energy some days, that could be true. I don't know what helps me get over it, all I know is I'm usually alright the next day, I think thats just my bodies way of telling me I need to slow down a little bit and rest.

Another myLotter said the same thing--that maybe I just need to rest and relax. I guess that could be so. And I'm always my perky self the next day. It makes sense what you husband says about your medicines. Perhaps fatigue is a side effect of your meds. Anyway, I definitely have learned I'm not alone on this one. Thanks, walijo2008.

Yes, I have had "blah" days, lol. I'll simply be online all day..or draw, or just..sleep hahaha!! YEah it's weird, after that day you get an empty feeling, and then you somehow regret that you havent done more meaningful things.

Hi chibiXpudding. I know what you mean about regretting what you didn't get done. It's frustrating to think, "gosh, I could have gotten so much done, but instead, I did nothing." I'd much rather be productive. Thanks and take care.
