Now, I seldom go shopping at Target, but I got $60 in gift cards from family so I had to go use them.
So, its kind of late, between 8-9 at night, the roomie and I got on carts and we go rolling around the store.
First we stop in the "one spot" that now has become more of a $2.50 spot, and the roomie found these little glasses. The one she picked up had fish, but the next bunch over have jungle animals. I ask for one of those.
I see the Valentine cards out and think "hummm, need one for mom" so I go looking for a card.
Well, most are either romantic or for "mom and dad" or whatever. I'm looking and then I find one that has a giraffe on it. If you punch a button, little lights in its spots go off.
Well, it might not be perfect for most moms, but its perfect for me to give MY mom.
Then, cruising around some more I find a twin bed in a bag, and think - I need this - so I grabbed it. Then, over in the toy section I found a toy giraffe.
Now, I'm thinking to myself, I'm really close to that $60 and I don't want to go over, so, I tell the roomie I think we've done it.
So, off we roll to check out.
I put my stuff on the check out and line it up and put the bed in a bag behind the other 3 items.
I then ask the checker if she sees a theme?
She looks at my stuff and says: "giraffes"
We laughed.
We laughed even harder when the total was $60.05! I fished a nickel out of my pocket and took back the one gift card because it was one of those rolling maze toys.
I felt I did very well.
Have you ever gone in and nailed a gift card (or 2 as in this case) quite that well?

So, who has a giraffe obsession then? lol.
Late night shopping can be a lot easier than during the day. Just a shame that I have to haul a baby around with me 24/7! lol.
Very nice mental calculations to get that close to the total. I'm hopeless when it comes to things like that!

That is one thing we don't have to worry about in Australia. All prices must include any taxes so that shoppers don't have to do the math themselves. Then again, that's allowing our brains to turn to mush!

I sounds like you had such a great time on your Target wheel around. I think you did well with you purchases.
It has been a long time since I got a gift card so I have not tried to get it to the penny.
I hope your mom likes her card. Are you going to give the giraffe to her or keep it for your self.

Thanks for clearing that up. I knew the card was for her but I was not sure who was going to get the giraffe you to go with your new bed set or give it to mom.

yes I am usually a good shopper but I hardly get out any more because I am disabled, I really want to try to get out in the summer more this year, and not be stuck to the computer so much.

Hi ElicBxn,
Glad you had a lovely time shopping, I have not gone shopping like that for some time as money is so tight at the moment after Christmas and birthdays are around the corner so need to save to buy some gifts.

I've never done that with gift cards but many a time I've gone to the checkout and found my purchases totaled up to an even dollar.

Bulk Barn used to issue $3.00 coupons on purchases over $10, so I'd go and do my staples shopping at Bulk Barn and almost always managed to get just pennies over $13 worth of stuff. Not bad, considering you really can't tell how much something will cost until you get to the checkout. Now, they rarely issue these coupons, and the one closest to me moved farther away, so I haven't managed to pull this off for awhile.

Oh yes, and I did what you did. I bought gifts. I bought my brother a bedsheet set, he needed one. It was a 20$ cert. and with tax, it was 8 cents over.

Wow! You did good! I only went over by $2.00 so I was happy with that. Only bought one item though, haha.
This must have felt like you were Christmas shopping again..fun fun. Sounds like your Mom will be quite happy with the giraff. My bathroom had sort of a Jungle theme to it once and I remember the giraffes on the shower curtains. It was black and white and very pretty I must say. That was a fun decorating project for me, it really looked good and I received many compliments on it.
