Screen names

I am curious as to how people choose their screen names. I would think that a lot of time people choose something as an expression for what they are all about. That is how I chose mine. May be, though, some people pick the first thing that comes into their heads, or there initials or something like that. I look at screen names sort of like the way I look at personalized license plates. Some are easy to figure out, others not so easy. Do people always use the same screen name for everything that requires one or do they change it to fit their mood.

I use my screen name for everything. Any website I belong to, I've used this screen name. I've had it for years. It actually started as a joke. I used to use the world Always along with some numbers that represented mine and my son's birthday. Always was a special word to me because the first 3 letters ALW were my initials before I got married. My mom and I were both on AOL, and she liked to go into the chat rooms. So one day I decided I'd create this new name to go spy on her in the chat room, as a joke. I left some of the numbers the same... 12.. 13, that represents the day of the month our birthdays fall on. Mine's the 12th, my son's is the 13th. So I went in the room and chatted with my mom and she never figured out it was me until I started dropping hints. I kept using the name Always for awhile, but eventually I completely switched over to using this one. Now I haven't used Always in years.

Very interesing comments. I, of course, like your screen name because I love cats! I think this will turn out to be an interesting topic and I am looking forward to reading more about what people have to say as to why they have chosen their screen name. Funny story about your mom, hee, hee.

Your name reminds me a bit of my moms. She loved cats as well. Her screen name was CarolMamaCat. Carol was obviously her first name.

Hello my friend. Funny you should respond to this post. I have wondered about your screen name and whether it was your name or not. Just a curiosity. Now I know it is "fictional". Very interesting. Thanks for the revelation!

I use many screen names most of which have nothing to do with my actual name. When I first started doing more on the Internet, I chose a few screen names that had something to do with my name but as I got more paranoid about hackers and started doing financial related stuff over the Internet, I started choosing names that had nothing to do with my actual name. Most of my screen names are related to my avatar here or to my screen name here in some way but not all of them. In some cases I felt I needed to isolate my screen name at some sites from anything I had used before.

I use my original name as the screen name because i love my name many people choose their screen name just to hide their identity from the outer world. Some choose their screen name as such that the screen name reflects their character.

Hi, the screen name is a combination of my b/f and myself like our movie blog name reflects both of us. We are similar in out beliefs though I am more outspoken. That cat looks like a cat I once had. My b/f's nickname for me is "kitten" meaning kittens are free spirits and no one like to get mad or stay mad at kittens. My email on the other hand reflects my cats names.

I've used this one for...9 years, lol. It doesn't really mean anything, I was still a kid at the time. But I've stuck with it through the years!

I used the same one for a long time but I got to where I wanted to be more anonymous. Everyone that knows me knew what name I used so I went with something different and it does fit me pretty much. Actually it ended up being a test for my best friend to see if she could find me here. LOL! She did when we both posted to the same topic and me telling her I found her! I have 3 names I normally go by and this is one of them now.

I chose mine based on location. For those in the states it shouldn't be too difficult to figure it out. LOL Sac is short for Sacramento and Mom is because I am a mother of 2 kids. Pretty basic, and not as pretty as some of the usernames out there, but it works for me.

I have used my screen name ever since I first went on line. It represents both my husband and I. We both support Sheffield Wednesday Football Club and have all of our lives. The club is known as the Owls because when they first started the district of the town the club was in was called Owlerton and the team became known as the Owls, hence my screen name - us2owls. I use it for almost everything it is much easier than trying to remember a lot of screen names and signing in with the wrong one on occasion. Since my home is in the USA it could also stand for United States. us2owls it is and us2owls it will remain. Incidently - we are right now in the UK and we went to watch the team play yesterday - they played Charlton Athletic and won 4 - 1 so it made being in the cold worthwhile.

I make up my own screen names. Some of those are from video games and from various animated movies or animated series on television, and then I combine those names to come up up something different. Most of my screen names I use are Japanese inspired names. Though I never researched the meaning of it. There was 1 name that I made up and I was very proud to have made that name. It has a literal meaning to my own personal life, the name I'm using here at mylot, that's the name i invented. :)

My Mylot name is the combination of two things from my life. The 'Darth' part comes from the Star Wars movies, which I am a big fan of. The 'Justice' part comes from me majoring in Criminal Justice in college. So I combined the two and here we are lol.

(hi there momie cat, that cat on your pic looks like my cat ^_^) my screen name is my real name, and i've used it since high school (i'm working now). it's easier to remember, because switching names makes me a little confused (like how switching passwords is also confusing). using my real name also keeps me from saying michievous things over the internet...i'm not really sure why heehee. maybe someday it'll be fun to use a made-up screen name for a while...

Given the choice, I always use the same screen name, which is my first name and the first three letters of my family name. I also use the same avatar, so if you ever come across a BarBaraPrz with the smiley cat avatar somewhere else, it's more than likely me. (Could be my evil twin, but let's hope not!)

I chose my name because I am a single mother. That is who I am, through and through. I use the same username at almost every site that I use.

I used to use a different screen name, but changed it to my current one about 3-4 years ago. I was really into anime at the time, so I went online and looked up my English name (Rachel) in Japanese. The site I went to spouted back "reicheru" but I didn't really like the "e" in the middle, so I changed it to an "i" to make it look better. I've stuck with it since then, unless someone else has already taken the name and I have to tack on numbers at the end of it (I usually like to use 4's, I like the number 4 for some strange reason).
