Do you prefer to start you day out with a hot or cold breakfast meal, if any?

Some folks may not be able to answer this because they don't eat breakfast. For those of you that do hot of cold, what say you? For me, I always prefer HOT verses cold. I like grits, eggs, sausage, crossants or toast. Or Waffles, eggs, sausage or I sorta like oatmeal with raisins, eggs, sausage BUT my all time favorite is: A nice Vegetable 3-4 egg omelette, sausage and cheesy grits. I think you've noticed the pattern that I like eggs and sausage (turkey verses pork). Although I like the hot meals, lately I've been eating, cereal bars, cereal or I may skip all of that any just eat a couple of pieces of fruit or worse just have my cup of JOE only.

I always eat cold and drink hot tea for breakfast. Usually bread , and sometimes cereals or cereal bars. I don't have any power in the morning to make myself a proper breakfast.

hdJohnson I love a Great English fry up for breakfast. Sausage, bacon, eggs, fried potatoes, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding (made of pigs blood) and fried bread. Complete with toast and a large mug of tea! Unfortunately to prepare that lot takes some time and is without doubt a heart attack on a plate!. The Scottish, Welsh and Irish have their own variations on this. So most mornings I have a bowl of Bran Flakes and a glass of juice. But whenever I stay in a hotel I have the works!

Black pudding sound disgusting and until about 12 months ago I would have said so too. However, properly made and cooked it is smooth and delicious. But most hotels overcook it and it is like chewing on a tyre!

Black pudding - Blood and fat pudding popular in the UK, especially the north of England

ALright you made me until you got to the black pudding, everything else sounded great though. So if we swapped the tea for a coffee; swapped the fried bread for a bagel or english muffin. we got a good meal. I think everyone has the works at a hotel, I know I do!

My preference is for hot food in the morning - I love oatmeal with raisins or some kind of fruit with a little milk in it. Or cream of wheat or any hot cereal for that matter. It's healthy too!

I don't really think it tastes like it - it is creamier - tastes "wheaty" I guess - is good with fruit and milk and I like it because it is warm - kind of like comfort food! Give it a try!

I just might, since I like wheat products or foods with wheat on them. But with the whole milk and fruit idea?!? Not so sure about that.

Does cream of wheat taste like a version of oatmeal? I've never tried it and am kinda curious about how it taste.

I do prefer a hot breakfast over a cold one - no matter the temperature outside. I love oatmeal (with brown sugar and cinnamon) and cream of wheat or cream of rice. A banana and a cup of coffee completes the breakfast for me. Sometimes I like eating eggs, but not much anymore.

You must be from up north if your in the US, the reason I say that is the cream of wheat comment. Most northerns eat cream of wheat. I've never tried it personally, I would imagine is tastes somewhat similar to oatmeal (which I'm not a big fan of). I grew up in the south, so grits were the main things we ate from breakfast, besides the eggs, sausage, toast, or bagels and flavored cream cheese. HMMM HMMMM HMMMMM HMMMMM good! LoL! I not trying to sterotype you either, just noticing a your comment. Actually as a kid, that's how we knew the other kids were from up north if they ate cream of wheat.

Hi, I just wanted to put my two cents in you may have something there, I am from up north, and I love cream of wheat. I like the brown sugar flavor. As a child, I hated grits, and still do, but if that was all my mother had, we had to eat them. My parents are from the south. Like the lady above, my favorite hot cereals are cream of wheat or cream of rice, I can tolerate oat meal, but it is not my favorite. I usually do not eat much of a breakfast. Usually an english muffin or a roll and orange juice or hot chocolate. My husband loves breakfast, before we got married, his first meal of the day would be breakfast regardless of the time. He likes grits, cheese and eggs and sausage and coffee. And he is not from down south either I think grits are the only southern food he likes.

I prefer hot breakfasts because I find them easier to take first thing in the morning. Also, it keeps me warm :) However, I'm usually too lazy to make breakfast so I end up eating a cold breakfast of cereal and milk. Last year, though, I lived in a residence where they served breakfast so I used to go for their hot breakfast omelettes and breakfast specials (like stuff called 'breakfast samosa' and 'breakfast burrito' that I've never even heard of before). Hot breakfasts are great ...as long as I'm not the one making it lol.

~ Welcome to mylot by the way. I know what you mean regarding you not being the one to make breakfast. I've been in catering and food service type positions before, so I'm really familiar with how a lot American dishes of foods are cooked or at least prepared for cooking. The breakfast burrito and 'breakfast samosa' sound scrumptious! Thanks for sharing.

I do not usually eat breakfast, but when I do my preference is the HOT type. I love eggs and sausage with toast and home fries. My tummy does not always allow for me to eat breakfast, but when I do I really enjoy it, especially wwhen I am not the cook for a change.

at the comment about not being the cook. Sorry to hear about the tummy thing. Homefries are okay, I haven't found a consistent homefry recipe, must less a consistent cook to make them, the way I enjoyed at this 24 hour restaurant called "City Cafe" where I live.

hi hdjohnson I like hot oatmeal with raisins and toast and milk for my breakfast or eggs and hashbrowns. I never skip breakfast as I am a diabetic and dont want to have low blood sugar. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day as it does just what it says, it breaks your fast. dont'skip breakfast . eat something so you wont be starving by noon.

Personally I don't eat breakfast until I have about half a pot of coffee in me. It is only then that I can even look at food, always coffee first and that coffee must be strong and rich really I double down on it. I use to love breakfast but not so much anymore. All the foods I really loved aren't so good for you. When I was really a breakfast eater it was: Pancakes with eggs in between with lots of pepper (no syrup) and sausage or Waffles with chicken and gravy or Grits and Eggs, sometimes with greens or Chicken porriage (asia) Now well things are different Fruit, with protien drink Fruit, with 1/2 bagel Fruit, with oatmeal and nuts Fruit, with egg whites only

Hi hdjohnson. For me it depends on the day. If it's cold or rainy, I like something hot like oatmeal or pancakes, eggs etc. But, if it's a warm day, I probably would just eat cold cereal. Sometimes I ask my husband what he wants and I just eat that. Sometimes it's eggs, grits, bacon or sausge but usually it's just cereal. One thing I do like to make is egg, bacon cheese on a toasted English Muffin. Better than I get at a fast food place LOL. We always have some kind of juice and if it's cold, we have hot chocolate. We don't drink coffee.

Coffee first for me, too. I can't even think until I have at least one cup. I've gotten better - I used to be an all-day coffee drinker and easily put away a quart or more of coffee a day. Nowadays, I usually stick with one or two cups. I often don't have breakfast until noon time, and when I do, it's usually something like toast or a bagel with peanut butter and a piece of fruit. I do like a bowl of oatmeal with raisins sometimes, or a bowl of soup or even noodles. Lately, I've been breakfasting on fresh plum tomatoes because my stepson's garden had a bumper crop and he brings them by. When I get a chance to go out to breakfast (very very rarely), I love me some huevos rancheros or chili and cheese omelet. Mmm... now I'm hungry.

I always prefare a hot meal for breakfast. I have what we call an 'Ulster Fry'. We have pancake, potatoe bread, soda bread, sausage, bacon, eggs and mushrooms. Thank goodness I only have this once or twice a fortnight, as it is so unhealthly, as it is fried in the pan. It is lovely . I do prefare this to cereal. Lately I have been having cold, packet cereals in the mornings as I have become dizzy because, I do not eat before 10.00am. These are easier to prepare. I do not really prefare them, just grab them for handyness.

Personally i prefer to start my day out with a hot breakfast meal most probably i do not like to take cold breakfast meal in the morning as it will cause me to have a bad stomachache. I have not taken a cold breakfast meal for years and i love to have hot steaming food fresh from the cooking pot for breakfast. I usually have a cup of hot coffee as part of my breakfast too.

Yes, I would prefer a hot breakfast, especially when it is very cold outside. I like the warm feeling of being filled up with a hot breakfast that satisfies me in the mornings. My favorite would be pancakes, or hot grits.

I always go with a cold bowl of cereal, at least on weekdays. It's kind of a habit i've gotten into. i like to make hot breakfast on the weekends though, and my roommates really appreciate it :) I just don't have time for a hot breakfast in the morning during the week. My favorite hot breakfast to make is pancakes with homemade biscuits and sausage gravy.
