credit cards and credit card debts

my old classmates and i had a little reunion last night. we all had a great time talking and laughing over coffee. one funny thing we discussed is credit cards and credit card debts. it seems that our small assembly was divided into two groups -- the two who have been denied in their credit card application and the three who are struggling to pay off credit card debts! now we are all financially ok. ok means we are not starving but we are wee bit lacking in financial stability :-) we recognize though that we are all hardworking but very new in our chosen fields so we accept our situations with resignation and determination LOL! my credit card is really helpful for me but it does cause a little anxiety when due date draws near. what about you? what is your experience with credit cards? what is your view regarding credit cards? have a great day!

I had a bad experience with credit cards. I used to have all sorts of credit cards from the Classic card to the Gold card all the way to a few Platinum cards. I was enjoying my life with all the credits that I got and eventually I realized that I had spent more that what I could afford. So, for the last 5 years I had been trying to pay my credit cards and it was really a painful process. All the money that I had got and all the savings that I had were used to pay back all my credit card debts and as of September 2008, I no longer have a single credit card with me. I do not care about not having a good credit ratings since I would not get any credit card anymore, ever! I had enough... Now, I only have 3 debit cards that used for both offline and online transactions such as buying food and flight tickets and I have no more worries about not having enough money to pay the debts. I sleep better at night and have a happier life in general. Now, I am in a process of rebuilding my savings again and things are looking good! Cheers!

hi, beruang i have a friend who has a similar experience. when she told me her total debt in the two credit cards that she has, i was astounded. but like you, she disciplined herself and now, after about two years, she is almost done paying. thank you for sharing your experience, beruang. take care and see ya around!

If I can pay off my debts on my credit cards I promise myself not to use credit cards anymore. At first it's nice to spend money from it but then when it's due to pay especially when it has interest on it, it's a headache and it made me stressed so much. Which caused sometimes I am like a fool who is chasing money working too hard just to pay the debts, and it ruins my sleep during the night thinking about it.

I believe we'd all be better money managers if credit cards never existed! I also believe there wouldn't be as many people in debt if credit cards didn't exist. Now we have gone down the wrong road one year with credit cards. We dug ourselves out, that took 15 months. We currently still do have credit cards, but rarely use them and if we do we pay them off immediately. I would still like to do away with them all together and hopefully we will get to that point. Unfortunately we still carry them. That's a long story made very short. (cause it's getting late and I should be doing other things).

I had a hard time applying for a card as well because I didn't have nay source of income and the card company was hesitant about this. But anyway, I eventually got my card and have been very responsible about it. Just because I have unlimited spending power doesn't mean I have to spend everything right away. I have a clear idea of how much I have in my account, so I know how much I can spend on eating out, shopping, etc. Ultimately I think that you just have to b responsible for your actions.

Credit cards are a two edged sword. Used correctly they can save you money if you get a cash back card and they give you a list of monthly expenses. However if you do not pay your card off every month it can suck up your money and you get nothing for it. The interest charges are way too high and credit card companies make lots of money when people do not pay their cards off.

In modern times,i believe many person at least have one credit card .I think credit card makes our life easy, it can help us to buy the things when we haven't enough cash.but just this advantage makes some person spend their money excessively.when due date draws near, they might haven't enough money. So I think all of us should make good use of credit card.

Im with your 3 friends, we are trying to work our way out of debt. Never dawned on me how much interest is. I could really kick myself in the butt. Nothing we can do but try to climb out the hole that we dug. Once we do I am keeping 1 card only for personal use and that is it. Id rather live like we were, cash only and saving for what we want. We redid our kitchen as it was in bad shape and also got a outside wood furnace on credit so we went over what we can back really without hurting. Needless to say it wont happen again after we get out of debt.

I wont say that my experiencing is bad with credit cards. It helped me a lot in my time of crises. However I am finding it very difficult in repaying it. beause since that time my family size has inceased and I have to take care of all that plus my credit card. As per my plans I should be debt free by December next year.

I don't have credit cards and I don't plan to have one. For me it would just be a headache of having one. If I want something I would pay it in cash, if there's no money then I would not buy it that's my principle and with credit cards in hand you tend to spend more without realizing you don't have the money to pay for it.

hi, katkat it's true, there is a possibility that you will spend more than you can afford with credit cards. and when you fail to manage your finances well, trouble begins. thanks for responding. have a nice day!

Credit card debt is an example of unsecured consumer debt, accessed through ISO 7810 plastic credit cards.Debt results when a client of a credit card company purchases an item or service through the card system. Debt accumulates and increases via interest and penalties when the consumer does not pay the company for the money he or she has spent.

I think CC is just somthing to lure you into more debt. Like me, I am in lot of credit card debt. I started accumulating it in college. I haven't been out of school long. Sometime all I can make is the minimum on my card and it seems like the balance is never going to go down. I try to pay more than the balance, but it is impossible at times. I have other bills and with the cost of loving these days, it is damn near crazy. I also feel that credit card companies should not be allowed on campuses. All this do is cause people to get into debt that they do not need to be in. Temptation for the plastic is what I call it.

hi sweetstuff i think credit card companies like it when you only pay the minimum. they earn more in interest. thanks for sharing your opinion. have a nice day!

I may sound so backward but I don't have credit cards.Yeah ,I have this thinking even if you have the privilege to buy or pay something out of that card but it is still DEBT.I have seen my sister's tension when due date draws near.So instead of credit card why not just avail a debit card.

yes teshavill it is true that you do not have to experience bad things to learn from it. You better stay that way. It's safe to use debit card...

when I paid one credit card in full , I felt triumphant. As if i won a very difficult battle. At first , I was denied for several times. Then I applied almost the same time after a few months then came all 3 credit cards from diff banks. I wished I didnt apply anymore. So nevertheless, I used them and was really out of control. So when I paid them in full i was so happy. Now i am back again, but before i get out of control , I already made a loan with 5 % interest to pay all my credit card bills. I will pay the said loan for 36 months but atleast, I wouldnt have to pay these credit cards that take almost my salary monthly.

hi katrhina i think what you did is good. look for a loan with less interest. credit card companies are crazy in imposing interests. thanks and have a great day!

credit card is a convenience for me. it's always in my wallet. i get calls about having been pre-approved for one but i have only applied for three cards. one of them was denied although they couldn't give me a reason why (probably called at home to verify and my mom answered telling them i'm not interested =P). it's a necessity for me because i don't want to carry too much cash with me and i don't want to hunt for an atm when i need to buy something. also, since i sometimes travel, it's good to have a card or two as a backup for emergency. i just make sure that i pay on or before the due date (unless it's a 0% installment). if i do have to defer payment, i pay it in 2-3 months. right now, i keep one mastercard and one visa.

hi, myclique i can see that you are very wise in handling credit cards. you are right. one credit card is enough, two so that you will have back up or an alternative. i only have one credit card and i also defer payment. it is really helpful because i get to buy expensive things like a laptop without the burden of paying for the whole amount in cash. thanks for sharing, myclique. see ya around!

I like paying my expenses with credit cards, as I don't need to carry a lot of cash with me, at the same time, I can earn some points to my credit cards too. I have the habit of paying off the credit card balance every month, so that I won't accumulate any debts and also I won't be charged by the high interest. If I can keep this habit, I don't see the disadvantages of using credit cards.

hi kaka i think that is the right way of using credit cards. paying everything during due date or at least paying as much as you can. i know of some people who just pay the minimum amount due and it is them who usually gets in trouble. thanks for responding. have a nice day!

I have also heard a lot of not-so-good stories about credit cards. Though I still look up to the benefits of credit cards, I'm still afraid about it. I don't own any credit card. What I only have are bank accounts and debit cards. It's safer and practical that way.

hi there i used to have a debit card and i think that it is also very convenient and helpful. i used it to buy shoes, bags and clothes and other whims so that i know how much i can afford and i could avoid spending more that i can pay. if my funds in my debit card is not enough, then i would not spend on whims. take care, nengs. have a great day!

My experience with credit cards has been terrible. I got pretty careless with my spending a few years ago, and my debts started to spiral out of control. Five years ago I bit the bullet and cut up all my credit cards. Now I'm paying my debts off, but it's a slow process. If you're going to have credit cards, only use them for emergencies. It's really not worth the worry of losing control of your finances.

well for me credit card is has advantage and disadavantage. The advantages for credit card is very convinient to carry and you can actually purchase a big amount five times than your salary in a month, You dont have to worried if you dont have cash in your wallet for you have credit card to pay. And it feels good to have a credit card for it looks like you have a high standrad status. But the disavantages is when you cannot pay it on time for the interest is so big that sometimes you wonder why their is so many hidden charges. But luckily i can still manage my credit card bills by paying on time the only problem is i dont have saving in the bank for it goes all to my credit card bills.
