Characters on MYLot!

I wonder if anyone here on MYLot pretends to be someone they aren't in real life. Like a Actor or a Character in a Play? Do you pretend to have different likes or dislikes online, that you don't in real life? Are you a different person in real life? Are you braver when you type to speak?

No I'm me! The only difference between online and off is that I speak in Italian all day offline and in English on here. The rest is the same. I feel it would be really difficult to keep up an act for so long especially on a forum like myLot where we get to know each other really well if we are regulars.

You type excellent English for someone who doesn't use it on a day to day basis.

I am who I am, Louise. I am the same way here that I am in my off screen world. I don't know how to be any other way. Besides, what if, someday, I decide to meet up with someone from here? I wouldn't want to be anything other than what the person has come to know here. Best to be yourself, regardless of where you are, or what you are doing.

What makes you think it is going to change after 49 years of being this way? Really, what's the point?

Nope, I am honest online and am really me in real life as I am on myLot. Am one of those people who tells a little white lie and always get caught. If I'm honest and open upfront, nothing comes back to haunt me later. Honesty is one of my better qualities and like to keep that reputation.

Apart from being a little more reserved on mylot than I am in real life, I am pretty much just myself and make no major efforts to be something I'm not. Ever since I have joined this site I have been far more congenial and patient than what I am on a day to day basis, so maybe I am using mylot as a way to be someone I wish to be more like overall? I haven't quite come to a conclusion on that front yet to be honest. So I am a little different in real life, yes.

Hi Louise, welcome back, hope you had a wonderful holiday.. As for your question, I am who I am here as well as in real life..Though because this is online, I am bolder with my beliefs and I like the fact I can take my time to respond, because in real life, if I were discussion something, I would say something stupid or wrong or get overly emotional about it..But in real life, some things I say here, only think it, because even here you see people don't like what I say, but I can say it without them in my face..I have actually ignored a discussion I either started or got involved in, because of the "hate" talk that was starting..So being here, allows me to express myself, at my own pace and answer people calmly, when I take time for a breather or to pray...And, I can back out, anytime, which is good, in case I get in over my head..

I was wondering if you were going to write about your travels over the holiday, I am sure you got something interesting to say..Looking forward to your new discussion..

I personally believe that there are some people here who "play" a role; although I can say that I don't. I am also sure that they probably won't reveal themselves to you anyways, even if they did. I probably could, now that I think about it; but I have always found it easier to just be myself here. It's a lot easier to answer questions when you aren't trying to pretend that you are someone else. It's just a matter of it being much easier, at least for me anyways, to just be real and true about myself rather than try to play a part.

Well, I don't pretend to be anything that I'm not on here. Also, I am a pretty open person, so I don't think that I am any more open on here than if I were talking to a person in real life. But I can see why people feel braver typing something on here, rather than to speak it in real life. I figure since most people on here don't have friends or family on the same site. You can't really tag what a person is saying to an actual person, so they feel safety in the anonymity of being online.

Hello, LouiseKnittel! I do not play any created roles here in myLot. I would not be able to if I tried. I act just how I am. There are some differences, though. In real life, my attitudes can be quite childish sometimes. Here in myLot I can put my line of thought in a way that I do not look too childish. It is the concept of actions vs thoughts. What I think is sometimes pretty different than what I do. And, of course, the language! I could not forget it. I do not speak English. I speak Portuguese, as that is my mother tongue. And my accent in English is way too bad. So, I can train my writing here in myLot, but I do not use it in real life. I will use mainly Portuguese. I know nobody that speaks English fluently. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

That's pretty interesting. It seems like I'm going to have a lot of trouble to understand Americans or anybody who speaks English. Here, the Portuguese we speak has many different forms. Many variations throughout the country, making it difficult to learn. The yes/si we speak is "sim". The pronounce is something like "sin", or "seen". The doubled e is not as long as in "seen", though. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

The man who was a youth pastor and later a music pastor at my church when I was young went on to be a missionary in Brazil. He speaks fluent Portuguese and his children, who were all under 10 when they went to Brazil, have some difficulty with english even though it is their first language. His oldest daughter lives in Texas now but when she was a teen she had a lot of trouble understanding people when they visited the states. I love the Portuguese language as it sounds much smoother an more natural than Spanish. On the other hand most of the Spanish speakers I know are from or learned from Puerto Rico where it is much more clipped and fast with more consonants pronounced with a hard sound (like "chee" instead of "see" to say Si/yes)

When I first got on the internet many years ago,I did pretend to be someone else in a chat room. After that,I decided to just be myself. If people don't like me for who I am,tough.

I don't ever really think about it. I think I'm pretty true to my real self. I do have an attitude problem, I'll be the first to admit that. I jump to conclusions and may take things out of context. That's me, that's who I am, and I really don't try to hide it. Love me or hate me, I won't change for someone else.

It's me the real. It was hard to pretend especially if I am in discussion I need to be me to express myself. Pretending too complicated cause at the end the truth will reveal by ourselves. The difference between online as far as I know is we never see each other talking live. But by means of our write ups we know who we are sightly. And that is great.

No!. Sorry LouiseKnittel I am myself on here, but I often wonder if people really do pretend to be other people on MyLot or even if they pretend like you say to be Characters or other people. I have heard people telling me that there are boys pretending to be girls on here and vice versa and if that is happening I think you thoughts about being different characters could be true. I am sure no one will admit this though. The only thing I might do different on MyLot is that I can write things down better to explain them, so I might say things better on here than when I talk directly to people face to face. Take care and I cannot wait to read what others say.

I think that this could be a very interesting discussion if someone admits to doing things differently.. Like they come here to act out a alter ego or something.

Hi Louise, Ellie here and I am ME here on myLot. I think I am more outspoken in real life than in myLot to be quite honest but fundementally I am the same. I know my real life friends a lot better so can be harsher than I would in the written word on here as it could be taken wrong at times. Huggles. Ellie :D

Everything I like is shown on my profile.I think it makes no sense create a movie hero or a star in here, being someone else is so boring, being yourself really rocks. :D I'm braver when I speak because I can look straight into their eyes and see what they think. Here people can pretend, can lie about what they think or feel.
