Well, I have the holidays blues. As so many people in the United States, I got laid off of work. And I am having trouble founding a job. To top that off, I did not work long enought to get unemployment, so I am living on my child support. A hole $44 a week. I love my kids but there not going to be christmas in my house. My family is all mad at me, cause i dont have the holiday spirit. And I dont want to celabrate christmas. Am I wrong for this?

Hi there sammy, I see you are new to Mylot! Welcome, I hope you enjoy yourself here. There is a lot of hype around the Holidays and it is marketed as a happy and joyous season and as you have pointed out, this is just not the case for some, perhaps, even most of us. So, no you're not the first person to develop a case of the holiday blues (nor are you alone), many people feel overwhelmed by the things they feel they have to do, fear that they will not have enough time, stress over having everything perfect, or about having family present among many other things. For me, the trick to surviving the holiday season is to try to keep it all in perspective. For me, this means not setting up high expectations, or wanting things a certain way. I try to lower the importance of a holiday so that I will not be disappointed if things do not go as planned. I try to be just in the moment, and remember to have fun and enjoy myself and laugh with my friends and family. It is definitely OK to not be upbeat and joyous in the holiday season. Although everyone is encouraged to put on a happy face many are struggling, be it with money or the loss of a loved one. The holidays often remind us of the people we have lost. I think it is best for me to take time and realize that I am sad or frustrated during the holidays instead of pretending to be happy and upbeat! That's just my 2ยข worth!

When my children were young we were often in this same situation during the holidays. We survived it and you can to. I know that doesn't help much but on the brighter side there are groups and agencies that are geared up to help families in your position. These groups practice more charity at this time of year than at any other time. Don't let pride stand in your way. Let them help and you will get back on your feet.

I have sign up for the charities, so my youngest can get some gifts. But, I live in one of the states that have the worst jobs down falls. Been watching tv, and so many charities are saying that they may not have enough gifts to go around for the ones that need it.

It has been my experience that they always say they might not have enough but when it comes down to it they always manage somehow. Don't despair. The one thing about being on the bottom is there is only one way to go and that's up. Things will get better for you.

Welcome to MyLot!! I understand you feeling this way. Have you tried getting help from a local church or program in your area? Can you get help from welfare? Like in foodstamps? Also try freecycle or craigslist to see what you can get for free? I have always loved Christmas. Thsi year my kids are getting three thinsg this year. That is it. One out fit and two toys. My teen he will just get some cash and thats it. I don't even have enough for a stocking. But thats okay gifts don't make Christmas...being with family (My kids and I)and remembering what Christmas is all about is what we are doing this year. I will be celebrating my saviors Jesus birthday. Not Santa Claus, as my kids don't believe in him anyways. Good luck!!
