The gift? Which do you think is more appropriate? Do you think it is only appropriate for certain people and how do you decide?

Do you mean the actual tags that go on the gift on the present to say who it's to and from or do you mean the card which has a message in it? Or a gift card a card with a voucher in it?

This would be with the voucher. I am asking wether or not some people may not apprciate this and prefer that you pick out the gift.Do you think it seems to impersonal?

Forgive me for not understanding my friend, personally I would appreciate a voucher because I would hate for someone to buy me something which I don't like, unless the person knows me really well then I would happily appreciate a voucher, however if it is from your close friends or nearest and dearest they should know me well enough to know exactly what I want, but it's always the thought that counts. However I never give those that are close to me vouchers, only work colleagues, everyone else I will take the time and thought to buy something special for them.

I like gift cards better because no one ever knows what to buy for me. I'm serious. People in my family call me the odd child. I'm not really into clothes. I'm not really into jewelry or any of the other stereotypically girly things that people in my family like. If you buy me a gift certificate to a bookstore or Best Buy, however, I will like you very much. So I think if the person is strange like me and you don't know what to get for them, and don't care to find out, a gift card is the best approach. Better than buying them something they hate and/or will never use as has happened to me too many times to count.

That is so true because as much as I appreciate the thoughts, I was given alot of jewelry over the years that I dont wear. I am not a big jewelry wearing person. I do love the fact that they thought of me,but I have serval people who give me jewelry and it goes into the box and stays there. I cant stand anything oon my neck, I have a very light weight cross that I am wearing.

It is all according to the person. Alot of older people would rather have gifts and little kids would rather have gifts. Most teenagers and young people would rather have the gift cards.

I think it depends on the person and the gift. Last Christmas we got our son in law gifts and a gift card. He needed something for his truck and was going to be headed out of state to go back to work and we give him the gift card so he could get the item he needed and have it installed while he was gone since we were unsure exactly which item it was he was wanting. It worked out really well and he was pleased. If someone is hard to buy for then I would feel good about getting them a gift card.

I do have some on this list that are very hard to buy for. I would rather give the gift card then buy the wrong gift. You cant ask them what they want because of course they would know what they are getting!

I think the gift card is most appropriate. I would rather give a gift card so that the person can buy exactly what they want or need. I hate to buy a gift that someone can not use. If they get the card they can purchase any thing they want.

That is my problem now. I have some that I cannot make a decision on a gift. I would rather not buy something and it just be tossed aside. I do not want to offend someone by giving a card and having them think I did not take time to pick out a gift.

i love giving gift cards. For the adults and teens in most cases. When I first decided to purchase a gift card as a gift it was last Christmas and it was for my fiances grandparents. We always go through a painstaking ordeal about their christmas gift, they have EVERYTHING! So we were browsing around Wal-mart and came upon a rack with gift cards and saw one for their favorite restaurant, Long Horn which they dont get to frequent often due to fixed incomes and bam there it was! And we also decided that it would be great for other family members that we just dont know what to get. For the teens in the family we favor the Visa gift cards so they can go anywhere and get what they want. Dont get me wrong, I still love the joy of Christmas shopping and trying to find that perfect gift but when all else fails you can never go wrong with a gift card to a fav restaurant or department store. Grand-ma actually loves long distance calling cards so that she can call her children that are spread out through Fl and Ga.

i think gift card are appropriate for some people. like if its someone that your buying for and of course you know them but you dont really KNOW what they like, a gift card would be a good gift idea for them. but if its like your family or close friend and you know what they want, i think people like it when you pick something out for them. as long as you KNOW what they like. lol. so yes a gift card is a good gift for some people. i get them all the time at Christmas and i love them. :)
