I believe it is great that Rick Warren is giving the prayer at Obama's inageration coming up in January. With Obama being seemingly very liberal it seems strange though that he leaning to someone whom I assume is very conservtive. Here is something to think about. Is Obama turning conservative, and did he play the left just to get the liberal vote knowing that he would move to the center after getting elected. Is he trying to appease the right by moving to the center.Or is he going to be an awesome president that is looking out for us?

I believe Obama is a liberal through and through, but he's probably realizing that you have to make compromises at times. I don't think he chose Rick Warren for any other reason than he likes the man. You may not believe it, considering our current political climate base on the media's take, but democrats and republicans can like each other even when they don't agree politically.

I agree totally. I guess it's really a unique concept that two people with opposite views on some of the issues could actually still like and respect each other and focus on the things they do have in common. Annie

For one thing, I've never thought Obama was all that liberal. I guess "liberal" is a very subjective term because I realize to some conservatives he's as far left as you can get but compared to true liberals in other countries he's not even close! I do think he realizes the country as a whole is more in the center and I think he's not trying to "appease" anyone but he's starting from the beginning to show he wants to unite us and to prove he intends to be everyone's President, not just those who supported and voted for him. I think that's pretty awesome! Annie

I believe Obama will use the experiences of his past to guide him in leading the country. I am sure he has experienced lots of division and will try to heal it now that he is in a position to do something about it. He will have to focus on what is right and good for the country as a whole if he is successful in healing our rifes. He will serve all of us as well as he can.

Gotta agree with anniepa: Obama is progressive, but he's not all that liberal--certainly not in the academic sense of the word. Our politicians love to toss around labels, even when (sometimes "especially" when) they are not truly appropriate. There are a number of right-leaning "think tanks" and opinion factories that make a habit of branding anyone to the left of Barry Goldwater as liberal. Indeed, by the time he left this earthly sphere, even Goldwater's credentials as a conservative were held suspect. I think that what Obama is doing with Warren is reaching out beyond labels, and I applaud that. I'm not in agreement with Warren's position toward gays and their committed relationships, but he is the type of individual with whom I can disagree without being disagreeable. That, too, is a lesson needed in Washington.

I don't know, I guess he didn't want to pick anybody like his last pastor. I don't know why you would think that just because he chose Rick Warren he might be a conservative LOL. Democrats can be Christians too!
