It was at my favorite little kids school (Elementary School Building) and it was 5th grade. They spent their day being helpful and sweet. At the end, I think we were all getting a little tired and cranky, but then the bus came and took them away. Lots of interesting work to do. Creating post cards for English, learning the orders of operations for math, discussing and learning about family histories and stories passed down in families- about not only family members, but friends of the family,too- for social studies, learning about the periodic table for science, and studying the Christmas Carol for reading as well as practicing for a play plus various projects and silent reading. The other teacher came over and helped me find everything at the start of the day and anything else I needed to find the students helped. They were sooo cute practicing, they were adorable!

Good for you! Working with kids is pretty great. I coached youth basketball for 222 years and I always enjoyed working with the kids even though they could be a little hard to handle sometimes. Isn't there some unwritten rule that kids have to give the sub a hard time? LOL, I am glad you finally had a good day with it.

Oh great ancient one! Ha, ha! There's giving a sub a hard time and wanting to pack up and go home. Two different things. Thanks and take care.

Oh, writersedge, this sounds like such a fun day! I would think that substitute teaching is pretty tough, going in with no real class prep. Ooooh, I don't think I'd wanna do that! But it sounds like you had quite a productive and interesting day with alot of fun students. Very cool.

Yes, that was a lovely day and today was great, too. Stay tuned, I feel more subbing topics coming. It's not just the lack of prep, it's the not knowing the students, the schedules, how things work, etc. and having some really cool stuff on the topic at home or on the internet that I could have brought in.

I'm sure they are sweet and adorable. Newspapers everywhere so the paints don't go all over are a good idea. Take care.

You write such sweet comments about the kids you taught the other day. How caring you are and understanding. Fifth grade is a cute age. It's when the kids reach junior high, about 13, when hormones beging to work overtime and cause problems. Good to hear you are teaching grade school level. It's so nice to hear good stories from a teacher who likes her job. Continued much success for the balance of this school year and onto the next year.

I'm soooo much happier with little kids. Sometimes I have gotten really interesting teenage classes, too. Yes, up here, middle school and high school are really, really hard to deal with. Thanks and take care.

Sounds like fun, I can't wait until I have days like that...Though I would probably do better with younger kids, but at this point, I would take anything..

4th and 5th grade kids can be very good and they know how to do so many things. The periodic table used to be in 10th grade chemistry and order of operations used to be 9th grade algebra. So these kids have to pay attention. I can't believe what they're teaching in elementary school now. I'm crossing my fingers for you, I hope you can get work, too. Take care and thanks.
