A shocking story of child abuse

A young girl who was locked in her room all night when she was starving hungry and made to do all the household chores for her family was exposed to abuse worthy of a Dickens novel, a judge said. The teenager was excluded from normal family life to the point where she was even banned from the bathroom - apart from one shower a week - and made to use an outside toilet. She was forbidden from playing with her half-brother and half-sister and stopped from having any books, despite her passion for reading. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1093166/Parents-locked-daughter-treated-like-Dickensian-slave-escape-jail-sentence.html Recently I read a book "A child called IT" about the third worst case of child abuse written by Dave Pelzer's. I was reluctant to believe such stories and I thought that the book was full of exxagerations until this story remined me of the book again. How does her own mother could make her own child suffer so much?

It quite hard and shocking to believe that such stories are still happening in 2009!! However, there are a number of other stories similar to these which were published as books, like Street Kid and Nowhere to Run by Judy Westwater. We have also seen these stories on films like Cinderella, Les Miserables and Jane Eyre. It was not so long ago that abuse was considered as a form of discipline. In fact, I still remember teachers at school using wodden sticks to punish us. I wouldn't even think about giving this same treatment to these parents! I'm not able to do such cruel and degrading acts. Undoubtly, I believe that persons who have abused someone need immediate help, as they may be suffering from severe mental health problems and past abuse amongst other problems. May God take good care of this little girl and other children with similar stories.

Even Cinderella was treated better then that hellish manner. How can a mom despise her child so much to treat her in such a manner? Stories like hers and Dave Pelzer's just make you wanna grab your kids and hug them and tell them you love them and hope to god nothing like this will ever happen to them.

In the article, the mother also suffered from abuse from her husband so that it could be part of the reason why she did this but of course this is not enough reason for her to neglect her child like that. That woman doesn't deserve to be called Mother.

i, too, thought of "A Child Called It" when i read your post. That was such a sad book- made me cry. I truly do not know how a parent could do anything like that to their child. Makes you sick to your stomach. Whenever I hear things like that I just want to hug my children a little tighter.

To say this story breaks my heart is an understatement. What I don't understand is the judge allowing them to do community service as oppose to jailtime "because the two younger children may be returned to them"? Where is the justice for the older child? It is possible she may be scarred for life after so long under this oppression.

Oh no my friend. None of it was made up. Coming from a childhood home full of abuse and terror. I can relate to these stories. These stories make me cry because I can feel every ounce of pain they are going through. Abuse was real back than, just as it is now. The only difference between now and back than. back than it was legal to abuse a child. Now there are laws to prosecute people who abuse children.

This mother sounds so much like the evil witch we come across in our story books.I really wonder how a woman who is supposed to be soft and gentle have a heart made of stone.I have heard a few stories narrated about some of these cruel mothers.Animals are much more human than human beings themselves. Its really sad. These sort of people should be punished.

It is sick, isn't it? As a mother, I truly do not understand this. I would fall more along the lines of lacking discipline. I was good about it when she was younger, but as she gets older I am a little too lenient. I caught this and am changing. But the cruel things people will do just astound me.

Okay Im sorry but both of them deserved prison, I cant believe they got a slap on the wrist for what they did! I cant and dont understand parents like this at all. I have also read the books written by Dave Pelzer, he is one that made it out alice and made something of himself even thou he was abused so bad. Alot of kids I would imagine thou arent like that. In fact I know one that was abused and even thou certain people turned it in repeatedly nothing was done. He is now in a mental ward and they say he will never get out or lead a normal life. Just sad to think what he could have become. Ignoring it and allowing it to happen is another thing that should have jail time on it. So he was a weak man, go to the police tell them! Neither of them should ever have their children back or be allowed to even try to be parents! Another good writer that has books on this subject is Torey Hayden.

This is not the worst child abuse i have ever heard about.. Though this is still a bad abuse, but it's not as bad.. Imagine there's one incident in malaysia, whereby the mother alleged locked her own son in a cage at home.. ANd the cage is no bigger than a dog's cage.. HE's not allowed to shower, and he's to eat in the cage.. Furthermore, he's handcuffed to the cage.. IN this case here, his mother is making him worse than an animal.. ANd her reason, because her son is hyperactive.. That's simply wrong of her, and thus, she's being charged for child abuse.. I do really feel sad and pity all those kids..

Hello there. Shacks! What a shocking story! Honestly, I have heard this kind of stories or news to in the Internet. I just can’t believe that there is actually a person who would do harm to any child… especially to their own child. Sometimes, I cannot help thinking why on earth they have been blessed a child when they can’t love and take care of them. I mean, there are lots of couple who wants to have a child and would do anything just to have a child. There are adoption agencies if they don’t want their kids… I mean, it would be better to give them up to someone who can love them the most than abusing them and destroying their life!!! For me, nobody deserves to be treated like this! Thanks for the discussion! Happy Mylotting and Happy Holidays! Cheers!

Thank you for such an eye-opener. May i wish her happiness and share my merits with her so it would lessen her sufferings. Goodness. How much more do we have to see to really know how bad people can be on this earth?

Why are not the 'parents' in jail instead of doing community service? That poor girl. I mean a mother making her own daughter a household drudge. I thought stuff like that went out in the nineteenth century. I hope the judge reconsiders that horrible light sentence and sees that the damage done to this girl may never be fixed.

I do belive that cases like this are common only we hardly hear about them. Even if its 1 child in 1 million that is 1 child to many. what is shocking to me is than in this case the parents got away with it "But they were each given two-year community orders and told to do 300 hours of unpaid work: what is this going to do. They should never see the light of day in their life. I dont know how mothers do it but they do just because she gave birth does not make her a mother and this is a poor excuse for a women let alone a mother.

This story, Though extreme.... Is the reason that I decided to go into social work. These stories are heart breaking and no animal let alone a child should have to live like that.... I think these parents should be locked up in a jail cell somewhere and treated exactly how they have treated their child. What person could do that to another? This story makes me wanna cry.

I hate when I hear about stuff like this. I do not understand how a mother can treat her daughter that way. I had the best parents in the world while growing up and cannot even imagine going through something like that. I have a daughter of my own and a son and can't even begin to think I would be capable of doing something like that. I've read 'a child called it' and it literally made me sick to my stomach. I just can't imagine treating your own child worse then you would treat an animal. Just doesn't make much sense to me.

maybe the mother hates the father of the child so much that it hurts her just by looking at the child. but eventhough she hates the father of the child, still she should not blame the child. the child is innocent. he/she should not be blamed of the wrongdoings of his/her parents
