I Like M.C.Beaton's "Cozy Mysteries" But Looking For New Similar Mystery Author

Hi, I like M.C. Beaton's "cozy mystery" series that feature the characters Hamish McBeth and Agatha Raisin. The "cozy mystery" is more about the characters and place, with some plot, but I've read all of M.C. Beaton's books, plus Agatha Christies and other such authors. Can anyone suggest any new mystery authors who write along these lines...the small villages, some humor, same characters in several books, etc.? Thanks.

If you haven't read P.D. James and her Adam Dalgleish mysteries I would recommend them. She is actually a writer as opposed to an entertainer who writes. Set in England, so they fit with the reading you have mentioned. I must admit I also enjoy the Reginald Hill books, Dalziell and Pascoe of the TV series, but you've probably read them anyway, and they are more on the plot side than the characterisation and place, although well written for all that. Hi, Yes, thanks. I actually like P.D. James and have read many of her books. However, I haven't read the Reginald Hill books and don't really know about that TV series, so I'll look for those. I like the cozy mysteries the best, but any mystery well written is always a joy for me and I love to find authors that I don't know about already. Thanks so much for your information. Have a great day.

I'm a fan of the cozies also and I've read a number of the MC Beaton books which I enjoy. But myy favorite mystery writer is Jane Haddon who does the Gregor Demarkian mysteries which are set in a large city (Philadelphia) but I think of the books in the series as being cozies. Philadelphia is a city of neighborhoods which have almost a small town feel. Haddon understands this and her crime solving characters live in an area that reminds me of the Art Museum area of Philadelphia. Also, cast of characters who appear in each tale are endearing and you really get attached to them. It's a great series of mysteries.

Oh, those sound really great. I'll check them out as soon as I can. I'm sure I'll enjoy them and I love finding out about new authors that I don't already know about. I like Gillian Roberts mystery series set in Philadelphia for the same reason and I love Janet Evanovich, not only for the humor and the ongoing characters, but because they're set in the "burgs" of New Jersey. So this sounds right up my alley. Thanks so much. Have a great week and nice holiday.
