McCain tough on...THOUGHTCRIME?

"Audience members escorted out of Sen. John McCain's, R-Ariz., campaign event in Cedar Falls questioned why they were asked to leave Sunday's rally even though they were not protesting. David Zarifis, director of public safety for the University of Northern Iowa, said McCain staffers requested UNI police assist in escorting out "about four or five" people from the rally prior to McCain's speech. Zarifis said while the people who were taken out weren't protesting or causing problems, McCain's staff were worried they would during the speech. [...] Lara Elborno, a student at the University of Iowa, said she was approached by a police officer and a McCain staffer and was told she had to leave or she would be arrested for trespassing. [...] Elborno said even McCain supporters were among those being asked to leave. “I saw a couple that had been escorted out and they were confused as well, and the girl was crying, so I said ‘Why are you crying? and she said ‘I already voted for McCain, I’m a Republican, and they said we had to leave because we didn’t look right,’” Elborno said. “They were handpicking these people and they had nothing to go off of, besides the way the people looked.”" -- http://www.iowastatedaily.com/articles/2008/10/28/news/local_news/doc49068f6ccce49245010961.txt What the hell? Now he's kicking people out who he THINKS MIGHT do something disruptive, based on how they LOOK? That's not Orwellian change we can believe in.

What a way to keep your supporters! If he keeps doing things like this, the Democrats have nothing to worry about. That's crazy. Didn't it occur to them that they might really be supporters of McCain? I know that's hard to believe, but there has to be a few. Seriously, why alienate your supporters?

Way to pee off your own people...Throw they out of the rally...no reason to vote for someone that treats you like that

Check out the article--they seem to have all had the stereotypical 'college' look, which is, I suppose an Obama-friendly demographic overall. But STILL. They didn't DO ANYTHING! This story is very infuriating, and Orwellian.

My grandkids said that if they'd have been threatened with being bussed to a McCain rally they'd have gone to the nurse and said they were sick, and they wouldn't be lying. And, trust me, someone would have been only too happy to go pick them up! Annie

Well, doesn't that just take the whole "guilty until proven innocent" mentality to a whole new level.
