Cholesterol levels vary, and those who have lower cholesterol levels have lower risk of developing heart diseases, while those who have high levels have the higher risk of developing coronary heart diseases. I have been told that the more you go old, the more you are at risk of developing high cholesterol levels, which is more common in men younger than 55 years and women older than 55 years. However, with today's lifestyles (diet, sedentary living), more younger population are developing high-cholesterol levels even in their early 20s. One person I know who is 23 years old, in a good shape, very active and who's living a healthy life, said that his cholesterol level is very high which is very alarming for he's at risk of heart problems. What can you suggest to lower down the cholesterol level?

I think you will have to check your lipid profile about the HDL AND LDL.Th eformer is the good cholestrol and the latter is the bad one. There is something about the ratio too.HDL apparently increases with walking and is good for health .I have also seen this happen. My husband's HDL was low and it has increased with walking.

I'm 31 years old and I never check it with my Doctor about my cholesterol. But my blood pressure always in between of 110/80 and 120/80. I admit that I weighed 150lbs which is not normal with my height of 5'4". But I'm planning to have a general check up with my Doctor because we all know that at age of 20 our cholesterol level is naturally begin to rise and sometimes I'm worrying about my health even though I know in myself that I'm physically healthy. But for me to maintain my health, I always increase my activity and get some exercise 3x a week, I play badminton regularly that the main health benefit is reduction of bad cholesterol and increase of good cholesterol. Another particular health benefit of playing regular badminton is protection from heart disease, especially heart attacks. The best way to avoid high cholesterol level is to maintain good diet and most important a regular exercise will keeps you feeling well, strong, motivated, enthusiastic and young. It helps to ward off depression, anxiety, stress and increase self-esteem. It also helps in enjoying a better sleep in the night, thereby minimizing the incidence of pre-existing illnesses getting aggravated due to lack of sleep.

Unfortunately, with the busy schedule that I have nowadays, I hardly had time for any physical activities..I'll try to spend sometime on exercising in my busy shcedule.. thanks a lot! happy mylotting!

AVOID SUGAR! I dropped my numbers big time by doing that. But in reality the role of cholsterol is really questional as many have had heart attcks with normal numbers. http://www.coastalpost.com/08/04/15.html Eat nautual UNPROCESSED foods, nothing hyrogenated, eat natural oils.

Hi I am 30+, I am taking care myself to avoid cholesterol foods, firstly the oily foods. Well you have asked a useful question that I would like to give answer for that from my reading as follows. Did you know that the dietary cholesterol can still raise your blood cholesterol level? The answer is yes, although it is not that high in saturated fat Avoid foods that come from animals. These types of foods are the richest in saturated fat and they are not recommended for high daily intake. You can supplement your diet with the help of lecithin. This is helpful and it contains phosphatidyl choline which is able to increase the solubility of the cholesterol in your body and allows the fatty deposits in your bloodstream to break down. Your diet should be absolutely free from oily foods, which only contain minimal amounts of fatty acid. Choose foods that are rich in omega-3 and omega-6. This is important in normalizing your blood cholesterol level and can help you maintain good health. Increasing your dietary fiber can be very helpful because it can neutralize the excess bile acids in the bowel. Eat fiber rich foods instead of greasy foods. Observing this diet is a must because your cholesterol is something you should maintain and watch out for in order to stay healthy, fit, and free from heart disease. Lowering cholesterol can be observed and achieved by choosing the foods you eat. If more you need and you confirm that you have higher cholesterol level then immediately consult a physician. Thanks, happy lotting. Have a good day.

I have high cholestrol. Unfortunately it is a trait that myparens passed on to me. I avoid saturated fats in my diet. I excercise regularly and I take Crestor daily. One of the diet changes that made a big difference was eating Cheerios or Oatmal daily. I really does lower your cholsterol level by about 7-10 points.

I get plenty of exercise and i watch my diet. I also supplement with coq10, and a good omega 3 fish oil. The doctors tried to put me on cholesterol medicine, but i refused and started reading up on it, and i brought it down my self, i always go the natural route if i can, before i would take a prescription medicine. I also lowered my blood pressure this way. That is two things that i have done so far to keep off prescriptions. I think that i feel better for it.

Yeah, Ive heard about coq10 and omega 3 from fish oil. I also agree with you with regards to starting medications. My fiend, who's only 29 years old, said that she had high cholesterol and her doctor told her that he will not prescribe any meds for her because she's too young. All she has to do is to keep her cholesterol levels down by eating the right kinds of food and to exercise regularly. Thanks fo sharing!

my dad had that problem a few months ago and that had me really scared. what we did was basically to limit his diet. we had him more fish, more vegetables and more fruits. although we did allow him to eat a little bit of pork once in a while so that he would not feel that deprived. depriving oneself could even be more dangerous as you will be more prone to cheating on your diet. we also limited his intake of carbs which actually worked well for him. I agree with you regarding the increasing number of 20somethings have high cholesterol level. I have two co-workers suffering from that right now. and it is a bit scary but I guess it is up to us to do something about it. we need to be more active and less sedentary. we need to eat healthier and try to stay away from the fast foods.

Okay, I'll try to discipline myself on eating healthy food like vegetables and fruits, and I'll try to avoid pork (which is on my usual meal) or at least try to lessen my intake of fatty foods. thanks a lot!

I have high cholesterol and I am on medication for mines. I try to watch what I eat but last time I went in for a check up my cholesterol is still going up. I have tried being more active and have gotten where I am afraid to eat anything. I have no medical benefits now because I was laid off from my job. I am applying for prescription assistance because the cholesterol medicine I am on is very expensive.

He has to cut down fat containing food substances like oils, cheese butter etc and must walk for atleast two three hours a day. He must take fresh vegetable and fruit salad and must not eat fast food stuff. then his cholestrol levels will automatically come down. He must be away from junk food in all ways.

Exercise is the best way to prevent and to lower cholesterol levels. Most of the harm coming from high cholesterol is clogging of the arteries. Enough and constant exercise that is integrated in one's lifestyle helps to unclog those arteries - the cardio exercise pumps blood into our systems and cleans up all the channels. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

In order to lower your cholesterol level you must eat a healthy and balanced diet. You also have to exercise and lose weight. In some cases there may be a need to take medicines prescribed by your doctor. While each of these works, some people have more success with one than another. Many need a combination of approaches. No matter what your age or the state of your health, you can reduce your risks of serious problems by controlling your cholesterol and it's not as hard as you think. I am lucky enough because I don't have problems with my cholesterol level. I am still young maybe I still could not say but I wish not to have one until I grow old. And I wish my husband will lose his high cholesterol level.
