Do you ever just read through an interesting discussion, but not participate?

I will. I find many interesting enough to just scroll through and read without having to respond. It may be a waste of time (and money :)) but sometimes I just like to see what other people are talking (writing) about instead of having to get involved. How about you? Do you ever just scroll and read?

Yeah, I find myself doing that all of the time. It is really interesting to read other people's thoughts and opinions on things. Sometimes I will read an opinion that is so close to my own that there is no point adding mine to the discussion.

Exactly, when that happens, why post? I almost want to add "I was thinking the exact same thing", but why?

Yeah, that is another time that I will read through and not reply... if a dozen people have already said exactly what I was going to say then what is the point?

I have done it although I do not like to do that because it usually means that the discussion has inspired a snotty and sarcastic reply, and I am trying to break that habit, hahaha.

You must be breaking that habit, because everytime I have read something of yours, it's not snotty and sarcastic. :)

It makes total sense to me, mine problem is verbalizing my thoughts, I will tend to stick my foot in my mouth often because my thoughts get jumbled from my head to my tongue!

I do that lots. I find a good discussion that perhaps I don't have anything to add, but enjoy reading the entire discussion. I've been known to go through many pages just to see how people have responded to the discussion.

Same here. I am guilty of reading ridiculous discussions as well as intelligent ones, just out of pure 'I can't believe someone is talking about this' type thing.

I ran across a discussion today where a link had been given for a discussion where the person was flaming everyone. This person had asked for opinions, but had something mean to say to everyone who gave an opinion, saying they were flaming this person. Man, it got complicated and a long discussion. Those are the kind you definitely stay away from. If I want opinions, I should be able to stand whatever I get and not attack the people giving their opinions, considering we all have them.

Then it was meant for you to respond! I love when you are thinking about soemthing and it pops up on the TV or computer, or when you say a phrase and someone on the television will say the exact same thing!

Yes, I sometimes do. Especially if it's not a familiar subject, I read through what people have to say the first time. Do a bit of research if necessary before I actually contribute if there's anything I wanted to say.

When I was on the answers sight, a couple times I would answer a question by doing research (on top of what I already knew) and then I would copy and paste it in 'Word' and then edit it and place it on the website, that is cheating! It was like I wasn't confidant with my own knowledge or something.

Oh yes!! Many times I read and rate but not respond. I like to read the opinions of others. It gives me great insight and knowledge. Sometimes, I am just curious to see the responses of others.

Yes, same here. I was just doing it earlier today. I know I will make more if I respond, but reading is good too. Wouldn't it be cool if mylot could pay us for just that? If so I'd be rich! Well, not rich, but you know?

Hello KaMlBob! There are instances hen I just go over discussions here on myLot but do not respond to them. Yes, I do not necessarily respond to the discussions I read on myLot. There are those that are really very interesting enough. But there are times when I just read them and do not have responses for them. I must admit though that I do learn a lot from these discussions.

Yes, same here. Some are or can be educating, some discussions border ridiculous at times and that too sparks my interest, maybe I am bored!

Same here, it may be interesting or I may just not be knowledgeable in the area, but interested in the subject, so I know not what to say!

Most of the time, I respond to the discussions that interest me rather than just reading the whole discussion because I also want to share my insights and points of view about the topic. That is the reason why I like mylot because we all have the right to say what we want to.

When I respond to discussions that many people have answered to, I will tend to not read what everyone has said, because that is REALLY time consuming, but am always in hopes that I didn't repeat what someone else has said, so as to not look like I am plagerizing them.

I do this all the time as I love to read everything. Sometimes I go to reply but I find I really have nothing to say that interests me. It does waste time but it does not matter as it is nice just to know what others are saying.

Ditto here, sometimes I will really waste time and type out a whole paragraph and then decide it's stupid and just delete it! :)

I usually read the discussion is about and then if it's interesting, or might not be interesting I'll probably respond either way, aha. Usually I also want to see if anybody responded because what I might be saying could of already been said, so then I would've been saying the same thing somebody else did, so then what I said wouldn't of been a good response since somebody already wrote it.

Yes, I know what you mean about responding with the same answer, I do the same too at times. Unless it's an answer that requires a personal experience, then it can't be the same. Answer personal questions is easier for me also.
