Right to choose or murder

This is a controversial subject and I expect this could be a heated discussion. As a Christian I view abortion as murder. I believe according to the bible that life begins at conception. I know that some don't share my views and that is between them and God. My question is aimed at believers that support politicians that support abortion. I honestly don't understand how that a follower of Jesus can support someone that supports the taking of a unborn baby's life. Please somebody enlighten me on this. what is the logic in a believer supporting somebody that is pro-choice.

The First Amendment of the Constitution protects the free exercise of religion. This right is based on the assumption that honorable people may disagree honorably over which religion (if any) to follow. Given that you accept that many people don't share your views on the matter of abortion, it seems a short step to accept that many Christians view abortion--and the issues related to it--differently. As you say, it's a matter between them and God. As to your specific question about whether a "believer" can support a politician who supports a woman's right to choose abortion, my answer is "Of course." Believers are not cut in a single mold. Not all believers regard a fertilized human ovum as a baby. Not all believers regard a fetus as a baby. Few would dispute that once a fetus reaches viability, the scenario changes--but even then the issues are complicated by conditions that affect the mother's. You cast your question in a black and white terms, in an either/or framework. The issues surrounding abortion are in fact a good bit more complicated--at least they are for the majority of Americans who in fact support a woman's right to choose. But back to your question as presented. The Constitution gives everyone the right to the free exercise of religion. Since you have presented your question within a relgious framework, that free exercise will logically take many forms. Not all faiths regard abortion as murder, and within those faiths, not all believers accept this particular premise. So the free exercise of religion leaves every individual free to consider the issues and make a choice--on not. In my view, that allows "a believer" to support any candidate he or she wishes based on his or her beliefs and values, balancing all the issues on a personal level. That's not a problem in logic for me. That's just a basic Constitutional right.

for one thing...you are a christian and not everyone is and so not everyone believes as you do. The ones that believe differently than you do have just as much right to their beliefs as you do. We all know and get it...the christian views so there is really no need to express it other than your undying strive to try to get others that don't believe as you do to change their minds. Why is it that you guys feel such a need to do that? I'm not trying to be disrespectful but I just noticed that certain religions feel a "need" of some sort to declare their stance on these issues which has been so declared we ALL know it. why? Maybe the ones that don't follow your thinking are not followers of jesus. if you hadn't noticed there are many many religions other than christianity.

Abortion is killing a potential human life but it is wrong to force a woman to go through a pregnancy when she doesn't want to go through the pregnancy. The reason I am pro-choice is because I believe it is better for them to choose then it is to force them to do or don't do something. My other reasons are there are enough people in the world, lower crime rate, save someone from having a miserable life, and the mother can always have more kids. Sure they can give them up for adoption but many times the past catches up to them like the child tracks down their parent. I say that someone has the right to choose when to become a parent. There are less people willing to adopt then there are children in the orphanage. Then there is also those who are genetically abnormal.I know that just because someone is genetically abnormal doesn't mean they are worthless but are just undesirable to many. I say if there is someone willing to take care of them then let them.

I also believe that abortion is taking a life regardless of the stage of the pregnancy. God creates every child for a reason - who knows what good and wonderful things the life that is aborted might have accomplished.

Remember, Adolf Hitler, Charles Manson and Osama Bin Laden were also infants once. Wouldn't the world be a much better place without all of them here? Millions of millions of people would still be alive if those 3 were aborted before they were born. The unborn doesn't always turn out to be good and perfect you know. The unborn could just as well grow up to be the next Hitler if left to be born.

Maybe so, but we do not know which type of person an unborn baby will become - they all deserve a chance! Every child that is conceived is part of God's plan - he planned for them to be in this world before they were ever conceived.

As a christian I agree with you. Life begins at conception. It is simple as that! It is wrong to not to give a baby the right to live.
