...... to old to take classes and learn.A course of any kind,it does not matter, online, correspondence, college, recreational, community or work class.I had a pen pal who had got her college degree in math and had started classes to get a degree in history when she passed away. She was 83.My husband was asked by his boss to take a night class at a local high school to get accredited in his field. Both myself and my step daughter tried to encourage him to and he said that he was too old to learn.Personally I would like to start taking an online course when I can afford it. What do you think?

I would think that you're never too old to stop learning. You don't even have to be in a traditional school room to do this learning. The learning can be done from your home, or anywhere in life. It doesn't even have to cost you a lot of money either. It can even be free if you use the oppportunity of going to the library.

Yeah, it's never too old to learn anything, it's even recommended that as we grow older, we must use our brains more. This avoids Alzheimer's disease from creeping in. Plus, the busier we use our minds with, the more we exercise our thinking capabilities. One shouldn't stop learning. Good luck!

I don't think there is an age that is "too old". I'm 31 and I'm FINALLY going back to school to finish my high school after having dropped out when I was 15. I have alot of respect for people who go back to school, especially when they have good reasons for doing it, like being a good role model for their children or younger siblings, or in order to get a better job and earn more money to care for their family.

You are never too old to learn a new thing. If we stopped learning then what would be our purpose? Just a thought. Go and take your courses, enrich your mind keep it working and I am sure your mental health will be healthy as long as you always challenge your mind. Your husbands boss is cheap or doesnt want to take the chance of your hubby needed to take time or change his schedule or perhaps he worries he will leave when he has that certificate

You are never too old to learn. I personally think we should all be life long learners. I think you'd enjoy an online course. They are a bit more relaxed then the traditional forum for education, and you're doing something for you. Enjoy. Anora

For learning = as long i'm still of sound mind For classes = 65 years old i would stop as i'm thinking i'll hardly go to classes. Take the online course if you can afford and if you want it really bad. When we gets older, i think our brain tends to absorbs only the things that we are interested in it and we also tends to have a lesser interest in certain things, unlike childs and teenagers where they get really interested in all kind of things as they are still in the exploring process. For your husband, if he thinks that he is able to finish the degree than go for it for his own benefit.

i feel that you are never to old to learn. im a sophmore in college and while the majority of people in my class are my age, there are quite a few people who are older and are working towards their degrees. i really admire them and am proud to see them working towards their goal. never to old to learn!

You're never too old to take a class. If it's something that interests you, and you think you'd enjoy it--then by all means take the class! :D

People make their excuses. You are only as old as you feel. If your mind is young and vitle then you can do anything. It is when you give up that that demon comes and takes you away. Never more.

I used to go along with the belief that once I passed a certain age I would not be able to take anything in anymore in terms of new knowledge. Thankfully these thoughts are a thing of the past for me now! I guess the world has changed and the truth is, you are never too old to do anything. I'm 34 years of age and I still have an interest in studying for the rest of my days! I just love to study, I get immense enjoyment out of it. I can understand some arguments that an 83 year old studying for a degree is pointless! However, the sense of achievement that this inividual receives is priceless! It's everyone's choice to study and do a course no matter what age they are and good luck to them. You put your mind to something, you can really do it. Good luck with your future studies. Andrew

You are never to young or too old to learn. Even my 68 year old grandmother took a class in her local college. She wanted to learn about something and did it. I thought the topic was a little odd until I heard her talking to my grandfather. She was taking Debate.

I don't think you are ever too old to learn. I learn something new every day, and enjoy it. People who go back to school at an late age is doing something great, it shows that your never too old to accomplish something you set your mind too. It's great when these people do it. It sets examples for the younger children to look up and admire.

Learning has no age barriers. It does not matter ow old you are as long as you are willing to learn, there is no problem. I have students from the past, that is a lot more older than me. And i get intimidated at times because i think they have more experience than i do. But since i have the confidence, i said, hey i am the teacher here, heheh, although really looking so young. When i started in the academe as a College teacher, i really looked like a student. And you would not recognize me when i sit along with my students. There was this student of mine who was older than me , i think he was 36 or 40 years old, and i was 22 years old, i talked to him how come you still want to study. He said he wanted to finish his degree since he stopped when he had an opportunity to work. Imagine he was already a Manager at that time so i feel low. Because he might get bored to what i am teaching. But he said no, he is learning new things from me. So i guess in reality, you meet people of different walks of life still studying to finish a degree even if they are already doing fine at work. They don't stop to learn, and i think this is important.

What makes him think he's "too old"? Is it because they asked him to the high school or something? Seriously, if his boss asked him to take the class and other people are taking this class, why would he be TOO OLD?

Yeah, so long as your mind is still working, then you're never too old to learn new things. I remember reading a story a while back about a 90 year old woman who got her degree in psychology because she'd always wanted a degree and had gone her entire life without one.

What has age got to do with learning? We continually are learning new things all the time. We just aren't organized about it. We are never too old to learn. We are never too old to take classes. Taking new classes will help to keep our brains active and possibly keep that alhimerzers at bay. When we are learning new things it helps to regenerate our brain cells. I think it also helps to keep us young at heart. I do think that as we have spent time away from studying or learning it is harder to get back into the grove of being a student and studying. I believe that your husband is fearful that he might fail and doesn't want to admit it. I wouldn't want to admit it either. If his boss is asking him to take a course it could possible be for a better position or even a raise. In todays economy he better take the course so his boss knows he is serious about his job because if there are any layoff your husband could be on the list and his taking this course could remove him from it..

I think it's kind of a personal preference as well as all on you to gather up enough motivation to want to seriously dedicate to learning from the classes and all that good stuff. I think that you're never to old to take classes or anything for that matter. I've always thought that you have to keep learning because no matter how smart you are you'll never know it all. I think that you should go for the online course because why not? You will probably learn some cool new stuff and it will also give you something to do. Good luck.

Personally I think that there is no age limit to learning. If you are in a position to continue your learning, I encourage it. There is a saying that you might want to mention to your husband: Knowledge is POWER. You can never know too much and it is my beliefe that lack of knowledge breeds ignorance. I hope that your husband does continue to better his career because the only thing that he has to loose is a little time. I think it would be well worth it in the end.

I don't think you can put an age limit on learning. I think there are enough limits on learning such as time and money. Those are quite enough, mind you. Before I had a family I took as many classes as I possibly could. Even now I wish I could take just simple classes such as knitting just to have a specific time to relax and maybe make friends in the process. I say do it!

You are never too old to learn..Every day of our life is a learning process. When it comes to attending school at an older age, if we are not interested, it will not work..not that we cant, but if we arent interested, we do not concentrate as well as perhaps our patience is thinner.. I met a really interesting lady one time while in the hospital. She was 78 years of age and attending a local university and studying for an english degree. She said she went back to school in her 60s and received her high school diploma and was determined before she left this world that she would also have a university degree. She had no intention of doing anything with it, other than to satisfy herself and feel good about herself..Well done for her!! Yes we can still learn no matter how old we are..we just have to want to do it and be positive about it
