over the counter drugs may not be as safe as people think, just because it is over the counter does not mean if taken in large quantities it could not seriously harm you. check out http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1385716/what_you_should_know_about_tylenol.html?cat=5 to learn about how acetamenophin and what can happen check out the above link. Now for the discussion do you use a lot of over the counter drugs, did you know that mixing drugs could be harmful, did you know the recommended dosage of acetamenophen means from all sources, not just on the bottle of tylenol?

I am always amazed that many people tend to overdose or over do many things with the concept that if 1 of something is good then 2, 3, or 4 of them must be better.

I've always known that tylenol if taken in large doses or for prolonged use could cause damage to your liver. I hate taking anything but I do need help for headache some time and I do use tylenol extra strengh.

I don't like to take many medications really whether they be over the counter or prescription When I am told I have to take this or that I ask if there is a alternative way like trying other ways first. I do take take a Ibuprofen that are 200 mg each and I take 2-3 depending on pain level. If I have a cold I will take cold medications or honey and vinegar. But that is basically the extent of my medication taking right now.

I know several people who have permanent liver damage because they did not take OTC meds properly. I will try anything I can before using them. A hot shower is good for a headache because it opens up the blood vessels that are constricting and causing the pain.

I do know some of this, yes. I always check with the pharmacist. It is important to be aware and they are up to date. I am always reading a label too and I think that is important and alot of people don't.

true as soon as the Doc gave my hubby morphine that was the last of him for he ordered 30 mg instead of 10 like the lowtabs were. HUbby took one and next morning I couldnt even get him to take water and he was all wet! had to have someone hold him up while I changed his clothes and he sure moaned so I know that was hurting him went in to the hospital went into coma and never came out of it.

I never get medicine over thecounter. I always stick rigourously to the doctor;s advice. I know that if the medicine are used without the doctors advice, one can suffer and have repercussions. thanks for posting the article.

Thanks, it is a great article, well written and accurate. I get aggravated when people read things then do not verify them as accurate and scare people with stuff like that. At one time, it was believed that Tylenol was the only medication that did not interact with other meds - now we know that this is no longer true. We also know that anything can be poisonous -- until not too long ago most people never heard of water toxicity. It is always important to read all labels and know what medical problems you have and the meds that may interact with each other. At one time I was taking a large number of meds, I actually made up a chart with them all and the possible side effects and the interactions, I was getting medications for stomach problems that had a side effect of stomach pain -- duh...what genius approved that one. Well 2 of my meds were causing the stomach problems, when I switched to other meds, the problem went away. We must be educated consumers and our own advocates for our health.

Morning, winterose, I take very little OTC's, am still lucky enough that I require very few! Am a believer in the 81mcg of Aspirin daily....but did get myself in a little trouble this Christmas when I broke my hip. Was taking Robaxacet Silver for pain, and I ended up with extreme stomache pain! Thank you for the great link, and you are so right, all should be cautious of OTC's! Hope your weather is improving!

Forgot to add, quite a few years ago, I was suffering from grand mal seizures brought on by undue stress! Post ichtal state of grand mal seizures is fierce head-aches....so Tylenol seemed to be the order of the day! After getting into a state where the seizures were frequent, I found out of the "neurologist" that Tylenol is TOTALLY contraindicated for those experiencing seizures! Who would have thought! P.S. How are you these days?

I hate meds and as long as I am still able to walk, talk and eat I dont use them even paracetamol. Dont take vitamins dont take anything that I dont need and I am above average with all my blood tests. Expecialy now with the pregnancy I dont see why I should use things that are not safe (and lets face it nothing is safe) and unnecesary. My iron and folite are great better then expected of pregnant women my doctor told me to take them anyway like hell I will. I took vitamins with my son and all his teeth came out with a white line on them that we had to fix under general anastetic when he was 2.

Thanks for the information that your shared here. About me I'm not that type of person who take right away any medicines when I have any pains unless if I can't take it anymore. So that would be time.
