Dog food scientific labs - Cruelty by Iams (eukanuba)

PETA carried a 10-month undercover investigation at an Iams contract laboratory and revealed that non-human animals are being kept in deplorable conditions - we even have video footage (see below) that we went public with in 2003," Ms Taylor said. The investigator found cats and dogs confined to small, barren cages, some for up to six years; dogs who were silenced by having their vocal cords cut out; and dogs force-fed vegetable oil through tubes inserted down their throats. At least 27 dogs were killed in just one experiment, the investigators found. You can see the video link here http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/Prefs.asp?video=iams Definitely I am not going to support this kind of cruelty. I won't buy Iams products for sure. Would you? © ronaldinu 2008

this is the saddest :( i really hope that big companies would try more humane ways of testing their products. it's a bit ironic that they are catering to pet needs but have no concern on how they treat their test subjects :(

ICK!!! That is so disgusting and just hurts my heart to read about those poor animals. Our local shelter back in Virginia, has signs posted everywhere about Iams and their terrible practices on animals and warning you not to support their company. I wish more people were made aware of this situation so this deplorable company could be shut down. This kind of thing and all the recalls on pet food make me so nervous! So, I have started making my own dog food. I have been baking my own dog treats, and sell them in my online store. But, I have recentlt started making all of my own dog's meals too. They are so much healthier. They have more energy and their coat is so soft now. I feel so much better knowing exactly what is going into their food.

I have not heard of Iams.. What is that?? But the way they treated the animals is really cruel, and that it's beyond ways to describe their cruelty.. IN order to de-bark the dogs and stop them from barking, there are other ways to do so.. But why need to cut out their voal cords?? ON top of that, that's no way to feed dogs, and especially vegetable oil.. These ple are really heartless, and that they shoul;d be treated just like the way they treat those dogs.

I never bought Iams and remember being told by someone a good reason for not buying their food. This is deplorable. I hope that they are all prosecuted to the full extent of the law, fined huge and made to work cleaning up dog and cat poop for the rest of their lives... and being caged up with their vocal cords cut!!!

Oh my goodness..I would never have thought that a company would harm animals like that when all we eve see on commercials are them saying they are trying to help animals live a longer healthier life..Then to hear something like this. I wonder how many other companies do this without our knowledge? Shame really. I don't think I will be buying it anytime soon either. I will stick to Purina Dog Chow or Alpo.

I don't get it. these people are making pet food. so what do they feed these animals to cause their deaths anyway? aren't they supposed to monitor the nutrition effect, not just mix this and that at high concentration and feed it to the animals? because it doesn't take a scientist to do the latter :( plus what is this vegetable oil for anyway? are they adding this to the pet food too? shouldn't they add the essence or extract of vegetables to the food instead of oil? All this just doesn't make sense. and cutting vocal cords can;t be a part of food experiment at all. I can't watch the video it's going to give me nightmare. so they call themselves scientists? well let's see how they can survive if nobody is buying Iams. the company goes under, they lose their jobs and eat dog food. so much for science degree. and yes I hope this happens to them.

Look I do not like cruelty but I do NOT trust PETA one bit. They are not beyond making things up to make a point. I am not saying they did this in this case, but you never know. Have you ever heard of the group called something like Physicans Commitee for Responsible Medicine? Well they are a front for PETA and even went as far as made up research saying things like people on Atkins will die and other such lame stuff. They run fake research trying to convince the world only to eat vegan and will stop at nothing to this end goal. They are quite a fanatical group. So try doing a little reserach on your own before making any decisions.

I won't watch the video - I just can't see the suffering. I'd heard about this several years back. And because of it I refuse to use Iams products. The sad thing is its all true. I'm too much an animal lover to be able to live with this kind of cruelty from people. I watch animal planet all the time and I'm so often shocked by what us humans can do to defenseless animals.

Thank you so much for letting me know this. I haven't bought Iams products in over 3 years and I don't ever plan on it either. The food I buy for Mija is very high quality food with absolutely no animal by products. It's expensive, but, because she is only one cat a bag of food can last her 4 months. Another words, I'm not buying it EVERY month. I am a hardcore animal lover and I think it is truly deplorable how they are treated by both the individual and companies in the name of science. It makes me sick and I want to cry. I also want to make mention of your first sentence. I will quote it in part here: "...and revealed that non-human animals are being kept in deplorable conditions..." What other kind of animal is there other than a non-human animal?? LOL! Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija
