Is life imprisonment for murderers really worth our millions of tax dollars?

I'm sure this subject has come up before, but I haven't seen it recently so here goes. What is your take on the death penalty? Do you think it should or should not exist? Why or why not? As for me, I believe that the death penalty should exist and should be the only sentence for a proven guilty murderer. However, I also acknowledge that sometimes innocent people are convicted of crimes they did not commit. I believe this is due to faulty investigations though, and that every investigation into any crime should be proven not only beyond a shadow of a doubt, but additional steps taken to ensure an accurate conviction to minimize and/or eliminate innocent people being convicted. I believe that giving a murderer life imprisonment is too good for them. people talk about human rights, but I believe once you void a person's human rights by killing them, you have voided your own. We are wasting our tax money by feeding, housing, and clothing those types of people. I also believe that letting them sit in prison on death row for 20 years is utterly ridiculous. If they've been convicted of murder, they are a waste of money and resources taht could be going to other things. For example, if we executed the murderers, who as I said have vioded their human rights, we'd have more money to devote to investigations and such to ensure that they really do get the right person. If I could have my way, the same would apply to confirmed rapists as well, but I'd settle for it with murderers. Also, if they put less money and resources to feeding housing and clothing murderers, there'd be more money to help the poverty stricken and those receiving social security benefits due to disability or age or whatever, and all the food that is used to feed them should be used to feed starving children and people who are on the streets. So, as a general rule, I think that murderers should all receive the death penalty and not wait 2 decades to get it, and investigations need to have more resources devoted to them to ensure they are executing the right person. Let the murderers die for their crime!

I completely agree with you. These guys in prison get a better life than some of the law abiding citizens in our nation. They get 3 meals a day, which is more than many of us can say. They get an education for free. It's a cake walk for some of them. And the tax payers are paying for all this. I'd rather be paying for law abiding citizens to get on the Welfare system to help support themselves than pay for these murderers and rapists to live for 25 years in prison. They should do away with the life sentances, and just give them lethal injection when proven guilty beyond a doubt. And yeah, make it quick!

And they get to spend 23 hours a day in the same room. And they get to defecate next to where they sleep. They also get contact with the world limited to a monthly visit if somebody chooses to go and see them! These criminals really are living like kings aren't they.

No actually most of them, unless they're in a high security prison or something, get to roam around the grounds, so long as they do not leave the prison. They can go outside and play basketball or any number of sports. They can sit in a lounge and watch TV. They can also use the phone as often as they'd like, and they can have visitors as often as they like, not just once a month. They just have to follow specific rules such as no visitors after 8pm or something like that. That's more than these criminals deserve. Far more than they deserve.

Man do you think executing a murderer is really just for the man who was killed or for his family? I think this is a way to get him off quick. I would want murderers to be kept in prison for life and to work hard for their meal (so honest citizens don't have to pay for them) and not have any conditions like tv and such. I think this would be true justice not letting them get off easy, dyeing is easy.

My dad had a friend who did not wanted to work and was sick of living hard. He did something bad and went to jail saying "well fellas I'm getting three square meals a day so good luck" that's just sick. These guys are breaking the law and are getting away with it. But not everyone on life sentence stays there forever they have this white list that if you have improved extremely well then you are out and these guys come out really good and move on to be pastors and stuff. So it's not all bad. It's just that the white list only consists of about 100 men but it's still alright.
