OK so i know people who always have a bird names Peter, it's always a cockatiel, and it's not the same bird it was 10 years ok...or even 10 years before that. Me personally i get too atached to my amimals and wouldnt feel right resuing thier name. Each name to me represents an individual companion and freind and that cant be replaced. Therefor i cant reuse a pet name. How do you all feel about this, I know alot of people who reuse a pet name...do you reuse a name, or know people who do...what do you think about it.

No i am the same as you. once i name my pets thats its name and none of my pets after that will have that name.. but my uncle always get rotweilers and always names them rock. i guess to some people it might mean more to keep the same name but to me its more meaningful for them to each have their own

My dad always told me as a child that it was bad luck to reuse a pet's name??? Probably not, But,how confusing when discussing your pet later, of which " Peter" you are discussing??Plus I think each pet has a personality that earns them their name.

Oh. You could be right. I wrote my comment before reading yours. I've named a total of 13 pets the same and they've all had incredibly short lifespans.

I have never re-used a pet's name because I think just like people, pets are unique to us, and their names are unique to me too. Even if they have passed on for example like a hamster, I've never re-used any names. Think each name for the pet holds a special part in my life. Besides, it's quite fun to come up with different names for the pets. :)

When I was a kid, I named every lizard I had Danny. My parents used to joke that I'd marry a Danny. Maybe a Dannie, lol. On personal pets now, I do not reuse names. I try not to reuse names on foster pets, but I've fostered over 100 animals now so it does happen sometimes. I've probably had at least 3 Gingers. It's not that these pets are replaceable to me, it's just that most people rename them anyway once they're adopted so I don't worry as much about picking unique names.

I couldn't do that, even if I put a number next to the name eg.Peter III. I am one of these eccentric people who treat animals like people so I think names are too individuals to be re-used. My father had a budgerigar he named Chippy. When Chippy flew away we bought Dad a new bird and he wanted to call him Chippy too. It took ages to talk him out of it but we succeeded and that is when the name Toby came up. Sadly Toby flew away too which reminds me just how difficult it is live with my Dad! (LOL)

I have never named an animal the same name as another one that has passed. I just couldn't do that. I waite for the cat or dog or bird to show some charscteristic that will bring a name up in my mind. Sometimes it taakes a long time for this to hapen sometimes it happens rather quickly. One cat I just couldn't name so I called her precious because she was and it stuck. I get very attached to my animals and I rescued cats for 25 years before I lost my home last year. I still have several of my babies with me.

tinker - cheasapeake bay retriever
I have never used a pet's name twice. Like you, I get too attached and each one had their own personality. However, for the first time I have thought about doing that. Our dog's name is Tinker, and since we are splitting up she will be staying with him. I know it won't be long before I get myself another furry friend, and because I love this one so much, I may give her a namesake. It won't be the same breed, but I think I could do it just this once. But, I usually name them after I get them and see their personality and what name fits.

That sounds too creepy for me. I couldn't do that. Each pet is its own. And the memories that go with the pet. Seems a shame to muddy things up that way.

I am the same.I can`t have two pets (even after 10 years) with the same names.Every pet name reminds me of a certain pet and this memories will definitely come back when I name other pet the same way.Once I had a male cat named like other male cat with 14 years difference in day of birth and I didn`t felt bad because the second cat was named after a person I love really much and the first was named the same way before I even know this person but I definitely can`t name two pets the same way and the second pet to be named after the first.Happy MyLotting!

I would never reuse a name for a pet. They are all unique animals and deserve their own name. I do reuse names for street cats. They all get a name according to their color. All orange ones are some form of Ginger, all white ones are some form of white or snow etc. But thats only with street cats who I don't take care of and am to lazy to give a real name.

I don't know. I judge every "pet" differently. When I was a kid, I named my hamster "Homey." Well, Homey screwed the pooch and tried to ingest a key part of my Lego firetruck. So long, Homey. The next hamster I got was also a "Homey." No particular reason, I don't guess, other than I liked the name. All told, I ended up with Homey VIII, with the exception of one "Mulatto" before I got a dog. I've had a few dogs. For the girl dogs, I like girly sounding names, i.e. Sheena, Delilah, Palace. For guy dogs, I like naming them after boxers. I thought it was a slight touch of irony since they've all been American Staffordshire Bulls (Pit Bulls). My pits with "boxer" names: Mike (Tyson), Lennox (Lewis) and Arturo (Gatti). I also name all my goldfish the same: Sgt. Blubber.

Hi there kayla_7602! =) Good day, I would never reuse a pet name. I love my pets and i gave them names because it is one of the factors on their identification then why will i reuse it right? I will never and They couldn't be replace with another pet or something like that. With their names comes with their great attitude and sweetness, they are unique so i will respect their way of identification. :) their names:)

I have had many pets over the years but never re-used a name. I agree with you that it would feel wrong to do it. There are so many names to choose from anyway that I feel it would be easy to find a suitable and fitting one. Often an animals name will become clear due to its unique personality.

We have only reused one pet name. About ten years ago we had the greatest cutest chihuahua. She was black and fun to play with. Very active and friendly. One night she just disappeared. We dont know if she was stolen, ran away, or just was playing and got lossed. We all were upset because we had her since she was a pup and she had been with us for around 4 years. So last year when we finally got a new chihuahua added to our family i begged my mom to name her after our previous chihuahua so we could have a way to remember her. I know after ten years that sound weird but i miss her till this day. Our new chihuahua is not like her but its okay.
