First ever snowman - The first snowman that my kids have ever made!!

In England where I live we have not had a proper snowfall for a long time, in fact the last proper snowfall was around 18 years ago so it said on the news. That is a long time and considering that my oldest child is now 17 and the youngest is three it means that they have never had the joy of playing in the snow or making a snowman! Well this week we have had quite a lot of snow, not as much as some places in England granted, perhaps only about 2 inches, but enough for my kids to get out and have some fun and build their first proper snowman. So I thought I would share this moment with all my friends here and put a picture on of them with their first snowman!! Do you get snow in your Country? What is the worst snowfall you have ever seen in your lifetime? If you are in England, how much snow did you get?

I'm from central Portugal and it doesn't snow in here.I have only seen snow in the mountains but never did a snowman,so i am actually kind of jealous of your kids, because since i was a kid i was always curious what it's like doing a snowman or even a snowball. As you can see ,the only snowfall i have ever seen, may not be even considered a snowfall, the little it was. Someday i will go to a snowy place and make one!Enjoy the snow and have fun!

We've still got snow here in the Midlands, it snowed again this morning. I made a snow monkey, a snow fish and a snow sheep yesterday, my son doesn't seem to be too bothered about playing out in it, think it's too cold for him. I remember the snow from 18 years ago, I couldn't manage to get to work then as British Rail had 'the wrong type of snow' on the line, my boss didn't believe me, then he heard it on the news and apologised to me!

We did not get anymore, I am in the east midlands area so I think it just missed us, but really I dont think we got as much snow as most areas did anyway. My daughter is not much for it, she hates being cold.

Im sure the kids must have had a whale of a time, and you too must have felt the variety of nature after 18 years. It must be bitter cold there what with snow and all. The snow man looks good with your kids too. I stay in Mumbai in India, where the climate is temperate, with the sea close by. Its never tooooo hot or toooo cold. There are however lots of places in India where it snows a lot, and kids enjoy it. In fact my son just had a vaccation in Kulu Manali where it snows near the Himalayan Mountains. He enjoyed as much as your kids did, Im sure. Enjoy the pros and cons of having snow. Cheers.

That's so cool! I can imagine they had loads of fun making that snowman but I bet they were back inside before you know it because it's darn cold!! lol That's ok, at least they had the chance at making one. Some people have never ever seen snow before so we're lucky to have seen it. The most snow I've seen in my lifetime is when I lived in upstate New York. It's deep! It can reach to about chest high! That's no joke either! I didn't like the cold at all and moved back to Virginia but still, Virginia has really cold winters too and sometimes there's a blizzard and we get about waist high of the white stuff. Sometimes we'll have a lot of ice storms and very little snow..... just depends on the year. I'm further south now where we just barely get a trace of snow.... just the way I like it!! lol

I think the snow is great and have enjoyed being in it though I haven't made a snowman, one of my neighbours have and its still standing. Its a cute little snowman!!! I think they out a plant pot on his head for a hat and gave a carrot for his nose!! We got quite a lot of snow, its still deep where I live only on the grassy areas. I'm glad your children had fun in the snow, especially your 17 year. Must be weird seeing snow for the first time at 17, the young ones you can expect it to be weird for them as they don't understand it.

I I don't really know, I think it was in the 70's when I was still in high school we had a terrible snowstorm and buses wouldn't work and we had such a hard time getting home in school. It was freezing out there. I think a fall about 18 inches is the biggest I have ever seen. (quebec)

I've heard about all the snow England has been getting...some kind of record! We've been having a lot of snow here too. The past few years it was hardly a "winter" at all...fairly mild and no significant snow. Now all of a sudden we've been having snowfall after snowfall and downright COLD. The last really heavy snowstorm I remember was way back around 1996 or so where we had several feet of snow rather than just a few inches...yes, it was that long ago

Yeah it is supposed to be a record, its just a pain in the bum if you ask me.

We don't get very much snow at all anymore but I do remember a few very good snowfalls.. We had snow a couple of days ago, it was a good wet snowfall and most of it melted on the roads the same day but layed in the yards for a few days.. I saw 4 snowmen that were built just on our road only.. It is the first time that I have saw snowmen in quite a few years.. I like it occasionally but not as an every day occurence in Winter.. I think it was almost 60 degrees today and that is just about 3 days after the big snowfall and the temperature getting down to 10 degrees..

I think its funny how everyone rushes to make snowmen in the snow, its never appealed to me if I am honest, not even as a kid!!

All my life growing up I kept hearing about "the blizzard of 72" where apparently we got like 6 feet of snowfall overnight or something like that. It was nuts! Normally we only get up to a foot or two at a time, and we'll have a few good storms during the winter. I think the most that has accumulated in most years is around 3-4 feet. We've got about 3 feet out there right now, but it's not currently snowing. In 1993 we got a blizzard to beat the one of 72. Schools were closed for a full week, and the snow was well over my head. We had snow banks at the end of parking lots that were probably reaching 20 feet tall. Those were loads of fun to play in. I'd pretend I was an Ice Princess and it was my castle. We're lucky though. There's a town about an hour north of me that has litterally gotten 12 feet overnight. They're on the lake though, so are used to bad storms. 3 or 4 feet would feel like a light dusting to them.

I live in the northwest and we get snow fall here every year but usually just enough for a white christmas and then it is done for the year. The kids have enough to make their snowman and play for a few days. This year we had a lot. Not sure how many inches but far more than we usually do.

We have only had about an inch or so at a time here, not really enough to cause too many problems where I live. Even when it is given out bad it usually misses us!

My family in the U.K. says that it is so cold! My sister called me today and we were reminiscing about making snowmen as children. I am so glad that your children got the opportunity to make one. Such a delight for them One Love

It is cold, I have never known it to be this cold for a long time. I have to wear loads of layers to keep warm, my daughter is having problems with her feet which I think is down to the cold weather, its awful and Ive just looked at the weather and it has given out lots more snow for tonight and tomorrow, yay how excited am I? not.

I heard of England snow storm and wish your kid enjoys the snow! For me snow has been around every single winter. In early days it was normal to have 2 meters deep snow. In such days before going to school my dad was sweeping footpath early in the morning so we kids can climb to the school! :) I think I made my first snowman when I was 1 years old, of course with my mum's & dad's help.

They have enjoyed it, but not to the extent I though they would. I guess they are not used to it being so cold here in winter.

Hey that's a nice snowman! The kids look like they had a great time. I would love to ship you a few more tons from my yard so they could make him a little taller. Living in the northern part of the US we do get some good snows usually several feet in an average year. We've had about 3 ft so far this winter but we still have another 2 months before the chance of snow passes. Right now there's about 6 inches still out there but it's supposed to get above freezing for the next couple of days so some of that will melt. I remember back in 1978. We got about 3 feet in a week with the last storm being a blizzard with 60 mph winds and 15 inches of snow overnight. I was living in an upstairs apartment of a house at the time and when I went to leave for work the next morning and discovered the door was blocked with a 4 ft snow drift. I had to go back upstairs climb out a window onto the roof of the porch and jump into the drift to get outside. At least it was a soft landing! Another was back in 1999. I was 5 hrs from home spending the weekend with my boyfriend (now husband). We had a huge ice storm that was so bad they closed all the highways. I had to stay an extra two days. The roads were still bad when I left so a 5 hr drive home turned into an exhausting 7 hr fight to stay on the road. The farther north I drove the ice became snow and got deeper and deeper with every mile. It had snowed 17 inches at home while I was gone. Just as I went to turn into my driveway I discovered the snow had blown into a pile as high as my car window. I couldn't even get into my garage to get the shovel. I had to drive to the store to buy a shovel to dig out. That was a very long day. I've been through so many snowstorms I honestly don't know which one was actually the worst.. I do clearly remember the ones that were the most inconvenient however!

It is a very good one for their first attempt! Wow sounds like you get a lot of snow each year, I cannot believe you had to jump out of the house like that to get out!! We have not had nothing like that so far which I am pretty pleased about I do not really like the snow!!
