Do you use hand sanitizer at home? I just read recently the danger when a child ingests even a few squirts of a hand sanitizer. Here's the link to http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/sanitizer.asp FYI: snopes.com is a site that checks if circulating messages on the net are real, hoax or tells half-true facts. :)

OMG these are the sorts of things we just have laying around the house ready for use, why do companies make things with dangerous substances in them, they should know better, they know what chemicals are poisonous...

I think theres a warning at the label located at the back of the sanitizer's bottle. But it doesn't emphasize it. It should have been better if they put it in front and make it bigger.

I think we are using far too many chemicals, and all this sanitising is stopping our bodies (and our children's bodies) building up any immunity. Therefore, we will find children being more susceptible to every little germ going around - not to mention a jump in asthma and respiratory problems which were unheard of 30 years ago. All these products are overkill - our grandparents managed perfectly well without chemical cleaners, and I think we would do well to stop buying these things and allowing a few 'healthy' germs in our homes!

Hi wrangel15, Thanks for sharing this. We do have hand sanitizer in our home, but there are no young children living here. The little girl that I babysit uses this, but has no interest in licking her hands or ingesting it. Her mom is a nurse and has given me hand sanitizer for her to use, in the past. She's well beyond the age of a very small child. Still, it's good to have this information. Companies should find ways to distribute safer products. Take care.

Oh My! What an eye opener this is!!! I always keep a large bottle of this stuff on my desk to have when needed... I never thought to read the back label but it is actually in large capital letter print, "Warning:....Keep Out Of Reach Of Children. If Swallowed Call A Doctor" I had no idea that something as simple as hand sanitizer could be so dangerous!!! This is ridiculous and outrageous! I'll b putting mine up on top of my fridge from now on...My son has Autism and so does not understand these things! I am so thankful that I read this before anything happened to my boy! Thanks so much! ~Heavens~

I'm glad that I received this notification from 'my new friend' here, heavens. I thought of you needing to see this immediately, and certainly wasn't aware of it myself.

now i learn that it is poisonous i would not wnat to have them at home though they are useful . i will use some better alternative that are not poisonous. though we have children at home. we still don't konw if someone or some relatives with kids will visit us and accidentally ingest some of it. it is better to be sure than sorry. though no one in case that we can be sure that we won't be harm by those products. just knowing that they are poisonous is snough reason for me not to buy them.

Hello! Thanks for that information. Fortunately we don't use it at home. But this has to spread since it's dangerous to children. Products like this must be regulated or even band by DTI(department of trade and industries).

For me people should be warned before buying the product. Then it will up to them if they are to buy it. The label of the product's bottle should emphasize about the risks in using the product so people will use it properly.

The site snopes.com classifies messages passed on the web and in this case, they classify the news that hand sanitizers are poisonous to children true. The bottle of hand sanitizer itself contains warning saying, "Warning:....Keep Out Of Reach Of Children. If Swallowed Call A Doctor."

HI wrangeli5, thanks for this posting. No, I did not know this and have occasionally used them with my grands. I have also always had one small bottle in my handbag to use when necessary. Isn't it amazing how one thing is bad for you and then it becomes goof for you and then it goes bad again? What are we do do? Back to old fashiponed bar sooap and water! Well, I did ithis for years and so can do it again. Blessings
