We often hear about incidents that give religion a bad name, but how often do we hear about the good the various religions have done? What about your religion? What, if anything, has your religion done for the betterment of mankind?

You're right, the Christian's ultimate goal is to server God and to share the "Good News" with the world so they can know the saving grace of God. I also know that Jesus taught us how we are to behave toward our fellow man. "When you did it to the least of these, you did it to Me (Jesus)." If we want to have any influence in someone's life, we need to treat them as we'd like to be treated and do it with love.

Pagans and Wiccans are devastatingly underappreciated as a community-supporting religious group. Many covens and circles have prepared meals for the homeless or picked up litter along the highways or planted trees. Pagans and Wiccans are generally nature-oriented and also have the unique ability to be respectful and inclusive of people from all religions, thus increasing tolerance and understanding at an interfaith level.

You know what happens when you say "pagans" and "Wiccans." People conger up all sorts of negatives, but it sounds from you response that they do some really good works. I was especially pleased to find out that they pick up litter along the highways. I've not heard of any other group doing that, except the "adopt a highway" program.

That's not cause to avoid calling ourselves Pagans and Wiccans, it's cause for "people" to conjure up images more in line with reality.

Well Buddhism promotes peace and compassion for mankind and all living things...Paganism is very much a protect and take care of the Earth religion...Native American Spirituality is also promotes both of those things so there are religions out there that have tremendous positive benefits to the world and the living be it two legged, four legged, flying, crawling and so on..

I appreciate your comments. I know nothing about these religions and it's good to know that, as I mistakenly believed, it's not all about rituals and meditation.

Buddhism just like with other religions, all promotes peace and compassion for mankind and living things. It is all good and positive thoughts and actions for all of human beings if we want everyone and everything to be in order, noble and in righteousness. And, just like with others also, Buddhism has also the tendencies of opposite, disorder or negative thoughts and actions as being humans. Positive can not be define by humans intelligence and emotions if there are no so called as negatives. China, Vietnam, Cambodia and so on is not a Christian country in general. Mostly are in Buddhism in concepts and principle for more than a thousand years. Historically until presently these nations didn't endure peace and compassions for mankind especially to its very own people. Example is the Tiananmen Square Massacre in China, the Khmer Rouge Killing Fields and so on. Additionally in World War 2, Japanese armies trained as Zen Warriors who invaded nations like China, Philippines, Singapore, and Korea. They massacred, robbed, raped, doing the art of beheading people with their samurais, killing a lot babies (like throwing them up and down to kill with their rifles with a knife on it - "Nanking Massacre") Being humans are not always be holy nor unholy. And we are all just human beings. Can we just love more our all humanities.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has one of the most extensive private welfare programs in the US. Literally tons of donated food, clothing and other necessities are given out here in the US and to other countries every year. http://www.mormontimes.com/people_news/?id=3713 Every natural disaster in any country that allows it, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints plays a good size role in response and recovery operations. Back in the 90s when part of my job brought me around the US responding to disasters, I never saw a disaster scene where the LDS church was not directly involved with recovery.

Thank you so much for your response. I think people need to know the good that religions do for mankind and too often all we hear is the negative. It's good to know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is on the scene in times of emergencies.

My culture has given Mankind a way to Live and Let live with the people of any religion and with people praying to any god.. My Culture/Religion tells that God can be reached in many ways and not to harm others. It also tells that Praying to God is not need to Reach God.. God can be reached by Helping others, Doing your duties and Not doing any harm to others.. There is no need to pray to God.. and God will protect such people even though they have not prayed.. My religion never tells to spread the religion by harming the people of other religion like "Kill in the Name of God" or Jihad or any other things... It does not do Conversions.. Actually there is no term called Conversion in our Culture.. My religion does not tell to preach the religion by DENIGRATING the other religions as many people do. Take an Example of this: http://greathindu.com/2008/09/denigration-of-hindu-gods-reason-for-christian-attack/ You read the comments also which are present in that page.. So My Culture/Religion is Synonymous with Humanity

From my point of view, religion can do nothing at all, neither good nor bad. It's people that do good or bad. A religion can promote something but it's the people that act it out. So, if one's religion is promoting bad things, people should have enough intelligence to see what they ought to do. They don't have to obey a religion that encourages bad things. So when we do good things, if other people don't see them, then what can one say. Matthew 6 (New International Version) 1"Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
