Do you cook things that you do not like to eat, or only things that you yourself will eat? I do cook things that i dont like but my family does but not very often. I figure if I'm the one cooking it then I should be the one enjoying it also. this goes the same for me cooking things that my family doesnt like but I do. I do try and be kind and make another dish that the family will enjoy when i make the things I like and they dont. What about you?

I do cook things that I don't like or I don't eat. I don't deprive my family to not eat the ones that I don't. I like my family, specially my kids to taste different kinds of meals. But of course, it should be healthy. Happy Holidays! HUGZ!

I have 3 boys and I find it hard to let them eat veggies. What I do is to try different dish everytime I prepare meals for them.

I agree! I just wish my kids would at least try something new. It seems it was easier when they were younger...LOL I feel they are missing out on so much good food. My son especially doesnt like most veggis. So unhealthy not to eat veggis!

The saying in my home is: "Just because you like it doesn't mean that I do. I will prepare it for you and make myself something else: the same goes for making something that I like and you don't. All I ask is that we each try at least a bite each time to see if we like it now." As a Mom of a 5 yr old that is not a fussy eater, I do not come across this a lot. But when dealing with cooking issues for in daycare or private homes, there are many times that I will cook something that I do not like: the good thing is that I usually do not eat at work and if I do then a sandwich will do. Happy Holidays!

That is a very good saying! I find also that when one says they dont like it the others will too without even trying it. That really upsets me. I am thinking that I should make a list of everyones likes and maybe look up some dishes that we would all enjoy. Its just nice to have at least one dinner where everyone is sitting there enjoying their food.

Well, I only cook for my husband and myself, so I usually cook the food that both of us like to eat, as I usually prepare two dishes only. Sometimes, I do cook lady fingers which my husband doesn't like to eat.

There is going to come a day when it is just my husband and I at home. i need to keep this in mind. I might even miss those picky eaters at dinner...LOL I think the key to my happy dinner is to make at least one dish to go with the main course that I know they will enjoy.

hi my dear friend, yes i cook things that i dont eat and the reason is because i live in a joined family and have to cook according to everyone's liking. i dont cook non veg . my in laws are all non vegetarians but if they wanna have something they either buy or order it from out or if my hubby is in a mood to cook , he cooks it. at that time i cook what i love to eat, and jusat for me, otherwise its a mutual decision, not just what i want or what they want.

That is nice when someone helps out. Gives you more variety and also a break! I just need to find a happy medium where everyone is happy which has been difficult lately.

Try to make at least one dish you can enjoy everyday. Don't torture yourself like that. Life is too short.

Thanks! I think I need to remember this..after all it is only dinner. Noone is going to starve, they can find something they like or make a sandwich themselves. I need to learn I cannot make EVERYONE happy ALL the time!

I cook things that I do not like to eat all of the time. I really do not like what my husband likes and he does not like what I like. I do not eat steak, but he loves steak, he is not crazy about chicken, but I have gotten him to eat it more. He likes white clam sauce on his spaghetti and I like red sauce. so, for the most part I am always cooking something I do not like or eat.

Hi Mzplased, I do that. There are only 2 of us, my husband and I; most of the time, I cook dishes that he likes. He enjoys soup with pork bones, fish and some sort of green beans - all of which I either skip or eat a bit only.

I think that if there was one person I want to please at dinner, it would be my husband too. Thankfully he seems to like the things that I enjoy also. He loves meatloaf, i dont care for it but will tolerate it and eat alittle of it. i feel I have to set a good example. There are some fish that he likes that I dont. i cook it but dont eat it. i did try it though one day but I just didnt like it.

Yes, I think that a good way fo thinking. Why would I cook something when its just going to get wasted anyway. That is what happens alot. I think too, that maybe I could make a weekly menu and have everyone decide if that would be something they would like. Or if they even will be home to eat it. I have been freezing leftovers too. But when there is leftovers its because the others didnt enjoy their meal...LOL

Hi friend,I love many items in food which my family do not like.So I never cook food which they dont like.Certainly they would be grumbling and will not eat properly ,so better to cook what they like. When I have to cook only for me I cook which I like.Sometimes my husband would go out of station and my daughter to school and she packs her lunch. So I would be left alone for lunch and I cook whatever I want. When I go to my mom's place she cooks for my what I like .So I eat there too. thanks for sharing.happy mylotting.

I think that is a way of thinking that I should keep in mind. Afterall my family is growing up and will soon be all out of the house. There will be plenty of time for me to cook the things I like. I also think maybe i can get the kids to maybe prepare some dishes they like. That way I get a break and they get to eat what they want and get some experience in the kitchen themselves. Thanks my friend!

I'm lazy too to cook. Thats why when i do prepare something it angers me that they will not even try it. I get home from work I'm tired, and I think "why did I even bother to cook for them" when they wont even eat it. My son sees one onion in his food and he wont touch it! Grrrrrr!

Maybe thats what i need...to be a bit more creative. Even if I made a few dishes that I know they like and add it to the meal..then it would make mealtime less stressful. Geez...why didnt I think of this sooner...LOL I think that just might work!

i can't remember cooking something that i do not like to eat. it's like i am not motivated to do so because i know i don't want to eat it. but, if i really am forced to do so..., i'd do it for my loved ones only.... or for business.. lol!

Thats true! I guess I wouldnt want food pushed onto me that i dont like. But at the same time, maybe if I tried something new I would find I enjoy it. it has happened to me. I just hink I should set a rule that they at least have to try a good spoonful of it before they decide its not for them.

I usually always cook things that I do not like. I am a very picky eater and really don't like much of anything. There are six people in my household so dinner is very crazy. Everyone wants something different. I would go crazy if I had to cook six different dishes. So I decide what to cook and if someone doesn't like it they can either have a sandwich or they have to wait until breakfast. That includes me. I let one person pick what they want for dinner each night of the week so it is fair. On the odd night we order take-out. Everyone looks forward to that night. Myself ecspecially.

Dear friend, I do cook what I do not like if others like. More over if those cooks in my cooks what they like then I hope it would be bit not much tasty in my food pattern. But I do cook for others likeness as they have to eat that tasty. Moreover each individual has their own taste and if doing for some it is taste those who consume has to be given much preference.

That is right! Why would I want to cook for someone who doesnt want to eat what I cooked anyway. It would be a waste of time and food. I like getting compliments for the foods I make..especailly my own family. making them happy and keeping them healthy is important. but they also need to learn that sometimes they just need to try something new ;)

mzplased, I think the most important thing is that the family is having a nutritional and balance diet vegetables, meat, fruits, and etc.. They may not like what is being cooked for a particular day but it does not mean that they may not get their favorite eventually. I do not like to spoil any individual in my home and everyone will get to his/her favorite on another day. It will as I am always trying to instill fairness and balance in the family. Cheers.

That is a wonderful way to put it! I need to enforce this with my own family. They are older now, I just wish i would have done soemthing about it earlier. I feel at times I run a resturaunt trying to please everyone. *sigh* But like you said there needs to be fairness and balance :) Thanks!

I would if someone in my family liked something that I did not like. As it is though, I like pretty much everything. I think the only thing that anyone likes in my family that I do not is mustard and horseradish, and they can always add those things to what ever I cook if they like. But I like everything else. So I have never had to cook anything that I do not like, but I would.

Usually my family likes what I like - I'm the cook, so if they want to eat, better like what I do...kidding. From time to time. I make something that I like and they don't - but that's very seldom. Like Ricotta cheese, no one likes, but me. So I buy only for myself and enjoy. Something that I don't like and they do...I can not thing of something like that. I can eat everything.

Oh my goodness I would love for my family to love what i cook. Not that i'm a terrible cook (I dont think i am anyway..LOL) But I have some picky eaters. They are not little kids anymore either. goulash is something my husband and I like but none of them will eat it. I seems lately that I'm making 2 seperate meals a night. I told my husband I'm not doing it anymore...so i guess they will need to learn to cook! LOL I Like Ricotta cheese too.

It is nice to know that I am not alone. i didnt think I was, but was just wondering if people only cooked what they liked. Wouldnt it be great if everyone liked the same foods. i guess it would get pretty boring though woulnt it, eating the same things.
