I've been reading a lot of posts about Christmas and it made me wonder, what's your favorite holiday and why? I think my favorite would be either Valentines day or my birthday. I know this will sound bad but, I think it's because I can be selfish on those days. Valentines Day because I have the excuse to find a sitter and spend some well needed time with my fiance. My birthday because it's all about me and celebrating my life. I think these are the only times of the year that it's excuseable for me to be selfish and sometimes that just feels good. What's your favorite holiday and why?

Christmas is definitly my favorite, and I can't explain why. I've never really been much into recieving gifts, and rarely do I get any great gifts, because it's all about my kids, but I love buying gifts for my kids and seeing their faces when they open that perfect present on Christmas morning. Plus Christmas lasts longer than 1 day... it's like the entire month of December. I love looking at the houses all decorated, hearing the music, watching the movies, eating the food that only comes out that time of year. My husband and I really don't celebrate Valentine's day. It's far too commercialized, and we usually can't afford gifts or to go do anything, so we just pretty much ignore it, since it really only matters to us. And my birthday... well I just told you about that in another post, it falls within a week of my anniversary, mother's day, and my son's birthday. All of my 3 holidays in that month are over shadowed by my son's birthday. But it's all good... my birthday is depressing anyways. Since my mom passed, the only one who remembers that it's my birthday is my hubby and oldest son, and I don't get presents really because of how much other stuff we have going on, I'll get 1 present for all 3 of my holidays that week.

Christmass for me is ALL about giving. Giving of gifts as well as giving of myself. I donate to charities like Salvation Army etc. I also try to help out with toys for tots as a volunteer too. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I'm sorry that your birthday isn't better for you. I feel the same way about Christmas. I've lost a lot of people close to me and I tend to miss them the most around Christmas. I remember that the last great Christmas I had was with my mom and her boyfriend. He was killed by a drunk driver and Christmas hasn't been the same since. Since I became a mom, I go through the motions to make sure that my kids have a good day but I'm usually super depressed. With money being so tight this year it will be especially bad for me but that's life and my kids won't remember it anyway.

My favorite holiday without a doubt would have to be Christmas. There is not a special, warm vibe around any of the other holidays, in my opinion. When Christmas comes around, the families come together, we have a big meal, we sit and watch Charlie Brown's Christmas, :), we give and receive gifts... And it's just an overall festive mood for everyone. It's a happy time, and overall joyful experience. We usually go to church on Christmas Eve, and then come home and open the gifts, eventually going to sleep... Then on Christmas Day we usually watch the big football game and have a big meal for dinner... The cold weather is a plus, too!

That sounds very nice. My family is too far away to do that, maybe that's why I don't like Christmas as much as other holidays.

my favorite holiday will be my anniversary. It has always been very special as me and my husband spend time together with his phone switched off and we go to some remote areas in mountains with very few people around us, away from the fast and hectic life that we lead. Those few days are really amazing.. :)

Hi there! My favorite occasion is Christmas. We always have reunions every Christmas and its fun cause everyone in the family and relatives are there. I always look forward to it. Its actually the biggest event for us every Christmas cause we spend it every 24th of December. So it's like our Christmas day. Ciao!

That sounds very nice. My family lives too far away to do something like that. I don't know my fathers family. My sister is 2 hours away with her family. My mom is 7 hours away. My mom's side of the family is with her. My fiances mom is 8 hours away. his siblings and father are only about 20 minutes away but usually have their own plans. We do something small, just us and our 3 kids.

It's a tie for me. I like Christmas because I get the day off and get to spend time with my son. I like New Years for the fireworks, and again, I get the day off.

Spending time with your son and having time off from work are the best reasons of all.

Christmas because it's the longest holiday. We are celebrating Christmas for about 2 weeks.

I only celebrate it for one day. It's one of my least favorites. It's too commercialized for me.

I'm a stay at home mom. I just don't get "into" Christmas. I'm a Grinch. I worked retail for many years and that kind of ruins it for you. It's way too commercializeed for me.

Maybe for some people with jobs can only celebrate Christmas for a day but for us students we are celebrating it for 2 weeks or more. My birthday is also my favorite holiday...

Mine is also Christmas. As you can tell I am in the mood for it already with my avatar. It is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus and to share joy and love with all mankind is why. I love donating and helping out at charities around this time of year as well. I can't do as much now because I am taking care of my elderly father. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

My favorite is still Christmas. I like seeing the streets filled with Christmas lights and the malls ensuring that they give their shoppers the merry feeling. I like buying gifts for the people who matter to me and seeing their reactions when they unwrap their gifts. And most of all, I think it's the extended celebration that I like. It's not a one-day celebration. It extends until even after New Year. Get togethers are even scheduled around this time because a lot of people are on vacation.

without a blink of the eye i can say that my fave holiday would be Christmas. this is the season for love, giving and receiving. the holiday reminds all of us how much God loves us, because of this love He gave us His only Son Jesus Christ to save and redeem us all from sins. God is indeed marvelous, loving and giving. the source of our life and salvation. because of His love we must also give love to our fellow men. Christmas is the time for us to realized and give love and share what we have to others. Great topic!!!! Advance Happy Holidays!!!

I have always loved halloween and the fourth of july. I loved these holidays because they were no stress holidays. An excuse to have fun, without the pressure of shopping or cooking... just go out an have fun...

My favorite holiday always has been and always will be Halloween. It's the one day you can be whoever you want, eat candy and its okay, and it's okay to be afraid. The only mask we wear is one of fun, not one of stress and worry. And you know that if someone gives you a card or a gift, it's because they want to. I like the other holidays, but I feel like valentines day and christmas and your birthday says you HAVE to receive something. I want to receive something because someone was thinking of me and loves me, not because the day says they HAVE to get me something.

My favourite holidays are Christmas and my saints' day in my religion. =P I like Christmas Day (January 7th for me) because we've been celebrating it for as long as I can remember. It's one of those things that you don't miss, and I really look forward to it year-round. The other holiday is saints' day. In Orthodox Christianity, every family celebrates a certain saint depending on the day the father of the family was born. My father's birthday is on May 11, so we celebrate the saint nearest to that day, St. George, on May 6 (he happens to be my saint as well). I consider this day important because it's a religious thing and something my parents and I do together. ^_^ Oh, and my birthday, I guess - May 14. xD

My favorite holiday is Christmas. I absolutely love it. We use to have bad Christmas' when we were kids and ever since I became a mom I just wanted that holiday to be joyous. I decorate the whole house, have the Christmas music playing the whole nine yards. It seems like the whole family gets along on that day and it just make it that much more special. I cant wait to start decorating and all that good stuff for Christmas its getting close.

There a a few holidays that I really enjoy. I would have to say Christmas is the front runner of all of them. I just think the time of year is so peaceful and the decor everywhere is so beautiful. I hope to have a Christmas tree this year because I like to decorate if I can. It is just a wonderful day.
