Right now it's late at night, and you're up surfing MyLot for something to post on. It's a Tuesday night and you cannot go to sleep. What do you when you cannot sleep? Read a book, take a shower, post on MyLot, make something to eat, watch TV - what? I read a magazine, post on MyLot and drink plenty of water! It passes the time until my eyes seal shut. ;)

when i can't sleep,i will play the cell phone, and send the message to my friends, and talk to them... 1. Take melatonin. It's a naturally occuring chemical in your brain that tells you it's time to sleep. You can get chewables from GNC for like 4 dollars. 2. Drink valerian root tea. Valerian root has been a long-standing "sleepy time" herb. It's safe to take and won't interfere with medication. You can get it in the pill form but I prefer the tea: it hits your system faster. It tastes kinda weird and will make your mouth numb. You'll get tired in 5-15 minutes. 3. Exercise. Yes, exercising during the day wears your body out, making it desire some restful sleep. 4. Create a sleep environment. A lot of people will turn to the internet or TV during bedtime, but that just stimulates you more. Do things like relaxation/visualization techniques, light a scented candle or spray something in your room (lavender on pillows is known to promote sleepy time). 5. Eat well. A nutritionally sound diet will help you more than you'd believe.

I reeeeeeeeally liked your response - so many great tips in there. Yeah, we all play on our cell phones sometime just to get sleepy...but your other reasons are great. Melatonin is a great way - a NATURAL way (unlike Advil PM, etc.) - to help you go to sleep. Valerian root tea - same thing. And exercise can tire you out quickly, so you can plop on the bed right after and hit the sack. And, oh yeah, being nutritionally well is key!

If I can't sleep ..i usually head to mylot first I like to check out what's been posted since I went to bed. It's also a good time to check out some of the older things that may have been posted. Sometimes I check the assignment sheets , give grades to the students, making lesson plans etc.... so that i can spend more time later with my family. I wander around the house doing all kinds of odd jobs or things to entertain myself quietly wile my family sleeps.

Well I am here posting on Mylot because I cannot sleep. Thinking of all the bills I have to pay and the amount of money I need to pay them woke me up and has kept me from falling back to sleep. So here I sit trying to make some money to pay those dreaded bills.

Ah, well, knowing the bills you have to pay can be a great incentive to post more on MyLot! Besides who needs this sleep thing? Soooo overated. :D

Most of the time, I watch TV and put it to sleep timer mode so that it will also sleep by itself when I already am. But sometimes, I keep on setting the timer because the TV turns off and I even don't get sleepy yet and found myself enjoying a TV program which keeps me awake . I also drink water. I also tried to sign in to myLot even if it is already too late. I was already in my bed and I can't seem to sleep no matter what I do. I turned on my computer and sign in to myLot, hoping that it will help me to sleep. Sometimes it helps but sometimes it doesn't.

Haha! Regarding the timer thing - I used to do that when I was little and when I would stay over at my aunt's house. She would tell me to set the timer, but I would stay up so late I always had to keep resetting the thing! :)

The normal thing people will say to you - counting sheeps. I tried that before but it didn't put me to sleep. For me, I will read a very dull and boring book. It will surely put me to sleep. Pleasant dreams

You know, this is going to sound weird, but whenever I try and count sheeps at a regular speed (1.....2.....3.....etc.) my mind won't let me do that for some reason. The sheep are always flying over the fence at record speed (1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8...) It's weird, but I can't count sheep...too slow for me. :D

I usually drink some milk. I may also get up and stay on mylot for a while until I get tired. I also get a magazine or book or something and read. Reading usually puts me to sleep within about 1/2 an hour or so...

i used to eat when I can't sleep but that leads to bad health. So I just turn back my computer and start surfing until my eyes feel tired. Other wise I just read something that is non fiction because usually I get bored easily.

Drink milk! ^__^ I have read that milk contains 'tryptophan' which induces a person to sleep. ^__^

I usually read a really good book. After reading it midstart, my eyes get heavy and it's a sign I should sleep. Well, that's my technique. Milk also works...
