I often wonder how mylot categorized discussions that goes to these two columns. Doesn't that mean the same to you? The discussion is top because it is a hot discussion and catchy enough to get instant responses from mylotters. But often I find that the same discussion goes to the top and hot discussions at the same time. While some landed on the top column but not found in the hot column. I had my discussion in the top discussion yesterday but only for a short time, it disappeared as fast as it landed on there and this morning when I came to mylot there I find it again in the hot column. I am puzzle how this works. Can anyone enlighten me on how it works.

I think both are more or less the same thing. Discussions which go into the 'hot' category are quite often those, which are being responded again and again on a particular day. Top discussions includes those discussions, which mylot considers are worth giving attention by us. I have also observed that some of the discussions got repeated in both the category. The crux of the matter is that we should continue to remain glued to mylot through various categories of discussions.....LOL!

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji, I too am at a large to grasp chronological way of matching my way o arrive at exactly, what ways myLot follows to decide, but I think, if such discussions, which appear as 'top & hot' may be considered as beyound BR and given some more ratings by myLot in a ways to increase their rating, so that discussions will be more healthy. But I am very much impessed by your visualising the matter, as I do not find any much time ti devote on these matters. I am not able to completre respond and make comments, whatever are pending in my Alerts. I appriciate your way of doing myLotting. may God bess You and have a great time.

It is just out of curiosity as hot and top have quite similar meaning.

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji, Both look similar in meaning, but I think, before anything rides to 'Top' has to go through step of 'Hot' or is it vice versa. So i am really confused about both. What creteria myLot follows, I have not come across. But it does not make any hue and cry so long it occupies its place as per its merits. may God bless and have a great time.

i can still remember that the ones wchich get to the top discussion list are those which get fast 4 responses within just a few minutes after having been posted. since the rules may have been changed, what i know may no longer be that true. as for the timeframe, i may not be able to recall it right anymore but it seems like 30 minutes. i used to be very particular about learning this thing. now, though, i am no longer so anxious about it. it is easy to see why. i have been a long time absentee. this easily pinpoints for having forgotten the timeframe target. as for how a discussion gets to the hot criteria, i should say that even if a discussion did not manage to get to the top discussion list but picks up so many responses within the day, it deserves still to be given credit for having had caught the attention and the responses of so many mylotters, so it gets to the hot list. since what usually gets the most responses are also those which had fast pick up responses, this explains why most of us will see that what's in the top hit list can also be found in the hot list.

You have given a detailed output here and which really makes sense how some discussions landed in these two columns.

i don't have any idea how it works but as for me it seems to me what's hot is what's top...what you see on hot topics is what you see on top discussions..i can also see that those that got the highest number of response are those who's on top and hot...i also believe that if your discussion itself got rated it will be on the top discussion..i don't know if any of those i assume are true

It is still puzzling but maybe it is the speed of how fast that post get responses and the number of responses received within certain time determine the fate of any particular post. But it is also with the help of the moderators who play a role in their promo of a particular post. Like putting it in the digest, it gets wider exposure and naturally will command better responses.

i gues hot is the most well known topic and the top is the most who replied the discussions.

If yo refsh the opage every 15 minutes or so you'll notice those lists update giving all discussions a shot at the top lists. I've seen discussions with 0 responses make those loists. How they determine the ones in those lists is beyond me. The only thing I am sure of is the daily digest lists the top ten discussions according to amount of responses. That's the only certainty I know of as far as hot, top etc topicas. HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

hi grandpa Bob, thank you for the explanation. I have not seen yet that with 0 response go to the top list. I guess there might be other criteria that mylot is looking at in a discussion that warrant a discussion to be in the top discussion.

I honestly have no idea what the difference is between the two. I hope someone can explain it to us.
