it is going to be 45 here in Melbourne today and i have just heard on the News how worried the people in the country are, worried about the fire situation and the fact that most of the fires that we have had have been started by firebugs, how dare these people do this to tha many people and animals in the country..this is shameless...years ago a friend of mine told me that he knew that a lot fires were actually started by fire fighters, I must be honest I did not believe him but I heard on the news yesterday that some of the recent fires were actually started deliberately by one of the volunteer fireman...what is wrong with these people, so many homes lost, and the animals that die in these things, I think these people should be put away for life....I just can't believe what some people do.

I still don't know how to believe what you wrote here. Is it true? It's too scary. God Bless All.

Hi lilaclady, Its a shame they don't get killed in the fire and they deserve to, they are selfish people and no thoughts for others. Here in the UK is a big freeze at the moment, we are getting a lot of snow and schools and transport have been closed even some flights had to be cancelled, some cars are stuck in the middle nowhere in the snow. Oh I am not sure how I would handle that as much as I hate the heat I also hate extreme cold, I guess I can only cope with the ordinary easy to cope with weather...this is why I am not good at gardening and going for walks, I hate hot, cold, windy and rain...not much left hey...

I think, Australia is perhaps the hottest point on earth, I live on the Equator in Uganda but I have frankly not experienced temperatures of that magnitude, perhaps, we are even blaming arsonists for no reason, these fires are probably sparked off by the extreme temperatures!

in heat like that (americans will not undestand because they do not use celcius) the fires can start on their own, we have a lot of them here in north america as well.

that heat is about 102 and maybe more...yes it has been found a lot of the fires have been started deliberately, they have caught one man who is a volunteer fireman he started it so his crew would be called out...i guess some volunteers would see it as getting out of a days real work in maybe a normal job they don't like or maybe they have some sort of fixation with fire....hard to know what makes some people tick...

Hi lilaclady, I guess this is the hottest part of the year in the the Southern hemisphere right now, here in Canada we are coping with snow storms. I can understand that many people are worried about fires as we sometimes experience the same situation during the summer. we also have had problems with people starting fires intentionally but it's difficult to catch them. I'm with you in that I fail to understand the mentality of such people. Blessings.

Now this makes me wonder if there is a new fire craze going on in some countries. In my country for example there have been several bush fires and just looking at the locations one can tell that they were deliberately started. Many of them have been lit along a certain section of the highway which have affected traffic in that area. One of the Agricultural Minitry's nurseries where trees for lumber are being grown was burnt a few days ago and this is located along a section of the highway. A friend of mine who has over one hundred acres of farm in fruit trees lost many adult june plum trees in December as a result of fire that he is sure was deliberately lit. Just two days ago while on his farm he he caught a man setting fire to another property. He said the man just rode up, jumped off his bycicle and attempted to light the fire but he intervened and asked him if he was crazy as there were more than one4 farms around. The man could give no ligit reason for his actions but said that he did not set my friends property afire as he knew there was a farm there and he had worked there before. Last night this friend stopped by to say hi and told me that he just passed a property ablaze on his way up to my house. Everyone keeps saying how challenging things are now and how we all have to brace for worst and here we have dumb skulls who go around seeking to make things even worst for others.

Pyromania is a mental illness. It is the uncontrollable impulse and practice of setting things on fire. Hard to believe I know but these people when caught are punished to the full extent of the law I believe.

I can't believe it eithr what these people would do for fame and glory, the firefighters by starting fires and then coming in as the hero and putting them out. It makes the honest ones have a bad name too. And the other people that just want to do it for kicks, same on you shame on all of you the firemen and others. You should be hung from the highes trees and burned alive, that is what you did to the people and animals, you burned them alive.

I think something should be done with these people also. That is a waste of resources and time and alot of people lose their life belongings. That is terrible.

It's not only in your country where fires are deliberately set... Many of the terrible fires they had last year in California were all deliberately set, don't know about it being firemen setting them though and so many homes were lost, especially the very expensive mansions celebrities live in. My thoughts too are always what happens to all the poor animals as well.

Hey lila! What is wrong with these people? Why would a person want to intentionally start a fire? I guess the volunteer firefighter has his own sick reasons for being a fireman. I get so upset to see all the destruction that a fire can do and all the people and especially the poor defenseless animals that can't out have to be hurt as it is. And to think that there actually are people who purposely want this to happen and even start the fires! There are just too many really sick people on this earth!

Maybe we should start thinking about what type of personality leads a person to choose to be a fire fighter. I'm sure some of them find the job attractive because they are obsessed with fires. If there are not any fires starting accidentally for them to fight they get antsy and start one of there own.
