Report it or not?

I have never been in this situation but I am curious as to what people would do. If you have a child that committed a crime and could be held legally responsible by law and you knew that he/she committed the crime would you report it to the police? I would have to say that I would. I think that people need to be held accountable for their crimes even if it is my child. It would be a hard thing to do but I would. Would you do it or not?

you're a good parent and guardian of your child.as the saying is:what is done by night appears by day.as a guardian, she or he has the responsibility to report it;and as a citizen, she or he has the obligation to report it too.we all hope that there is a world with no criminals, but it's impossible,so what we can do is just punish and reform prisoners.it's the same with anyone including your child

In a heart beat and my son knows I would. They have to be held accountable for their actions. My son knows there is nothing we can't work through.

Thanks for your post. It is nice to see that you would still be there for them. Some parents would not be.

Well, since I have a teen who has been in trouble and arrested twice (never convicted). I think I can give an honest answer. If I had a child that commited a crime I don't think I would rush to fast to call the police. To me it would depend on the crime that was done. If I knew they commited murder, raped or molested somebody, kidnapped or did something else that was major or hurt someone I would call teh cops and say come get him. But if he did something as simple as take something for a store. I would not.

Of course I would and I'd be there on court day to testify. I'm a juvenile intake officer. I deal only with trouble kids that get arrested and taken to jail. Some of these kids really are punks and need to be treated like punks. Some of the kids screw up once and go straight the rest of their lives. It all depends on the kid. I've had people curse at me. Yell at me and belittle me for arresting their 'precious angel.' I've also had people swear up and down that their offspring won't ever do it again and beg me to let them go or just not do anything about it. But I have to. It's my job!
