Sassy, Oreo's Sweet Kitty Has Gotten Hurt

Sweet Sweet Sassy - Sitting on the porch railing enjoying the view and no doubt wondering what else to get into! lol

She's the sweet kitty that I had taken in for Oreo and come to love her so very much. She was hurt over the weekend and I don't know how. I went to pet her last night and got down to her hind leg area and she let out a scream and then bit me hard. That's not like her at all for she's such a sweet and loving little gal but being that she's in a lot of pain (obviously) she lashed out. Of course I was taken aback and shocked because I didn't know but now that I do, I called the vet for an appointment which is at 3:00. I hope it's nothing serious but by the way she's acting, it appears that it may be. I will keep you all posted on her progress. Please say a prayer on her behalf. She doesn't deserve this! She's soooo sweet and loving little gal! But she has a lot of spunk in her too and she makes me laugh with her antics. She was either bitten by something or she fell out of a tree and landed on something, I don't know but I am only guessing. Not to change the spot light but dang, here we go again.

Poor Sassy! I hope all is well and you get her well and on the go again. Please do let us know how she is doing. Poor baby. I just hate when our little ones get hurt. Just isn't fair. Yep, what we do for our babies. My dad swears their little dog has cost him more in one year (med bills) than all the animals all the years he spent farming!!! :-) I am sure he is exaggerating a little..... :-)

She's doing much better tonight, all bright eyed and wanting to go outside but I'm not letting her for a few days so she can get some rest. I did let her out of the cage for a little while to get some exercise but then she'll be going right back in in an hour or two. I feel for your dad because we had two cocker spaniels and one of them was so sickly that we've spent thousands and thousands of dollars on her and finally got her problems under control but it cost us an arm and a leg to get there. They've both have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge now and we miss them something awful but we know they're in a better place than here on earth and they're up there waiting for us.

So glad to hear that she is doing better! I know, it is so hard to see our little ones hurt and to lose them, but that is life! We take care of our family!:-) Go Sassy!

Thank you so much Feona!! She seems to be doing much better tonight, all bright eyed and ready to go outside again but the latter isn't going to happen any time soon but she's determined but I'm even more so!! I'm ok, it's not the first time I've gotten scratched or bitten. Having furry friends all of my life and even before I was even thought of... I guess we become a little tough when it comes to bites. lol

One of my cats once got bitten by a stray and it abscessed due to the toxic stuff strays eat. It caused a lot of pain. Another one once got bitten by a possum, and that is pretty toxic. Hope Sassy gets some medicine and the help she needs.

I just got back from the vet and got a phone call from my brother which I'll tell about later, she has an abscess but don't know where it came from but I have a feeling it's from either my siamese who's so mean to her (damn it) or a possum got her. I told hubby it's time to get rid of them once and for all. Possums that is. She has a tempeture of 104.5 so she's not feeling so well. She got a shot of antibiotics and some for me to give her twice a day so hopefully she'll be feeling better soon. I put her in a cage large enough for her to move around but not too much. She's lashing out when touched near that area and good gosh lets out a yowl but purrs otherwise.

Hi Grandpa Bob.... Just got back from the vet and the phone call with my brother, which I won't touch right now.... She has an abscess and a tempeture of 104.5. We don't know where it came from because she goes balistic when anyone gets near that area. Other than that, she purrs but wide eyed and scared. She's been put in a pen so no one can get to her and she can get some badly needed rest.

I'm sorry Grandpa Bob, my mind is so cloudy... it's been.... never mind, you already know. Yes yes of course, she got a shot of antibiotics and has some to take twice a day which will be fun to do if she'll let me. I'll get it in her one way or another and I do have some good gardening gloves which I had to take with me to the vet. The absess must have burst open while there for there was blood everywhere when the vet picked her up to weigh her and she gave him a hell of a time doing so.

Wow, and the vet couldn't tell you how she got this abscess? Good that you found it before it got really bad and now have her on medication..

You are brave..My daughter will give her cat a bath and clip her nails, (with help, of course)and I am sitting there, like this cat can tear you apart.. And the cat does get an attitude like "I hate you" We even got as picture of the cat after a bath who ran into the spare room on top of a mattress with this evil look.. So I can only imagine what your poor thing is going through..

She liked to have ate me up when I first found it by accident. Whew! Hopefully she's on the mend. I just gave her her medicine and she didn't appreciate that one bit and then I shaved the area a little bit with sheers which she gave me hell for and it took a few tries but I got the bulk of it shaved and then I put some hydrogen proxide on and boy she got mad then! Cats don't like liquid so she's not very happy with me right now but if it helps her like it should then she'll get over it in due time.

I think it's come down by now because she's a little bit more bright eyed and she's eating like a horse. lol I just gave her her medicine and she didn't appreciate that one bit but she has to have it to get better. I also did my best to shave the area a little bit in hopes to clean it up and I did get the bulk of it but thats all I could get her to let me do and then I put some hydrogen proxide on it and boy was she mad then! Cats don't like liquid so she wasn't too happy but if it helps then it'll be worth it. This little gal is a petitie little thing but she's got so much love to give. She's soooo sweet and soooo loving and at the same time, she's a comic and I laugh at her antics because she's so silly but then when she's picked up she automatically purrs and purrs. She's a real joy to have. She really is.

Yes, I know Oreo, and I remember you taking Sassy into your home last year. I bet Sassy is not a happy kitty at the moment. But she'll be back to her old self once she heals, I'm sure. If you can manage to get some, try tea tree oil on the wound. Usually when you buy it, it's eucalyptus oil. It smells pretty strong, but it works wonders. Something about the antiseptic quality in the oil. I used it on Midnight when he got bitten on the face and it got very infected. It ended up being a big open crater in his cheek, and I couldn't afford to take him to the vet, so I bought the tea tree oil and within a week the wound was almost healed. It took a bit longer than that to heal completely because Midnight kept scratching the scab off. It must have itched like crazy! LOL

Don't worry about the double post, I knew what happened. It's happened to me a few times and just yesterday I went to post on someone's picture and good grief, I had numerous responses of the same one. Do you know Oreo? I had taken Sassy in when she had to move and couldn't take her with her. Remember that discussion about a year ago when she needed help? Anyway, she has an abscess in her hind leg and she got a shot and tonight I just gave her her medicine and she didn't like that one bit and then I have some sheers from having cocker spaniels that I shaved down but they've both crossed over the rainbow bridge now but I still kept the sheers and thank God that I did for I needed them. Sassy gave hubby and I a tough time but we got the bulk of it done and now that I can see it, it's pretty bad. I did get some hydrogen proxide on it and boy did she really get mad!! But hopefully it'll help her and she gets better faster.

Oh, sorry to hear about Sassy and my prayers will go toward that little kitty. I read the responses you had made of how she had such a high temperature and the abscess. She actually must have had it for awhile though as usually such a high temperature doesn't come about for awhile. But then I guess she showed no signs of illness. Let us know how she's doing. Do you have to go back to the vet?

I had a kitten who broke her leg from jumping off the sofa! She ended up with this incredibly tiny cast on her leg. It was so pathetic! But, it didn't take long before she was running all over the place with that cast on! Since it is way past 3:00, I'm sure you know what's going on by now. I hope you'll let me know! I don't even know your little kitty, but I feel for her! Oh, just so you know, it's not just you... problems always come in bunches! After this happened, my son sat on the kitten, breaking another leg! (She had climbed under a blanket that he was sitting on.) My dog at the same time, dislocated a hip! After all was said and done, I had shelled out $400.00 to the vet's in one week's time!

I've heard of such a thing happening and I read somewhere about cats jumping from low and high places and it's the inbetween that they get hurt the most. I'll have to look around and see if I can find what the distance of each fall is and the inbetween for it was really interesting. My parents next door neighbor have a pomeranian and she jumped out of her owners arms and broke her leg. It's all in how they land is if they make it or not and accidents do happen.....

I just read about her abscess... the poor baby! My cat, Bean, had an abscess beside his ear on his head. (That burst open, too... in my car! YUCK!!!) He had gotten into a fight with my husband's cat, the meanest cat on the fact of the Earth! She just got a claw in his head, but that's all it took! They have some really nasty germs on their paws and claws! She may have been playing with Oreo who got a claw into her leg. You know how they play! That's all it would take. I sure hope she's feeling better soon, poor little thing! Giving cats medicine is no fun!!! I used to wrap mine up tightly in somthing thick, so they couldn't get their legs out, then squirt the stuff as fast as I could as far back in their mouth as I could. Good luck!!! I don't know who I feel worse for now, you or the kitten!

That peroxide is good stuff! It'll help, for sure! I just read a response in the comment above mine and must say the same thing! I noticed that I have a double post, too! I must've been having the same problem as she had. MyLot just went bananas there for awhile! Well, it gave you more posts, anyway! Good luck with your kitty!
