Should Rick Warren be giving the opening prayer at the Presidential Inauguration? Should there even be a prayer given? I have my thoughts and will give them later...for now I want to see what other people think. Rhonda

Yes, a prayer, to God, should be given, and it should be given by a Christian whether it be Rick Warren or someone else. This nation was founded on Christian principles and as a nation we have abandoned those principles and it is why we are experiencing so many problems; economically, socially, and morally. We will not solve our problems either as individuals or as a nation through human effort alone. Only God can heal our nation but he will only do that when we give up on our own feeble efforts and turn to him. II Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

I read lots of book of rick warren and I should say He is really a man of God...Theres nothing wrong with him giving the opening prayer, I think it will be a very sincere prayer as I know he is really a sincere God fearing man...And yeah God even said in his words that if a Nation will come into prayer and ask for mighty help, I will surely hear and bless that Nation.. For that I know in this time of crisis, Join prayer leading by a good pastor Like Rick Warren is all that America needs. Not only America but us all.

WHY NOT?? someone should offer a prayer. I remember when Bill Clinton was getting in, he had an interfaith service and he had clergy of all faiths there and they each gave a prayer at the service. I don't see why not. A prayer won't hurt him none and he could use it.

Well my real question here is this...is it really any of anyone else's business who Obama chose to pray at his inauguration? As much as I hate that he won in the first place, I will say this. It is nobody's business but his own who he chooses to pray at the event. This is, in fact, HIS inauguration. When all these people who are pissing and moaning about this get elected president, they can choose whomever they want to pray at their own inauguration service. In the meantime, they need to just shut up and let the man enjoy his moment...

Everyone wants their traditions respected and, personally, it irritates me when the traditions of the United States are challanged or argued about as being suddenly unfair. The U.S. was founded by Christians. Yes, we are a diverse country now but the prayer that starts not only the Inauguration, but also sporting events around the country, are traditional and no one person or one group should have the right to affect change in that area. Having said that, I have no proble with Rick Warren saying a prayer. It's a prayer...not a political speech...and his political views have nothing to do with his ability to say a prayer.
